Wait until you reach the age when it is "... parking close to the door ..." I haven't reached that age yet. My thing is if I can't find a parking spot where I can pull thru I will just leave!! Now in my defense I drive a small car that sits low to the ground and I am short. Backing up between two "semi's" is not safe for me or anyone. But I've been this way for years since I've been driving small cars for 45 plus years!!!! And those parking spaces are usually long way from the door. But I know my time is coming. Probably just call UBER then!!!

I prefer pull through spots but will use others if its important like groceries or meds. My day. Pull through then too close to cart corral to get out. Decide it's unwise to back up and repark. I make a big circle, find a partially shaded spot. Hit the curb pulling in then repark. Back from the store, the steering wheel is locked and the key won't turn. Tires up against the curb. What now, think this through. Remove key, try again. Nope. Put car in drive then park, retry nope. Open car door and close it then grab the steering wheel and yank twice, it loosens, key fits and car starts. The same thing happened years ago with a little subaru parked on a hill in the middle of almost no where. Very early morning and a man is standing in the 2 track. I asked him to help. He did then left. I now know steering wheel needs to be in level position so tires are straight.
Just a hint on why I emotionally eat enough M & Ms to cover my desired calorie intake.

Any time my steering wheel is locked and my key won't turn, I pull on the steering wheel with my left hand and turn the key with the other. Works every time. Sorry you had a bad day. Enjoy your M & M's! (I heard the brown ones are healthier, because chocolate doesn't need food coloring. 😉)
