CIVILITY ALERT! Georgia Congressman Paul Broun (R) has confirmed that he received this question at a town hall on Tuesday: "Who's going to shoot Obama?" According to the Athens Banner-Herald, which first reported the news, Broun responded to the question this way: "The thing is, I know there’s a lot of frustration with this president. We’re going to have an election next year. Hopefully, we’ll elect somebody that’s going to be a conservative, limited-government president that will take a smaller, who will sign a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare." Broun's spokeswoman told the Georgia newspaper: “Obviously, the question was inappropriate, so Congressman Broun moved on.” Now, after the outburst gained national attention, Broun has issued a statement condemning any suggestion or threat of violence aimed at the president or any other elected official. Broun: "Tuesday night at a town hall meeting in Oglethorpe County, Georgia an elderly man asked the abhorrent question, “Who’s going to shoot Obama?” I was stunned by the question and chose not to dignify it with a response; therefore, at that moment I moved on to the next person with a question. After the event, my office took action with the appropriate authorities. I deeply regret that this incident happened at all. Furthermore, I condemn all statements—made in sincerity or jest—that threaten or suggest the use of violence against the President of the United States or any other public official. Such rhetoric cannot and will not be tolerated." *** UPDATE *** TPM is reporting that, per witnesses, Broun "laughed when an elderly man at his town hall meeting this week asked 'Who's gonna shoot Obama?'" firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/02/25/6131433-broun-regrets-and-condemns-violent-town-hall-questionThread edited to point out the congressman's statement about the incident.

You found a lone nut. You can't find a main-stream, in the party or party leadership doing the kinds of things that people IN the unions are doing, and even IN the Democratic Party. My point in the other thread- which is spot on- is that the Democratic Party and it's union apparachics don't have a few fringe left supporters out there, the Democratic Party and the union apparachics ARE the fringe left.

No, actually you made my point with this thread. Find me the conservative at the podium saying we need to get a little bloody in the streets, we need to punish our enemies, if they bring a knife, we bring a gun, and find me the organized corporate employees being let in the side entrance of a townhall meeting while the voters are locked out of a public meeting and corporate enforcers beat them mercilessly outside. Nice try, but you're re-inforcing my point. Dems and Union members ARE the nutjobs. They are the thugs desperately clingly to power using the threat of force because they lost the argument and they can no longer attain power in the democratic way.

I suppose I could go out and hunt up the video that showed a Rand Paul supporter stomping on a woman's head and shoulder, but I'm not all that interested. It's stupid to try to claim the majority of nutters in the country are on a specific side of the political fence. Stupidity bores me.

'Who is going to shoot Obama?': Republican Congressman finally condemns man's crazed question By Daily Mail Reporter Republican Congressman Paul Broun has at last condemned the man who asked him ‘who is going to shoot Obama?’ while he was fielding questions at a Town Hall meeting in Athens, Georgia on Tuesday. In a statement released today, Broun said that he originally 'chose not to dignify it with a response.' What was perhaps more shocking than the man's question on Tuesday night was Broun’s tepid response to him, which failed to disparage the threat to the US president. Rather than directly addressing and condemning the unidentified man’s inflammatory inquiry, which won laughs from the audience, Brown opted to change the subject.‘The thing is, I know there's a lot of frustration with this president. We're going to have an election next year. Hopefully, we'll elect somebody that's going to be a conservative, limited-government president that will take a smaller, who will sign a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare,’ Brown responded. Special Agent Max Milien with the US Secret Service said today that the agency has looked into the matter. ‘We are aware of this incident, and the matter has been thoroughly investigated,’ Millen said today, adding that the man in question was interviewed and that the case is concluded. Threatening the life of the President is a class D felony in the United States. Broun's press secretary, Jessica Morris, has confirmed that the incendiary question was indeed asked at the Town Hall meeting and that Broun’s response was his way of deflecting it. ‘Obviously, the question was inappropriate, so Congressman Broun moved on,’ Morris said. In his statement released this morning, Broun at last condemned the man’s question and any threats against public officials. ‘I was stunned by the question and chose not to dignify it with a response; therefore, at that moment I moved on to the next person with a question,’ Broun said in the statement. ‘After the event, my office took action with the appropriate authorities. I deeply regret that this incident happened at all,’ Broun’s statement read. It was reported that the elderly attendee was able to ask the first question after Broun asked the packed house gathered at the Oglethorpe County Commission chamber who had travelled the farthest to attend the event. Broun is no stranger to courting controversy himself in his opposition to Obama’s policies. After January’s State of the Union address, he controversially tweeted ‘Mr President, you don't believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism.’ Speaking to CBS News the day following the State of the Union, Broun made no apologies for his perceived twitter outburst. 'Mr Obama believes in a big central government, where the federal government controls everything in our lives. That’s socialism. And so I stick by that tweet,' he said. How do you know he was conservative? Scramble-damage control. I'd imagine this "damage control" has more to do with the congressman's lack of foresight to condemn the remark right there on the spot. Unless this was like Obama's staged, invitation only town hall meetings, I see no evidence this guy was a conservative....just an old man making a bad "joke".

