Just a little something you might want to keep in mind and also keep an eye on as it will likely affect many areas of the markets if there was much damage.

They had snow in South Dakota today......... How much of Canada's wheat crop would still be in the fields at this point? Most would have been winter wheat, and even this year's plantings should have been harvested by now.

It would all depend on lots of things but mainly on the weather we have had this spring/summer. Many crops are behind due to a late spring and cooler summer.

I think the Corn crop would be allright but the Beans are a different story. Keep a close eye on them. If you have Nerves of Steel and money to burn, you might look at Nov or Jan, contracts to go long on if we get a good early freeze in the Mid-West. Anymore, I leave this kind of stuff to the young guys that would have more time to make up their losses if they go broke. LOL

I've never messed with it, but what happens with the crops can effect so many other things now....like ethanol, food prices, clothing prices (cotton), etc. So just something to keep an eye and see how it could play out.

I live in western Canada where much of the agricultural crops are grown (wheat, canola, rye, corn, barley, etc etc).
The snowfall and below-normal temps in my area were brief and most crops received only minor frost damage overall. It wasn't really cold enough to do any major damage to them. The temperatures are back to normal or better now. Even today it was in the low 70's and going to be close to 80 tomorrow.
Harvesting is continuing on schedule for the majority of crops.

USDA reports 171.7 bushels an acre 2014. Weather looks good for the next seven days . A new record.
a stronger dollar is not going to help either .

Yes stronger dollar puts stress on the entire commodity price complex; an issue which is currently being exacerbated by the Energy Boom going on in the U.S. ; which has been contributing to the Glut of Oil & Nat. Gas; which has oil pricing in Contango; which is not good for energy companies.
Although, Contango if it last long enough will be a great benefit to anyone who owns a car.
Not that lower pump prices will let you buy more gas (you could), but lower pump prices will let you save a bundle on your 5 gallons; which then you can use to maybe buy 1 or 2 more things at the grocery store where the prices that the FED says don't matter have gone waaaaaaaay up..
Although that party won't last long, because a stronger dollar will slam that door but damn fast.
Back Under Our rock We shall now go.

And there was an article in my local paper today...the cotton farmers are crying! Due to better than expected/predicted crops last year and this year, there is a surplus at present that has driven the price down. They were saying that most who planted cotton are going to be in the loss column....won't even break even on their crops.
