What exactly is it you're questioning? All you did was provide a thread title and a link.
Are you suggesting when a person becomes a senior citizen their weapons should be taken away? That the medical profession or Gov't should be able to decide if a senior should own a gun?
According to the article, the person (Warren Johnson) is only 65 - and has been handling/shooting weapons (including black powder rifles) - and I agree with everything he states in the article - especially this:
This thread would probably also be more suited to "Current Events".

No they would love it if all guns were taken away from everyone.

Until I get really old, I will choose to beat any intruder to death. Then, my first line of defense will be my guns. I once had a doctor who had a line on his paperwork asking about firearms. My answer was NFB (Not you Fxxxxxx Business). Needless to say, the doctor didn't last long.
ETA if you come into my home, family or not, without a warrant and try to take my guns, you will be treated as a common, home invading thief.

My answer to any Doctor that asks "do you have a gun in your house?" would be "None of your business, now, how about we discuss my {whatever I actually went to the doctor FOR}".

Maybe it is a family issue- but at some point you may have to take the keys (and guns) away.

Those are two issues - guns and keys.
One I had difficulty with in rellies is booze. The older and boozier they get, the meaner and less reasonable. This circles around to keys. Caring for an elderly drunk is one of the levels of hell.

I don't own a firearm. But as I age further, and if health problems start becoming an issue, I just may purchase a handgun. Depends upon whether or not physician assisted death is available in my state.
I will be considerate though if I must use a handgun. I will do it outside so there is little mess for others to clean up.

Eff that- a Liter of Jack Daniels with a few choice pills No physician needed. Everyone has their own exit strategy I guess- sure as shit beats hanging on half alive in a hospital for months prolonging the inevitable.
Besides- some kid could stumble upon the gun outside.

Imagine some kid taking my gun from my cold, dead hands. Additionally, I don't drink. Bad for my health.

The aftermath of a personally chosen exit strategy runs from difficult to devastating for family members. This board community has had three sad experiences.

Gallows humor- not trying be offensive. But a lot of people I know- including me- prefer being in charge of their own situation and dealing with it on their own terms. I'd rather die with my boots on than go through the hell I have seen some people go through.
