The hospital might be giving you the run around due to HIPPA.

The hospital might be giving you the run around due to HIPPA. Good point. Unless you are the person who was billed or the guardian of the child who was treated, they are not supposed to talk to you, even about the bill. BTW.....it is HIPAA.

I'm confused. If it isn't Loony's kid that was in the ER, then why does Loony know how much the bill is and why is she calling the hospital billing department? I can't even get them to talk to me about my husband and he's on my insurance.

Tloonya, if you have questions about your bill, call the hospital's billing department and ask them. We have no way of knowing. The two bills are perfectly normal. The first is the doctor's charges for his time and interventions. The second is the hospital's charges for supplies and equipment, nursing care, and the cost of running an ER 24/7/365. That's the breaks, I'm afraid. If you don't like it, you might take a look at your own culpability in this issue. How was your child able to get her hands on a bead small enough to fit up her nose and how did she get it there? While none of us is a perfect parent and accidents do happen, some of them are certainly avoidable with due diligence. mmhmm, I was actually looking for that you wrote and nothing more. Like I said I did not just got the bill and post the question here. I had been dealing with it for 2 weeks now. And it is funny you are assuming my 19 y/old child will stick a bead in her nose it is another person's child who are just starting out and I was trying to help. However their hospital keeps running me in circles. So I had asked. Nothing in my post called for 'shut us and pay'. I do appreciate all the other posts, I had learned something as always. Calling the hospital. Since you're not the child's mother, I'm surprised they'll talk to you at all. It's pretty clear you're not of much help as you're asking on an internet message board how to handle the problem, Tloonya. The child's parent needs to take the bill to the billing department in the hospital to have it explained if they have questions. You can't help since you don't know the answers.

You guys are so funny! Actually answering Loony's questions seriously and not expecting to be yelled at for it. ROFL! Actually, I don't care if she yells, or cries, or slobbers in her beer! Bringing a question like this to an internet message board while trying to "help" another person tells me just about all I need to know. If you don't know what you're dealing with, how the heck do you think you're going to help? It boggles the mind, it does!

Kind of scary how many people seem to go to someone else for advice or information when that person has little or no experience in most of the things we see asked about.

The reason why they have YOU running around in circles is because they are not allowed to talk to YOU.
The only person that they are allowed to talk to is the person on the bill. If they talk to you, they can be fired.
So please, if you want to help them, go with them to the hospital and speak to someone in the billing office. But you calling alone is going to get a stone wall, so you may as well stop frustrating yourself.

The hospital might be giving you the run around due to HIPPA. They gave me the number for itemized bill. I had received it. Called the number. They gave me another number. I am just annoyed that if there is a set amount for procedure - give it to me but list each procedure so I know I wasn't robbed. Whatever, thanks for the reply.

Tloonya, do you even know what HIPAA is? You don't call and LIE to the hospital about billing for treatment received by a child not your own. Come to think of it, remember several of your posts - lying seems to be a way of life for you. What happens when some of these lies get found out? For one thing, they won't ask and just take your word for it that you're authoritzed to speak for another person. If they do, they can lose their jobs. Does that mean anything to you?

Interesting...
I just got off the phone with my TD's doctor's office. They needed to talk to TD and would not talk to me. I did not ask them to, I merely called TD and told him that he needed to call them back and who to speak to. I did not demand that they talk to me, despite the fact that I have his POA and he has mine (on paper....done by a lawyer).
Seriously, Looney......you can get someone in trouble.
I'm not 12, I have worked in clinical research for years and know what they are allowed and lot allowed to say and the repercussions of talking to the wrong person.

Isn't breaking the rules the way she always does things, and then gets pissed that nothing falls into place for her.

It would behoove you greatly to learn a little about all the things you get yourself involved in (when it's none of your affair and you're lying your arse off) before taking on these special little "projects".

Sooo...that is not a lie, but calling about one's child to find out about charges mother has to pay is a crime. I hope you all had read that mother is here next to me and giving me all the info!!!!!!! Are you friggin kidding me Are you Mom does not speak any English!!!

Hospitals have translators on staff. If she can't understand English they'll find someone she can speak to and understand. It'd probably be much easier than you trying to get involved.

I don't give a flip where the mother is, Tloonya. If she's not able to PROVE who she is, the hospital is not allowed to take her word that you can speak for her. They don't know, for sure, who SHE is! As Mich said, there are translators available to the hospital for just such cases as this. It's not the rest of us who are out on a limb here. It's YOU. Yes. Calling a hospital to ask any question about any patient and lying about who you are is breaking the law, Tloonya. If they give you any information, they're breaking the law. Your main problem here is you don't know what the heck you're talking about, not to mention what you're dealing with!

Why isn't the mother calling and handling this herself? How did Loony get designated the neighborhood problem solver? Do these people come to her asking her to do all this stuff or does she just take over? My guess is that the mother is an immigrant with limited English, and asked Tloonya for help.

False! because translator doesn't give a damn! I do! I am on the phone with the hospital right now and she said ER level 3 W/Procedure is the charges that they charge. I said de-code it. She said 5 times this is it what it is and I said how do I know I am charged correctly? She said please, wait and put me on hold. WOULD friggin translator go trough this for a stranger Sure deal NOT. You know, you say what you will. I want to know what is that level 3 w/procedure. Just FMI!

The translator will know medical coding and how to explain the bill to your friend. The translator will also be able to help your friend either appeal or set up a payment plan. They don't have to "give a shit" personally.
It isn't any of your business why she was charged what she was charged and you're not going to be able to get them to change it no matter how much you think you can bully them into it.

The translator's job is to translate for the client and the hospital. Translating doesn't require that they become personally invested.
