I have had a problem with what the POTUS is paid.
I don't mean the current one, the past one but what is a correct figure today.
I realize there are expenses he is also taken care of with , the Camp Davids other perks, but I am talking just his annual salary.
Today I believe it's $400,000 per year.
To me that is a stupid salary..has no meaning .
To me , a correct salary for a POTUS should be $1,000,001 per year and my reasoning for that is simple.
Even today, a million a year is a important figure..impressive, you have arrived, you are in a important position and this salary is because it is recognized that it is a very, very important position that major decisions and leadership is asked by anyone holding the position and such is recognized.
Why the extra $1.00? Because that also sends a message. There is no way a proper figure can be put on the position to compensate a individual to hold that position so the $1.00 is a way of saying that it is recognized there is no way to adequately compensate some one to hold such a position and we recognize that, ,thus the million because of the job and the responsibilities of it and a extra $1.00 to say we haven't a clue as to how much to pay some one for all this responsibility.
I am not talking about our current or past POTUS...what I feel it should be and why.

Maybe we should tally the extras he gets as POTUS -ie. the medical doctor as a 24/7 presence, never any traffic etc. etc. - and then discuss his income - heck maybe even tax him on them

That's for the benefit of the country... upheaval created by a dead president, no matter the reason, is never enviable... we do what we can to keep him safe and healthy, no matter who he is, for this reason...

That's a new one.... well you and I don't get the services of numerous law enforcement to totally shut down streets and other roadways for our uninterrupted passage Yes, I am well aware of the reasons for it - but it is a definite perk of the job, not available to the 300,000,000 citizens that help to pay for it

***************
so do gov'ners, mayors, senators..... I was in a funeral procession once for a police officer (cousin's husband) and they shut down the main freeway in Houston when we were on it for a stretch....so, indirectly, I have been a part of something that shut down the street in the middle of the day for our passage and it was at the tax payers expense...
I think claiming 'traffic he doesn't deal with' as a perk or salary is reallllllllllllllllllllllllly stretching things.... it's just silly

Hope any comments are not considering who is in office or were...I am suggesting what a POTUS should be paid.
There will allways be people in the office that some are not happy anout but unless you think we could be who wer are as a nation and NOT have a POTUS..I am saying what a POTUS is paid today compared to the importance of the positiion is sully and I gave my reasons for what I feel would be a proper renumeration and why.
If you want to compare salarys you can't,,just go to Professional ball players..the length of them,, the CEO's , the non CEO's but highly renumerated and put their responsibilits against a POTUS, no matter what their success in their little world is.

I think politics should be an unpaid career - because it shouldn't be a career. It should be a volunteer position, done by people who actually give a crap.

Well maybe not exactly - but I believe our founding fathers envisioned citizen politicians - serve a term or two in DC and then they would go back to their normal lives - not be career politicians making a fortune off of public service

I would say a mil a year and the usual perks. However good or bad the presidents writing a book after office will net him millions in royalties. A few speeches after office etc and a few million more in the bank. Example-Hot pants Clinton.

I just got home. Stayed in NYC tonight to take a private dance lesson to learn Viennese Waltz. This dance is my GF's favorite dance. The instructor was really good... booking another lesson with her for next week.... Oh, forgot, we are talking about the POTUS annual salary....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, yeah, $400,000 is too little. I think it should be at least double.

Stick to it SF: The Waltz is a beautiful dance. Not to mention when I am down I listen to waltz music. I would like to learn the waltz, but can you imagine a redneck waltzing the dance floor. Would look like to game roosters in a cock fight.

I guess I'm really old school, but I've always thought if I were to decide to endeavor to hold a public office, I'd be happy if all my expenses were paid and I had but a pittance for "extras". To serve your fellow citizens should be an honor, and a privilege. It shouldn't be an ongoing road paved in gold. It's a choice, not an edict to run for public office.

Got it , thinkn your thinking of running for office after you pass through those "Pearly Gates"..till then, you get the job, you get $1,000.001 and not one penny more.

The Presidents yearly salary is completely irrelevant and I doubt very many people even know what it is.

The Presidents yearly salary is completely irrelevant and I doubt very many people even know what it is. Thats because they don't belong to and participate here on these zones. Aren't you glad you do, now you know the answer.

I see no reason they should need a salary beyond "We hope nobody bribes them" or something (which 400k probably won't do anyway).

It's not like they'd have no income. I do believe the payments on their civilian home should be paid, insurance kept up, etc. That will then be there for them when they've completed their term(s). All other expenses would be paid. They've a place to live and it doesn't cost them anything. Pretty plush, too. They're driven, or flown wherever they want/need to go. Health care, food, suitable clothing and other necessities are paid for. Beyond that, what does one really need?
