Hopefully the school district and the busing company gets it right from now on.

Well, that's one bus driver out of a job and rightfully so. What an idiot.
Kids make mistakes, it's up to adults to look out for them. That is especially true of school employees.

that should not happen. There should be a policy in place that a child that age can only be left off the bus if an approved care taker is present. If that policy is not in place, shame on the school and they need to implement that policy ASAP. If the policy is in place, the driver needs to be fired ASAP.

What gets me is the report that the mother of one of the girls said that when she went to the school to report the girls missing that there was no sense of urgency by those educators in charge..
That the driver wouldn't call the school or at least his superiors back at where ever the Bus Co office was to report the situation, ask for directions of.....who today , especially a adult..does not have a phone ..this person should not have the responsibility of these kids ...A two year old..seven year old ...They are just so lucky that this turned out as it did..I know the suger Land area..affluent and all but weirdos are everywhere...

Sounds to me like a bus driver needs to be fired for gross stupidity. Thankfully, the man the girls asked for help was a good, caring soul. It could have been otherwise. That makes me shudder.
Hopefully, this is a wake-up call to that school district. All bus drivers should be required to attend a training session that lets them know what their responsibilities are and what they're to do in the case of something like this. It's shocking that anyone wouldn't know to take the girls back to the school but, apparently, there are those out there without a lick o' sense. It also sounds like some of the school staff needs a swift kick to the back end. When someone says their child is missing that IS a big deal and the staff should be scurrying!

It has now come out that the same driver who kicked the girls off the bus did the same thing a few days later to another small child. He is still driving for the district.
The mom in the story went before the school board last night. There is a video going around of it and she was amazing. I'm sure she's getting a lot of flack for standing up to the district and the superintendent that everyone loves, but good for her. It's come out through the whole process that this has happened almost every year for at least 5 years!

The bus driver definitely erred by kicking them off the bus. He should have called it in immediately.
But when my son started riding the bus, I had him memorize the bus number. We also drove the route his bus would take. I taught him to watch for landmarks so he know when his stop was getting close. Then he walked home.
The only time we ever had an issue was when he missed the bus. The school called me and placed him on a different bus that went close to our neighborhood. The busdriver dropped him at the door.
Before school starts for the year, the parents fill out a card on how the child gets home (walk, pick up or bus). If they take the bus, the bus number is on there. They make "ID tags" out of them and the kids wear them the first couple weeks of school. They have signs up in the gym and the kids all line up there. Then when the bus gets there, a teacher checks all the tags as the kids are getting on the bus. Sounds like this district needs to try something similar.
