Last weekend and this week got a bit done: - Cleaned the house and did a few deep cleaning tasks. Finished laundry and ironing
- Made more chicken cacciatore with enough for dinner during the week
- Gathered walnuts, shelled and stored them.
- Picked some apples out back for pies
- Groomed my horse
- Did some deals/shopping at Tops and WM and brought back empties.
- Stopped a the vet to get medicine for our cat.
- Did the books at church
- Enjoyed my great-nieces baptism followed by the Bills game with the extended family on Sunday.
- DH and I made homemade pizza for dinner Sunday night.
- Stopped at Kohl's on Monday with a $10 coupon and got a few Christmas gifts for DH and DS.
- Rode my horse last night....it was about 60 degrees. Probably the last outdoor ride until spring. She's getting her winter coat so don't want to ride her hard and get her wet....takes too long to get her dry.
- Ran a load of laundry last night just to keep up

I finally had my MRI done yesterday afternoon. 1.5 tablets of Xanax made it bearable, the good news is it's over. I should get the results sometime today. Like I don't already know: degenerative cervical disk disease, narrowing of cervical vertebrae at C8 causing numbness and tingling in fingers.
Getting old is such fun, but it certainly beats the alternative!!!

sorry for your losses, damnnotagain. woke up this morning on the NCL Pearl in sunny Miami. spent a few hours at the airport waiting on my delayed flight. got home about an hour ago, just waiting on a washer load that needs to hang overnight before I can go pass out for the night. this weekend, I'll be heading south to start looking at houses with my realtor. this will be the first trip to do so since I closed on my place. I can't wait!

<chiver goes back to double-check the PM thread> the one on the lake, yes? yup, that's on the list. what I like about this realtor I'll be working with now is that I sent her 3 that I want to see this coming weekend, and answered her questions about what I'm looking for. I held back in giving her a big list, and the listings she sent me while I was away this past weekend included another 3 that I was already eyeing. I am pretty confident that we're on the same page, which is a very good thing!

I went on a special event with a group I am in to the newly redone Heritage Center. -12F is nothing, right? We noticed a few things to gripe about. Two mislabels on displays and the written narrative is too low in the windows making it hard to read. I know the cold has a lot to do with it but we tired easily. The main hallways were toasty warm. The display areas chilly. Lunch at a favored restaurant. Then I picked up the mail. I am so disappointed I don't know what to do going forward. It's a legal dispute about some property. I am at the point of diminishing returns to put more money into attorney fees. Dinner tonight for a rellie moving away.

what I've done today, 11/15/14:
1. slept in until 11 am. 2. called off work because of sore throat and fever. 3. took 2 bags of garbage out, and of course, without a coat. 4. cleaned both litter pans. 5. fed and watered all three cats. 6. filled 5 water bottles

Ate a pizza and contemplated going for a walk. I don't think it's going to happen. On the plus side I'm also too lazy to go to the freezer and finish off the ice cream.

I started quilting another Quilt of Valor this afternoon. We had chili from the freezer stockpile for dinner, and now I have the oven doing it's self cleaning cycle along with the dishwasher running.
The weather people really missed this forecast for today, so only a trace of wet snow, and the driveways, sidewalks and street were warm enough to melt it.

spent the last two days looking at probably 15 houses with my realtor, in a car that is going to the shop as soon as I get to work tomorrow (the shop is around the corner) for things that popped up while I was on vacation - a headlight and a taillight out, brakes that over the weekend managed to score one rotor deeply enough that I can see it across the driveway, and what my former mechanic BIL seems to think is a wheel bearing issue in the front passenger tire......oh, and I got pulled over as soon as I crossed over into the little podunk town where I'm living now due to the lights being out. I'm completely and totally wiped out, and just waiting for my laundry to be done in the washer so I can go to bed. will update about the house listings tomorrow. I was surprised by a lot of it.....the ones I thought I'd love are pretty much off my list now, and I have 2 listings I'm going to be watching for a few weeks b/c they are a little overpriced for what they are but I could see myself living in either. both of them are very easy access to the highway, and pretty close to the beach. woot!

