I wouldn't classify listening to music as a hobby - it's more of a distraction or background noise while doing something else. I don't just sit and & listen to music.
I either have it playing on the radio while driving, or as background noise when doing something else.
For instance, I paint - as in art. If I'm working on a piece, I often have CD's playing in the background as I'm working.
My hobbies are crocheting, sewing and photography, among others - music is not on the "hobby" list.

I sit and listen to music especially when I am going through something emotional. After my mom passed away I sat and listened to lots of songs that had meaning and/or fit what I was feeling at the time. Music isn't just background for me. I truly enjoy just sitting and listening to it.

Be careful about hobbies costing money.
My hobby was personal finance for a long time, and then this board. I've taken up gardening because I feel that it improves my house and it's work that we should do anyway. I have had to keep myself on a strict budget, because it is very easy to spend lots of money on it.
The criteria for it being a hobby would be:
1) you enjoy it 2) you spend lots of time (almost all your free time) doing it or at least thinking about it
IMO
