I am watching CNN..I have just brought up to date on Libya thread, listened to a young woman asking for USA to stop the killing, she lost a 27 year old cousin who was killed in th uprising as he was fighting, demonstrating..i do feel for the people but why us, again.
Europe is right across the seas, France, Germany, Italy , smaller European countries, some with long years in the area, more then we have. There are Arab country's with forces, the Saudis, the Egyptians, Morocco,,yet again, it's us they call on. France has planes That are close, Italy too, France has a Air Craft Carrier, UK too, but again, it's us they call on. We go and we are invaders, we stay away, they accuse us of allowing murder.
We have 1800 Marines on the assault carrier..even in good times, it would be a military incursone..there will most likely be some casualties..some family to be notified.
Let the others get off their ass ..and if not , call them out by name publicly. Here I will start, the ones with a place at the table, UK, France, Italy , Germany, Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia at least..how about Turkey, they want to play with the big boys, they are also of the faith..I left Ireland , Greece out of it, they are broke but the rest..pussies.

I agree with you too Dezi. They love/hate us. But then we love/hate us too, so they probably get confused.

Great proposal Germany. You going to do it unilaterally or were you just running it up the flagpole?

Seems like since the marines landed on the shores of Tripoli we have been the ones who cleaned up the mess. Since WW-1 to today there are in Europe about 1.4 million graves of American solders that died cleaning up the mess that France, Briton, Belgum and other countries would not do themselves. Not to mention those in the pacific, Korea etc. Seems to me it is time we draw the line and say now it is your turn. But you know danged well we wont.

Yep and they are having so much trouble finding some places to cut to, lick we will be left behind. Example , the Chinese unveiled a new Jet , suppose to be a stealth plane, 5th generation type. We are already building ours.F-35, cost, $90 million, may go to $120 mill, each...we already have the F-35, stopped at a bit over 120 of them they were even more expensive and so advanced won't sell to any one else..all the secrets, even to our top allies. Now the Chinese show they MAY have one, they work with Russia..but they have to spend $ to build em..I know they have money , ours, but still, lots of people, lots of problems too.

She should have asked the Israeli's to help them. They would get the job done. Efficiently, and fast. Why not them? They are close by. They have an interest in Democracy beng established. But I guess we all know why they would not be asked to help.......

I know they have money , ours,..... Considering we owe China close to a trillion dollars now, I'd say it's us that has their money.

Actually we have our money that we spent to buy chinese goods and that China then turns around and uses to buy US Treasury Bonds. We are caught up in a deadly embrace.
But back to the question at hand, we should no longer be the worlds police force, first we can't actually afford it, second it doesn't help our interests, people still hate us, so lets quit intervening, third this should be left up to the European Union it is in there back yard, did I mention we can't afford it?

Provided we can keep paying our bills, and Big Ben quits devaluing the dollar through QE, they might actually be worth the paper they're printed on. if they really want those planes built in #'s , they would have to cash in some of that paper ..mmmm, that is not good.mmmm hoo boy...are we really in big trouble here? I believe you're starting to understand what I mean when I say "we can't afford it."

China doesn't have to spend dollars to build domestic aircraft, it would pay its workers in yuan's, China also has quite a lot of natural resources so probably doesn't need to import things like rare earth metals or other exotic parts for high tech planes.
And don't forget because of Americas short sited immigration policy we are losing our on a lot of foreign phd's
And actually China can't convert our dollars back into Yuan's that would bring there whole monetary policy to its knees, if it where to start to sale dollars that would cause the currency to rise and kill there exports.

I heard something good while at the SS office today. A lady had to get her daughter a social security card before she could take drivers ed to prove she was a citizen. Good deal here in Texas, that should help down here. By the way, they built a new one here, have something like 30 people processing with a numbering system. It was efficient, we had to wait about an hour but all went smoothly, there is one agency that is working. Anyway back to this. The Libya opposition wants us to bomb Daffi's bunker but not put our troops on their soil. We have permission to get him, then git! I heard a suggestion the other day...If the opposition can form a provisional government, that is probably harder the it sounds, you get all these groups in play, then gaddafi's recognition can be taken away from him by nations, the UN, transferred tot the provisional, and then aid and possible a call such as you posted granted IF the UN gives the go ahead and that takes a vote and no veto. To expect say Obama to call up the Joint chiefs and ask "You got a plane with a big bomb somewhere, a real big one, ready to go to Libya? Great , ok, there's this house/fort/bunker, needs to be dropped on there, in fact to be, sure drop a few. How many is a few? A few for gods sake , do I have to do everything here, want me to fly the damn thing too, just go." That's not going to happen.

Not disagreeing that the US doesn't spend too much on military but some have said Russia and China both do not fully report their defense spendings. This would alter these percentages but I'm too lazy right now to find reports by how much it's believed reported amounts to be under reported. I guess this low spending by China means they really do pay their 2.3 million army peanuts [/size]

I'm guessing that the auditing done by the GAO is largely accurate but wouldn't be overly surprised if the numbers weren't accurate.
