This looks like a gross overreaction by the officer. He TOLD the man "let me see your license", so the man turned toward his car to get his license and the officer shot him.

Shoot, DS isn't black and I still tell him if he is stopped, keep his hands on the wheel at all times. At night put light on, put window down, and keep hands on wheel.

If you need to reach into your back pocket (or glove compartment/purse/etc.) for your license or registration, you need to tell them that. But it is scary that cops are so trigger happy that they feel threatened. I'm glad that the video caught it all.....hopefully, the guy will sue and a couple lawsuits will send the cops back for more training. |

I was told that before you do anything around the police, that you let them know first.
For instance, if during a traffic stop the cop asks for my registration, I would tell him first that its in the glove compartment before just leaning over and opening it.
What if this person had been going for a gun? Do we expect the officers to wait to be shot first before taking action?  |

Considering the number of stories where cops have been shot (some point blank) after pulling someone over, I can understand why...too many scum bags in the world for any cop to really feel safe (or any citizen for that matter). |

Did the officer over-react here? Absolutely. But being a civilian, you also have to think before just reaching out for your ID.

The officer said "SHOW ME your license". He did what ANYBODY would have done which was to turn and try to get his licence. And, Lassie, they fired him sooooo I think even they recognize that the cop was wrong.
