What qualifies as the 20% of daily calcium - the fake plastic cheese slice on top of those patties?
And the bolded part is probably the reason why there's so many obese adults & children in lower-income families these days - they're feeding the family McCrap on the cheap instead of shopping for/preparing nutritional & healthy foods on the cheap - yes, it can be done.

As long as you get a diet coke with that double cheeseburger. A regular Coke cancels out all those incredible cheap nutrients in the double cheeseburger!!

what kinds of esoteric lefty-foodie codes is he talking about? "Onions, $1.99/lb"? That's so confusing! Broccoli confuses me.

"Some major fast-food chains – McDonald’s, KFC, Taco Bell – may find the latest Consumer Reports fast-food survey hard to swallow. According to the survey, released on Wednesday, more than 30,000 Consumer Reports subscribers say these restaurants’ signature items are the worst in their categories: McDonald’s has the worst burger; KFC has the worst chicken; and Taco Bell has the worst burrito." Consumer Reports: McDonald’s burger ranked worst in the U.S.
Fried shit on a roll probably has some nutritional value too. But would you eat it.

This story came out more than a year ago. You even created a thread about it, Paul, and we discussed it.

I never ate at McDonald's as a kid, so I guess I missed some sort of happy meal right of passage. When I got to college, I tried a big mac for the first time. Tasted worse than anything I've ever tried. No amount of beer or intoxication would have helped me choke it down. Not long ago, I tried a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. Tasted okay, but then my toddler took it apart. When I tasted the egg alone, it did not taste like egg. The cheese did not taste like cheese and the sausage was awful. Disgusted, I spit it out and threw it away vowing never to stop at McDonald's again.
Maybe it's an acquired taste.

I grew up lower middle class, and we were always broke. So as a kid eating out was mcdonalds, pizza or Long john silvers. Loved it back then. Now that I eat a very healthy, organic pescatarian diet the thought of that stuff makes me cringe. I had some pizza at at office party a few weeks ago and felt like an oily fat slob the rest of the day.
The cost of health care associated with such a mcdonalds diet should also be favored in. Or who knows maybe it's not as high as I think since they all might drop dead early anyway.

gooddecisions, that's because it wasn't real cheese - and as for the egg, I'd question its freshness - or even if it was a real (natural) egg.
And do you really want a 16 yr old (who may or may not know about proper food handling - or hygiene) to be preparing your Mc-Mystery Meal?
I got a double-burger there a couple of months ago - out of sheer desperation - I was starving, eating on the run on the way to a meeting, and it was right there - it sure wasn't edible - or close to any McAnything I'd had as a kid. It got tossed.
I've had the same experience with KFC - I won't go near their food anymore either - it's so laced with MSG and improperly handled prepared, last time I had it it got tossed as well- I think it was left-overs from the day before that had been re-cooked - it was dry & disgusting - I woudn't have fed it to an animal. It wasn't the same KFC chicken as when the Colonel was still alive.
When it comes to food now, I have my standards - which are getting narrowed down as far as fast-food is concerned.
I can put together a burger at home in less than 1/2 hr - I buy my own ground beef and make/freeze my own patties. I don't need to be poisoned by any McCrappy Meal. If I'm going to eat out (even on the cheap, as in fast-food), I have my standards. At least SubWay still has fresh ingredients and sub-loafs and live up to their standards/reputation. I get to choose what I want in my sandwich, and it's made-to-order - with me able to watch them assemble it.

ՏՇԾԵԵʅՏɧ_LԹՏՏʅҼ - I think we are getting off track from the thread's possible intention. That poor people in need will survive on two, maybe three crappy, tasteless hamburgers a day (and nothing else) and should be darn thankful U.S. citizens tossed them a few bucks for food.

I'm just a food-snob, Tenn. McCrap isn't on my radar anymore. Do still eat fast-food? Hell, Yes - I just choose my poison wisely.

For some reason I like McDonalds plain hamburgers after I've been sick. Bland I guess. I pitch the bun with the ketchup/mustard/onion and eat the burger, plain bun and pickle. I love the strawberry shakes. I'll have one of those any time.

@xmascookie , if I'm forced to eat McD on the run, I usually scrape off the pickles/onions. The only thing of theirs I can usually stomach is their fries (occasionally).
I don't buy Big Macs because all you're basically getting is bread.
On rare occasions, I'll buy a McDouble - but again, that's very rarely. There's a Local family owned burger drive-in that's been here since I was a kid, and their burgers are so outstanding they're famous.
We also have a Five Guys a block away from McD's. Guess who gets the most business - simply on quality..

My daughter and MIL actually like McDonalds burgers, I've just gotten to where I just can't eat them, they are horrible. I do get an egg McMuffin if we are in a hurry but they are getting worse and worse.
There is very little fast food I can stomach anymore. I will eat some of DQ's sandwiches but not many. Subway is still a good restaurant and I do like the fresh bread, veggies, and ok meat.
We have an awesome Italian restaurant in town and they make it all from scratch. The local Asian restaurant is very good too. We have a few diners with home cooked food and a new bakery has been opened and their stuff is very expensive but its good. However they don't bake bread, to sad.
I cook all I can at home. I go to the next big town to buy my fresh foods, fish, and meat anymore. The local store has meat from the US and Australia, you kidding me? Kroger is still pretty good and the one I got to sells a lot so their items are fresh, or fresher.
I'm going to try another market in the next city, been in business for years and years, they say their meat is very good, and I'm going to try an Asian grocery. A Japanese restaurant has a market in back and sells fresh seafood, I've had it before, its good.
is there something wrong with mean from Australia?

By "We", do you mean the US?
I live in Western Canada - where cattle ranching is abundant. The area and ranches produce some of the finest beef in the world, and have for many decades. We also have a lot of wheat farming, and other vegetable or grain crops. British Columbia to the west of me has a lot of orchards in the lower interior of the province - and also vegetable crops.
Asia and Europe (especially Italy) has very rich loam for produce as well.

Have you ever had the frappes? I think they put crack in them.

Have you ever had the frappes? I think they put crack in them. The food scientists do get paid the big bucks to figure out how to make you eat more than you want to and crave their employers product...
On the other hand, since we are in the US, we don't serve grubs that taste like cheese in some of our cuisine. (Must not glance at Travel Channel dining segments in the future!)

The ground beef looks not so good. And I cannot believe we can get meat cheaper from halfway around the world. We used to have the best meat and veggies in the world. You don't know what kind of crap you are eating anymore.
I won't buy meat from there. By whose measure? I think various countries in Europe have had superior food laws and general agriculture for my entire adult life. There is still good meat here. Unfortunately the majority of it is pricey organic and/or pasture raised stuff.

I think the big clue is in the article of the URL: Very high intakes of cruciferous vegetables…have been found to cause hypothyroidism
Juicing and vitamins allow people to ingest way more of a vegetable or fruit than they otherwise would. I think the saying, all things in moderation, is true for Kale, soy, McDonald's food and pretty much any food.
Maybe next time they can just title their articles 'The Dark side of excess' or the 'Dark side of stupidity' and add kale, blueberries, low fat, whatever is currently buzz and article worthy.

I won't buy meat from there. my beef comes from Uruguay via Wegmans. It's grass fed, completely, not finished on grain like the majority of the US grass fed beef. my other option for grass fed is mail order from Montana - loved it but wegmans is slightly cheaper.
