Yes, would definitely add Misery to the list. I would also add Stand by Me (based on Stephen King's book The Body). I am not sure how many times I have watched Stand by Me. It is one of my all time favorite movies.
Yeah, that's a classic all right. Shawshank and Green Mile are high on my list too.
I also loved the movie ending to The Mist (which is apparently quite different from the book's). King reportedly loved it too.

I just read in a industry rag that a mini-series movie is being made of The Dovekeepers. That book affected me pretty deeply. I'm not sure about how I feel seeing it on the screen.

I saw the preview for The Giver yesterday. I might have to skip it.

I liked the book. Very deep. When my kids first read it they thought what a great society it was. As they matured and re-read it, they saw the darker side.

I have had United 93 on my Netflix list for a very long time. I want to watch it but I don't (if that makes any sense). I have a very hard time watching anything that has to do with 9/11 but I have heard the movie is well done.

At first, I thought that said "four examples" and thought you were crazy! I'd add Misery to your list though, Cathy Bates was awesome. Eta: The Stand was great too. SK had some awful movies, but he hada lot of good ones too The movies I can think of would be movies that are hard to watch because they are true and show some hard-to-watch situations. Things like Schindler's List, Hanoi Hilton, some others I can't think of. I have, and will, watch many of them several times, but they give me that "why?!" feeling and a shudder. Yes, would definitely add Misery to the list. I would also add Stand by Me (based on Stephen King's book The Body). I am not sure how many times I have watched Stand by Me. It is one of my all time favorite movies. Crap, I meant Stand by Me! Not The Stand. Love it. I no clue the main character was played by Will Wheaton until just recently. Had always wondered what happened to the actor.

Did you learn that from The Big Bang Theory? Actually found out from a speech he gave a girl about being picked on in school. If it was in TBBT, I missed it

Really? He's only aged about 3 days.
He looks so much like he used to that the first time I saw him as an adult (in an episode of Star Trek) I immediately said to DH "That's the kid from Stand By Me, right?"

Nope, not a connection I would have made. I never watched Star Trek and the first time I can remember seeing him as an adult was in TBBT.

He was an awful actor on Star Trek and he's gotten fat as he aged. Still trading on his Star Trek "fame."

LOVED this movie. I understood the Josh Brolin character. Not a bad person, but someone who happens upon cash lying around on the ground and takes it, thinking no one will know he did it. Unfortunately he wandered into the path of the Javier Bardem character (possibly the most frightening sociopath since Hannibal Lecter) and all the rest of his actions were caused by him attempting to get away. THe scene in the hallway of the old hotel with Bardem walking down the dark hallway towards Brolin's room - brilliant. Yes, but even his actions of trying to get away were dumb as shit. Every single move he made, IMO, was just down right stupid. I mean, why did he go to some flea bag motel in the middle of west Texas anyway. My ass would have gone to NYC or some other big city with tons of people. I certainly wouldn't have stayed in west Texas. I just couldn't get past the stupidity and kept during the entire movie. A much better movie regarding "found money" (IMO) was The Perfect Plan with Billy Bob Thornton and Bill Paxton. I liked The Perfect Plan, too. I guess I saw Josh Brolin's character as an ordinary, simple man, not a bad person but not a deep thinking person. Worked his whole life at a blue collar type job, found this money and thought he could get away with taking it. What he didn't realize was the nature of the person tracking the money. Suger was such a psychopath, so ruthless and violent. Brolin's character thought he could hide from him, or defend himself from him, like he could with an ordinary policeman or street thug, not realizing what an extraordinarly evil person Suger was. It was as terrifying as watching a mouse being hunted by a tiger, thinking the tiger was a housecat.

I didn't watch Star Trek and I actually DID find out he was the kid from Stand By Me from The Big Bang Theory - LOL. It is very sad that River Phoenix passed away. I thought he was destined to be a great actor some day.

The first two Fast And Furious movies have some of the worse dialogue I have ever seen in any movie, and that includes cheesy '70s porn.
Tokyo Drift was actually pretty solid, and is the only one of the whole series that I've watched more than once.
My problem with Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban is that they switched directors, and the new guy thought he needed to beat you over the freaking head with the clocks in the movie.

LOL - can we move this thread to the Movie section? Leaving Las Vegas - 1995! I was age 24 that year! I love to hate this one because: I think I was bored throughout the movie? I knew what was going to happen at the end! and yet - the movie brought me to tears! and I purchased the DVD and never watched it again!

Remakes of anything. I HATE remakes. I would like to see Hollywood put out some ORIGINAL stories for a change. I like Maleficient but seriously it is the same old remake of Sleeping Beauty. I mean, please, please, please put out some ORIGINAL material!!!! Sheesh.

Yeah, good luck with that. You can only reinvent the wheel so many times. Coming up with original story material is really freaking difficult.
As one of my favorite bloggers likes to say, if you can come up with a new answer to either the question "If they love each other, why can't they be together?" or "If he knows who the bad guy is, why can't he just go to the police?" you can make a fortune. Almost every conceivable answer to both of those questions has been done to death.

My niece came to visit this past weekend and wanted to see 22 Jump Street. Not worth the $16 bucks I paid for the two of us but at least I got to see Channing Tatum

I've considered purchasing that DVD, except I don't want my husband to think I'm a perv for playing the good parts over and over.

Oh, that's a good one. I liked the movie a lot but there were various things about it that drove me nuts. I was so happy when Sandra Bullock's character finally asked the guy if he even wanted to play football. Just because he is large black dude doesn't mean he necessarily wanted to play football (which everyone in the movie just assumed).
