There is nothing cluttered about everything in my car. It is all neatly in a milkcrate in the trunk. Except for the kids's books. But even those are neatly in between the car seats (when DD isn't in the car). DS keeps them neat if it is just him. If it is both of them, he decides to follow her example out of making a mess. I am so impressed. I am always embarrassed by the state of my car. It is a disaster area. Right now I have: At least 6 coats (2 from each kid) Unknown number of DD's socks 2 pair DD shoes 1 or 2 of DD's backpacks Probably at least a dozen toys Gum Inhaler Bug bite spray Lots of papers, school stuff, receipts, many which should be trash And all the typical glove box stuff The trunk is slightly more organized and useful: An emergency survival kit Jumper cables Emergency light Umbrella Container of formula Large diaper bag with all baby stuff A case of water Snow brush Cat liter Stroller Sun screen Baby Bjorn Climbing gear - shoes & harness Spare shoes and socks for me For the most part the seating area is a whole mess of stuff left by the kids and the trunk is all the stuff I carry just in case it is needed. And you drive a Civic ? (Am I remembering that right?). How do you have room for ..... well anything?

I don't keep much in the car because of the fuel economy issue, although right now I am toting around some plastic shelving until I have the strength to tote it out up several sets of stairs.
Usually I keep things like one roll of paper towels, one umbrella, and the small plastic shovel which allows me to shovel my car out if needed.

I read that twice as "at least 6 GOATS".

You literally cannot see the floor of the car most of the time except for the driver's seat. The trunk I don't mind because I feel like everything has a purpose, but the rest is awful. Sometimes the floor of the back seat is piled so high it is basically level with the seat. I clean it out every few weeks, but it seems to take 2 days to get back to disaster. I need to really start getting on the kids about taking out what they bring in, but you can see some of the time DD doesn't even come back with her shoes on, so we have a lot of work to do.

Its interesting reading the lists. So much of it seems to depend on lifestyle. Do you currently have kids living with you, a job that requires fieldwork, dogs?
I'm not super neat, but when things pile up briefly its usually things for drop off/consignment. The backseat used as a garbage area though, grosses me out.
My car is fairly neat because I don't have much need of extra stuff. I carry a smaller than average purse as well. It is the auxiliary tote bag that holds extra stuff when needed.

Oops! How could I forget to mention the jumper cables, & my small tool box?
The back seat CAN get messy. The kids prefer to sit in back (even my college kid) and snack.

Right now in the trunk I have a case of water that needs to go in the house and binders that need to go to work. There's also reusable shopping bags, an emergency kit and the dash holder thing for the Garmin. The backseat has the tire pressure gauge, flashlight and two CD cases. Center console has phone charger, some more cds and some papers that could be thrown out. Some aren't even mine like the receipt where my brother renewed his concealed carry permit. Glove box has a pen, scissors and napkins and the last rental car receipt.
My brother couldn't do this list for either one of his vehicles. They are full of tools, clothes, trash and other assorted crap like a case of transmission fluid.

Not much. A jug of windshield washer fluid on floor of back seat, a snow brush/windshield scraper, a toolbox in the trunk, box of kleenex, pair of sunglasses, garage door opener, a couple of spare Febreeze car air freshener thingies, and 2 or 3 sheets of paper with driving directions/maps that I printed off of the computer/Google - for when I was driving to a district I wasn't familiar with so I could find the house easily.

Hmm. There's a scraper in the door pocket along with a pair of leather gloves. Sunglasses are in the center console and a bottle of water and the car's manual in the center storage pop-up. There's an umbrella on the floor of the back seat. Reusable shopping bags are in the trunk. I can't think of anything else that's in there. ETA: There's an emergency flashlight in the trunk, too.

I have:
Car seat for great niece (I should take it out as she hasn't been in it in months now) Reusable grocery bags Sunglasses Kleenex Flashlight Umbrella Emergency tool kit and jumper cables (I have never needed the jumper cables myself but they have helped others) I do put a shovel in the car in the winter Snow and ice scraper Blankets
I've always lived where it snows and gets cold. I don't have kids. During tax season, I carry a change of clothes so if weather gets really bad I can stay in town.

Almost nothing.
Glove box and console - Glasses Owner's Manual Tire pressure gauge
Passenger compartment - Ice scraper Towel
Trunk - Reusable grocery bags
Is it just me or does it seem like women in general keep more junk in their trunk (so to speak) than men do?

In my car trunk right now: my golf clubs, my son's golf clubs, 2 pairs of golf shoes, a baseball glove, a pair of baseball spikes, jumper cables, and I think a couple camping chairs and tons of miscellaneous junk.
In the cabin I have 2 kids carseats, umbrella, sunglasses, inhaler, a couple pens, tons of napkins, no electronics or anything else valuable to mention.
Total value: maybe $1000

My car is less than a year old, so not much in it...
Interior: Car manual and insurance papers in the glove box. Tissue holder that attaches to the sun visor thingy. Map in pocket behind front seat. Loose change in cup holder. Umbrella under seat. Might be some hand sanitizer, coupons, and gum in front seat storage compartment.
TRUNK: Some reusable shopping bags for those stores that make you pay for bags.
