It's nice to have the option. One person who used the service was getting their items stolen off the porch. I don't know why the groceries were left on the porch. because nobody was home when they were delivered? The groceries were left at an 4 unit apartment complex. Where they were left, what time, and the physical state of the person ordering them is unknown.

I order almost all of my non-perishable items from Walmart.com. Free shipping and it's fairly quick. In Angel's case, I think having all groceries delivered is a great idea! For me personally, I'd worry about the cold items. How do you know whomever is packing your order is doing it in a timely manner and items aren't left out at room temperature? Or, do they pack perishables in a cooler of some sort? Plus, you'd have to be home during their delivery window to put things in the fridge or freezer right away. IDK - it's a nice option for those who truly need it, but for me, I'll stick to buying my own perishable items and produce for now. Mine gets delivered in a refrigerator truck. I don't think deliver if you aren't home, that is why you pick a window. But they have 6-8 pm, which works great for me. I also shop sales. I actually find it easier because if I find something in the ad I want, then I just have to find it online. So I order by using the previous 2-3 orders and then quickly flipping through the ad to see if anything is on sale I might want. It still costs me more than shopping several stores or even just sticking to Walmart. Kroger is slightly more expensive. But at this point in my life I have more money than time (although don't have much of either), so it is totally worth it.

Thanks to all who responded to my question. Since I live in a rural area, I was not sure if home delivery of groceries would be different, or if such a service would be used more in a more urban area. I know that since this is a financial board, the costs would be taken into consideration, and I was wondering if some thought that the extra cost outweighed the convenience. Most of my research was about the pros, but I knew you guys could come through for me with the cons. Thanks again, it has been an interesting discussion.

to answer the OP - if Wegman's offered delivery I would be all over that....if I need something and Wegman's has it, I buy it there. I've bought makeup, skincare, deodorant, paper towels, and school supplies in addition to food. I'm all about convenience. I bought a Nordicware roasting pan and a salt grinder from there recently. Grocery shopping is kind of a PIA with the traffic and crowds. That being said sometimes I don't have a big list and I think some places have a minimum order. This time of the year I'm traveling nearly every weekend and I'm still juggling chiropractor/physical therapy appointments so I'm not buying many groceries.

I would use on-line ordering and delivery if I wanted to stay away from people it's good to go out and pick up myself However at the right times of course to avoid the crowds.

Many years ago I worked for a company that sold groceries in bulk to local families. You had to pay a $600 membership fee OR buy a freezer from them (financed by Beneficial Finance). We would then send out a "food economist" to help you select and order 6 months worth of groceries along with a side of beef, pork loins and chickens, all cut the way you wanted.
When delivered, the dry and canned goods would be stocked according to your directions and the frozen food placed in the freezer.
Since it was just the two of us back then I was able to order a 1/4 side of beef, have it cut according to my wishes and keep it in the freezers at work.
Today, I have ordered from Amazon when WMT or Sams Club has an argument with a vendor and decides not to carry what I want. To do that on a regular basis might be easy, but not sure I would do much more than I have with Amazon.