This coming from Georgia, the home of Rep. Bobby Franklin who has introduced a bill to make women who in the future have miscarriages and legal abortions convicted felons and subject to life in prison or the death penalty.
If the woman cannot satisfactorily explain her miscarriage to Rep. Bobby Franklin, then off with her head!

I've seen plenty of accusations flying around these post complaining about and accusing others of hypocrisy but anyone who consistently posts accusations about hatred, violent talk or actions and fear mongering from one of our two major parties but fails to point it out when it involved their party is the very definition of hypocrisy. There has plenty in WI recently with no comment from their "regulars" who point it out when it's Palin or a Tea Party person. Just saying...

I suppose if the pregnant woman's deranged and drug infested boyfriend, beat the living day lights out of her and caused the miscarriage, it would serve society well to find this out.

Probably because it is so rare.

The big difference here is that conservatives report and condemn such behavior. Liberals bus more in. Another case of blatant liberal hypocrisy.

My point- which is being ignored by some here because it is dead on accurate- is that the Republican / TEA Party establishment- the Sarah Palin, and Lt.Col. Allen West types have supporters on the far right who have said some pretty outrageous things. The Democratic Party and the privileged government class that acts as wing of the Democratic Party-- the teachers, the public employee union, and even private sector union bosses- senior leadership ARE the far left fringe nuts. It's the establishment left that's off the cliff. On the right, you're talking about the random oddball in a crowd. On the left, you're talking about the leadership saying-- and DOING these kinds of things.
I know this to be exactly spot on true because if there was a video of a Republican Party leader, or corporate mob giving some Democrat protester a beat down, CNN would still be running it in a loop since they found it. Even this story has no video, and nothing other than "per witnesses" to even back up the claim that the Congressman laughed.
Compare that to the Democrat Congressman from Massachusetts who recently said with respect to the fight over the future of public employee unions, saying emails aren’t enough to show support and that it is time to “get a little bloody.”
“I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going. Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary,” Rep. Mike Capuano (D-Ma.) told a crowd in Boston on Tuesday rallying in solidarity for Wisconsin union members.
I remember when Chris Matthews went absolutely apoplectic over a sign-- ONE SIGN-- at a TEA Party rally that quoted Thomas Jefferson and read, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants". It was like a reverse thrill up his leg-- and that's an objective assessment.
Fact is we have our nuts on the right. On the left, increasingly, they just ARE the nuts.

Hmm. Brown of Massachusetts (R), if I remember correctly said something to the effect of: "If Brown can't do it, a Browning can" at a Tea Party rally over healthcare. Sounds pretty much the equivalent to me.

LOL! Has anyone bothered to bring up the fact that two separate state legislatures have proposed bills to make it legal to murder abortion doctors? Or the bill in Georgia that proposes to make it a capital crime to miscarry a child? Yah, that's neither mainstream or uncivilized
