Ready for a little mid-week fun? This morning a caller from (202)864-1267 fraudulently claimed he was from the IRS and told me that as a result of an internal audit, I owe some amount of money to the IRS. When called out on it, caller hung up and blocked my number. How about ALL of my friends give 'em a jingle jangle today. That number again is (202)864-1267 and no matter who you are- just say you're EDIT: Make that Paul Stratus, since that's how everyone who calls with a heavy Indian accent seems to say it- so they get the message

There are 3 other complaints involving this number listed with 800.Notes.com. All are from today so this is, apparently, a new "idea". There's an older complaint on another listing service involving a call made claiming to be able to save the recipient money. There should be a special corner in hell for telephone scammers!

These idiots try all sorts of tricks to try to get you to pick up the phone. It even gets somewhat personal.
A security company has called me countless times. My caller ID states it is a toll free number or area code not local and 'Caller Unknown'. So I do not pick up. Recently they changed their tactics by making it appear to be a very local call. The area code and first three digits of the scammer phone number are the same as mine. But the last four digits are just a very slight difference than mine. For example, the last four digits of mine might be 5655 but the last four digits of the scam caller number are 5659. So the call looks like it is someone very local calling me.
Call block is a wonderful thing.

For the last couple of nights we have gotten a call around the dinner hour. When we answer we hear a hang up .... and it's from our area code.
We call the number back and get ....... nothing. They called for a second time last night and we let go to voice mail ....... nothing.
I don't know if they are casing us to find out if we are home or casing so another call can come through and go directly to VM.
Expecting the call within the hour. LOL

I posted a warning about it on (I think) Your Money. I did do a call back and got an answering machine. Did NOT leave a message.

'Rachel' from 'Credit Card Services' has a new trick up her sleeve. I just received a call and my caller ID indicated the call was coming from me (my name) and my own home phone number.

Chiver-some of these scammer calls may not be originating in the States. My caller today (and other times in the past) had a south Asian accent. We probably will never catch most of them.