okay....some updates on the house hunt, now that I've had some time to decompress. starting with the one I *had to* get into, and some others that were high up there too - that are at best barely still on my radar. all in all, it was actually a pretty productive weekend. I'm going to post this listing straight out b/c I'm pretty sure that I will not be buying this lake house (sorry, BG....I know it was your favorite). what you can't tell from the listing pictures is that the lake below is not really one you'd swim in. the hill in the back has multiple levels of retaining walls/railroad ties to make plateaus. I don't feel comfortable with all that, and didn't really like how it was all broken out. the water heater and HVAC system were each located in very small and not very accessible closets. at the end of the day, it's still a cottage, on a sub-par (IMHO) plot of land, overlooking a lake that isn't usable in the way I would like, for a very high asking price. I still have the listing saved in Zillow, just to see what ends up happening with it. this little Cape looked awesome on paper - link and then we went to look at it. before we got out of the car, we looked around the neighborhood and said "nope!" but we went inside anyway. I kind of wish I hadn't....it smelled pretty funky. that one's off the list completely, as is that entire neighborhood. here's another overlooking water - link that was my "backup" to the first place. for many reasons, this one's just a no. there were a few I wanted to get into but couldn't, because they were under agreement (BG - including the other two listings we talked about) and a few more than my realtor found for me that definitely met my criteria. but the realization I had on Saturday that is kind of important to note here is that I think my search criteria is going to narrow a bit from here on out. we ended Saturday with a small cottage, about a football field's distance from a salty estuary and a half mile from the ocean. the friend that came with me this weekend said that I lit up the most when we walked up to that little cottage. I objectively weighed the pros/cons of the other listings, as I did with this one*, but that I didn't light up about any of them really....and he was right. *this cottage is overpriced for what it is. it's one of the two I mentioned last night that I'll be watching. the three of us (realtor, my friend and myself) were standing in the kitchen already mentally working out the addition I'd want to put on, to put livable bedrooms with closets on the 2nd floor and reclaim the space from the two shoebox bedrooms, enlarging the existing kitchen. the other houses on the street looked to have all started out as small cottages like this one, so it's totally doable with time and $. I could move into the place as-is, with my bed in one of the bedrooms, and the rest of the set in the other. it's tiny.....but the location is perfect. knowing my potential neighbors have already done what I'd want to do makes the prospect of buying an immediate construction project a little more feasible. so while I'm definitely going to continue looking at everything that pops up in the listings, I have a feeling I'm going to wind up buying a cottage closer to the water (but out of the flood zone) that may not have as much space as inland houses, but is more of what I need for me.

This weekend: Did exercise class on Friday after work and stopped at Wegmans on the way home. Wrapped and tagged the Christmas gifts that I've bought. Cleaned the house and changed sheets. Finished another deep cleaning task. Baked corn bread. Prepared apple pie filling and froze for Thanksgiving. Roasted a large acorn squash. Did the books at church. Picked up cute bag with crayon roll that friend made for me to give little niece. Bought her a grocery gift card as thank you. Found some $4 NBPR tags at Save-A-Lot for things that I'd already purchased. Got some books at the library Spent some time with my horse. Dried a load of clothes by the wood burning stove. Cocooned with DH by the fire all Sunday afternoon....pure bliss.

We took a drive to Springfield, Mo. and had lunch at Bass Pro. I bought a really cute hostess gift for a friend...peppermint hot chocolate and a package of holiday monkey bread.
Soon I will call this same friend and find out results of her DHs carotid artery test.

Wednesday. Yoga. Home, internet, lunch. Cardio tennis, shower, shop for M&Ms for a recipe, coffee group with friends, home, get The Doctors Word of The Day entered.
Wrap Xmas gifts for the great grandkids. Prepare some pages for a group on Saturday. I still have more typing to do.
Decide to eat the peanut butter and honey sandwich before the bread goes bad. That's an over-snack.

