12 Senate seats for California. Something tells me the Senate Republicans might have a few things to say about this. Unless they decide to split up Texas to balance it out.
I give this ballot measure approximately a 2% chance of passing though, so it really doesn't matter. Ballot measures in the state are required to have a statement on them where the state budget office gives an approximate cost, and any that don't say 0 face an uphill battle with voters, especially if there's no readily apparent benefit.

I doubt Congress would allow this to happen.

I read some analysis that this would boost the republicans in the senate because three of the new states would be drawn to be republican.

Think of the boost to the economy: everyone would have to buy a new American flag.

they have been trying to break the state up since the 1860's. it fails every time.
candidly, i would like to see it split in two. the Southern half of the state uses our resources without any thought to it. it would be nice to make it an issue of interstate commerce rather than one half telling the other what to do.

Are you saying the idiots in Sacramento and the idiots in Los Angeles don't get along well? That is a sacrilege.
They were talking about splitting Calif when we lived there. We moved from there in 1973, but at that time is was just divided in 2.
Adding 10 more people to the US Senate could get interesting .........

I feel sorry for those who live in a state where they are outnumbered. They feel their vote never counts. A way to solve that might be to award electoral votes based on the percentage of votes cast. If its 60 per cent one way and 40 per cent another and there's 10 votes available, then 6 go one way and 4 the other.
