Really? You thought I taught in a public school to special needs children with a high school diploma? Bullshit. I got paid based on my seniority, not that I got paid for shit but I CHOSE to love where I lived vs, making a lot of money by living where teachers make a lot of money. No, I don't think McDonalds or unskilled labor should make $15 an hour but that is between them and their employers. You need to work two jobs because you're unskilled? So be it. I was skilled and worked three. I wasn't too precious to work to support myself and my kids. Some people think they're owed something just by being out on this earth. Very sad that the govt has fostered this mentality by supporting those who make poor decisions. Are you a GYM teacher? Sheesh you pretty much read whatever you want into what I post.
BTW I do not need to work two jobs- my regular job pays all of my bills just fine. I CHOOSE to do some work on the side- which is SKILLED WORK- because I like to help out the people I work with at my main job. I work that 'job' at will whenever I want since I work for me. My point was I make more working 4-5 hours on my off time than I would working 40 at minimum wage for some McJob- hence my support for raising their pay has nothing to do with me.
So maybe quit associating me with these 'entitlement minded' people you obviously have a problem with. Since you taught special-ed you have my respect as a person- but your arguments and your read of me suck wind.

No. They aren't YOUR businesses. no, but we have the right to regulate them, right?

But, go ahead. Raise it to $50 an hour. nice reductio ad absurdum, but i really don't think that is necessary. $10/hr would do quite nicely. The only thing that will accomplish is that the economy will simply shift and adjust and minimum wage workers will be no better off than they are right now. what makes you think so? it has never worked that way in the past. never.

It's a ridiculous idea- the economy does not work like that. In fact I'd call it a gross over-simplification of a much more complicated- yet equally wrong argument.
Somewhere in the $10 range would be fine, we tie it to inflation or some similar calculation and we never talk about it again. One less issue to argue about.

One less issue to argue about. totally. the idea is for businesses to provide the basic means for people so government doesn't have to. it is a really simple idea that should appeal as much to the Nordquists of this world as the Warrens. the alternative is to have way more people on the dole, or massive starvation, disease, homelessness, crime, etc. in my darker moments i worry about the third worldifcation of the US, but i know in my heart that liberals and even the average American would stand in the way of that, even if there is a certain very visible and vocal thread in US politics that would cheer it.

HS gym teachers make 80K in NYC? Why the heck not? Teachers generally are paid by their communities so why shouldn't they be paid well in areas of wealth and high cost of living?

Has anyone said they shouldn't make 80K? Nope.
Now if you want to talk politicians then there is one particular group that seems to have a problem with teachers, their unions, their benefits...........Hint: I'm not in it.

For someone who CLAIMS to be a have, you sure spend a lot of time bashing them. Sounds more like have not sour grapes. A gym teacher, can you even be more rude?

When you post "80k really?" you are implying that is too much in addition to your mcds comments. Nice backpedal though.

And please if I have ever said teachers make too much please I'd love for you to show me that.
It's really simple- I was surprised they (being gym teachers) made that much- probably double or more what some make in LCOL areas. And as far as I know these gym 'teachers' do not have to have masters or even a college degree- might be wrong- but I seem to recall certain coaches did not either- and they taught gym class.
And on that logic- if the COL is that high where gym teachers have to make double to survive, then should not the minimum wage also be higher? I then empathized with the plight of that group in that city.
That's it, that's all I said- so if you want to believe I am either jealous of NYC gym teachers or think they are overpaid have at it. I give up.

Has anyone figured out yet just what he's bitching about? The 80k for a "gym" teacher that he's supposedly went to college because he's so well educated and informed that he didnt know teachers had to ACTUALLY go to college and even graduate? He must not know any teachers. Or the fact that a woman had sex with a student and will get off easy for it? Which is his latest bitch? Any clues?

And how is rude to call a gym teacher a gym teacher? What should they be called? I think it's rude to refer to min. wage workers the way you and others do- as lazy, undeserving, and whatever other crap you normally throw at them.
Remember- I'm with the group that supports well paid teachers- you are with the group that want's to cut their benefits, take their pensions, end their bargaining power, etc. You are with the group that refers to all government workers as overpaid public teet suckers so maybe you might want to get off that horse.

So I misread the intent of the title? So why was it even there if the thread supposedly wanted to be about the rape, etc.? I'll skip the redirect red herring. THX.

My SIL is a high-school teacher - more importantly, a high-school teacher in a school that is for students with special needs students - some physical handicaps, others, mental..
She's paid diddly-squat for the degree she's earned as well extra specialized training she's undergone.
Other teachers in this area are also extremely underpaid for their their education, dedication and devotion to the job at hand.
You may not be aware, but most teachers also have to do grading of papers/tests, and assignment planning on their own time.

What the fuck ever- damn! I was curious why they made so much- and qualified that with a cost of living condition.
Gym teachers and coaches- sometimes one in the same- were not 'teachers' back in my day. Sure- maybe now they have physical therapy degrees- and maybe they don't- but that was not the point. It was a simple cost of living curiosity and I felt it noteworthy that the only people immune to the cost of living are minimum wage workers.
If anyone thinks the point of this thread was to attack teachers excuse the hell out of me. I am a dirty liberal- we value teachers and educating our children to think for themselves- not clutch Bibles and deny science. Not attack the poor as lazy. Whatever the hell with it.
So let's move on to part II- I say this woman gets off easy- and I predict about 10 times easier than a male teacher. I remember the FL thread where some here were happy with sending an 18yo girl off for 15 years as a sexual felon (Pappy and others) because her girlfriend was 15- and I bet these same people will not even be bothered by this. Probably would high-five the boys.

Shooby and others, don't bother, things haven't changed a bit. If he didnt have a "protector" so far up his butt she couldn't see straight, he'd get called out constantly the way Paul and other posters do.

Seems his protector is trying to hang onto her job so has backed off. That's kinda nice. It'll probably work.

*chuckle* How has he broken the CoC or the ToS, zibazinski? If those aren't broken and nobody is personally insulted, there's no need for any "protection".
