Apparently I don't eat enough. I'm on a "better health" kick again and I've started eating better foods and using a food diary for the first time ever. I'm shocked to see that my caloric intake is too low. I thought maybe it was because of the changes in food, but I calculated what a typical day's meals were before I made the changes and it was too low also. Maybe at some point I ate enough, but I haven't done it regularly in a long time. I've been using the food diary on My Fitness Pal and I thought at first that their calculations for my needed calories must be way off. After poking around in other places, I've learned that it's not out of the ballpark; I get enough calories for a sedentry lifestyle, but not enough for the kind of work I do. I knew my diet was bad because I didn't eat a lot of vegetables and fruit, but it never occurred to me that I didn't eat enough, period. Between not getting enough fuel and not sleeping well, it's no wonder I never have any energy. I thought it was mostly because of my sleep problems. I don't want to lose weight, I just want to be healthier. All of this started because I want my body to look more toned. If I have any muscles, you sure can't see them...... maybe my body has been "eating" them to keep going I'd planned to start an exercise program (besides my yoga practice), but I'm thinking I should probably get the food figured out first so I don't create an even bigger calorie deficit. Not only do I need to keep eating healthier foods, I need more calories. I have to figure out how to do that. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Everything you listed is a check except for avocado. Don't laugh, but I've never tasted avocado. I didn't eat eggs or nuts, drink milk or use olive oil for cooking, but lately I have been doing all of that. I feel ridiculous talking about all the things I should've/could've been eating and wasn't. I haven't been eating a variety of nuts. Only walnuts. I'll check into nuts as a snack, maybe? The only good thing I can say is that I definitely ate better food when I was also feeding my kids.

Almonds are incredibly good for you...and your heart. I buy the unsalted ones that have been roasted. IIRC, 15 of them is the daily amount.

I bought some whole ones to munch on a while back. They were so hard, I thought I might break a tooth biting them. Maybe I bought the wrong kind? I've never bought any more because it's stuck in my head that they're too hard.

Pink, are they already roasted? Try buying the raw almonds and roasting them yourself. You can roast and season them your way, and by doing it yourself, you can roast them to a more well-done (and easier to eat) stage than the ready-to-eat ones.

But obviously not crunchy like lettuce.

NancysSummerSip, I don't know what I bought lol. I've been snacking on mixed nuts lately. The almonds in there aren't so hard. I've never tasted pistachios either. Chocolate Lover, avocado just doesn't look like something I want to eat. I sound like a kid, don't I? I guess I'm doing ok. I adjusted and started snacking on things like the nuts, almond butter and Greek yogurt. I'm exercising and not losing weight, so that's good. I'm in an appropriate weight range now and if I get any smaller, I'll be skinny. I don't want that. People call me skinny now and I don't like it! Thanks for the advice.

I make up my own nut mix for after exercise. I'm on myfitnesspal.com; and unfortunately, I am over indulging. Chips and snacks. I go back and forth on weight. If I drop too much, then I will have to buy new clothes. I know, not a bad thing but I don't need to spend on clothes. I am grateful for having ample food to eat and a wonderful array of choices.