We licensed the new car today, then had lunch at Wendys. I dropped off DH at Barnes & Noble so he could get his Starbucks & magazine fix, and I went to Home Goods. I bought 2 different sizes of white platters with handles for $30.
Sometimes when you downsize you find you got rid of things you should have kept, and platters were 2 of them. Having guests next weekend for a few days and first night here I plan on pot roast with potatoes, carrots and whole small onions. Didn't have a platter to put the food on. Do now!

Thanks for asking. Work out at the gym was great then tennis with 6 people. One doubles and one singles court. Shower then home for lunch, nap. Book group discussion. I got a notice on my car that the computer needed updating so I set the appointment for a Wed. at 12:30 p.m. My cardio tennis time. Called the attorney about the property dispute with my brother. How to go forward. Sit outside and read. Dinner, nap 2. Waiting for Grimm to come on TV.

hanging out with some girlfriends tonight, at my friends show at a townie bar on the South Shore. I'll head south with him to crash tonight on the Cape, and we will go check out at least one, possibly four houses tomorrow before I head back "home" for the rest of the weekend. two of them have open houses on Sunday, one of them I fully expect to be in a bidding war by Monday. I'm anothe month away from having my down payment fund back where I want it, so there's no way I can hop in on that mess if there is one. oh, and this was last night, but I think I met the puppy that will be joining me on my next adventures. I'd post the pic, but I'm in it. need to figure out that balance as well. I know that I have a lot of stuff in the air right now, but I'm seriously not stressing about any of it. I will land where I am supposed to....with everyone that is supposed to be there for the ride. sent from my electronic distraction

A new house and a new puppy, that sounds positively wonderful.

Pats, I use old socks as dusting rags. I can slip one right over my hand, and spray with Endust, or whatever - they make good oiling rags for wood furniture too, and they're soft.
You can wash them separate from your regular laundry & re-use them over and over.

Pat, we just replaced our under cabinet lights that were fluorescent with LED lights that we bought @ Lowes. Each was about $50 and we needed four.

This weekend: Cleaned the house and scrubbed the edges of the hardwood in the kitchen. Finished the laundry and ironing Did the books at church and paid some bills. Visited with my horse. It was really cold out there. Her coat is nice and thick. Made taco soup with ground turkey and baked more corn bread. Hit Tops and WM. Returned some things. Picked up more things for Thanksgiving. Got DS a Jerry Garcia silk tie at Kohl's with 20% coupon and $10 Kohl's cash. Got myself a pretty thermal long sleeve shirt on sale. Wrapped and tagged the tie(I try to wrap as I buy which seems to make it easier). After going out for breakfast and going to church, DH and I went to Syracuse for calling hours for a friends Mom who passed. Stopped and visited with family there. Was thrilled to gas up at $2.859/gal at Hess. In Rochester the lowest I could find was $3.159/gal. Mailed another $4 NBPR rebate. Was able to work out a few times last week. Will work Mon and Tues this week and the off until next Monday. Hope to get a lot of preparation done Wednesday.

hit up Kohl's at 1am for one of the doorbusters for my BIL. my sis needed an extra set of hands. when we left Kohl's, she dropped me off back at the house and kept going to Walmart for the rest of the stuff on her list. I slept until about 9.
when sis and I got moving again around noon or so, we hit the road to run a few errands. we picked up my ski season pass at Wachusett Mtn (about half an hour away) and picked up a package at a friend's house since he's away this weekend. put that inside the garage, and then called the guy who breeds the golden retrievers I met last week - to see if I could meet the rest of the litter this weekend and pick my pup ahead of when they are old enough to leave mom. the same adorable little pup that found me in the school hallway last week found me again today, so I had her marked for me. spending a little more time with just the one pup than when a bunch of us were just passing 'em around last week.....come to find out the pup's a girl, not a boy. so I need a new name. I was totally planning on either Murphy or Dug, but I can't do that to a little girl!
we're back at the house now, thawing out.
