Yep, she had CPS called on her I hadn't talked to her in over a month and yesterday when we were outside our neighbor tells us he heard she got a visit. Later in the evening the woman posted something on fb about a nasty attack on her and then she pm'd me about it! I guess someone accused her of abusing her kid and she has a lawyer and a meeting with CPS very soon. I'm dying to know who called!

Wasn't she smoking pot and you were in dilemma whether to call CPS about it or not? So what happened with the CPS visit? Did she say anything about it on FB? Nosy minds want to know

If you report people for smoking pot, then I hope you also report people for drinking...

No. Why don't you re-tell the story so we have a clue what you are posting about.

Ok, the woman I was babysitting for and I quit because she was smoking pot and wouldn't change the baby formula to something that was more suited to the baby's tummy, to many hours, blah, blah, blah... I don't know the details yet but someone called on her and she got a visit. I will update when I know more.

I posted a thread back in January about not babysitting for this woman for many reasons and lot's of people thought I should call CPS. Not sure if that helps.

She has a lawyer and a meeting with CPS next week and yes she posted something on fb! I have no idea who called and why but she did tell me someone acccused her of abusing her kid and I have no idea what kind of abuse. Does anyone know if they will tell her who called? I'm hoping she will tell me and I really hope it isn't true!

Me, me, me!
I remember your post!
So, Karma finally caught up with her, huh? I feel very sorry for the baby. I hope now that mom will get her act together.

If she's neglecting her infant/not bathing it, or feeding it, etc - all those could be construed as child abuse - abuse doesn't necessarily have to be physical - and I hope physical abuse isn't the case here.
I seriously doubt that CPS will tell her who called them.
At this point all they're doing is a follow-up/investigation of a reported case of *possible* child abuse.

If you were working too many hours for her someone might have called CPS to tell them the baby was neglected. When you worked for her, was she gone at work a lot of hours, or was she out socializing? CPS may understand if she has to work a lot of overtime, as long as she leaves the baby with a suitable caretaker, but they aren't going to like her dumping the kid a lot so she can go party.

As I recall, there where lots of "working lates" that turned into dates/dinner out type situations. And personally, I think if you have a colicky baby you need to experiment with different types of formula to try to find one that eases the colic. This mom wasn't willing to do that. And call me judgey but I think that alone is worth a call to CPS. ETA - thanks for the update.

I had the baby 10+ hours a day depending on the day. 10 minimum for regular days. Seriously to much for me as she would not get the formula situation straightened out and. I had a crying, spewing baby all day. Not fun. I am not sure if it is someone she was close to and they haven't been on speaking terms for awhile as far as I know, but I wondered if it was false and for revenge. The people I speak of have threatened to call before. There are other things going on with that besides the pot smoking, ect... But a love triangle with some guy the two ladies are bickering over <img text=" " alt=" " src="http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png">

Beth, it wasn't so much dinner/dates that I know of so much as stopping at her dealers to get high and buy pot. That bothered me way to much. I am not against pot per se but when you are coming to my house high to pick up your kid, I'm out! And for the little amount of time she actually had to spend with the baby in the evening because of babys' early bed time, then she would get baby sitters on the weekend so she could go out and party with her guy friend. I think think this could go either way. I will keep you all updated as I find out more of course!

you did a right thong. I didn't know thongs had a left and a right. It's new. Coming soon! Instead of going between cheeks it is going across right cheek and for lefties - across the left cheek.

It can become an issue. DH works for the court system that determines custody issues. If the mom is always farming the kid out with babysitters and relatives so that she can go party and she rarely actually sees the kid, it can be considered neglect, especially if the babysitters and relatives are not all that suitable and responsible, or if they can prove she wasn't providing adequate medical care (like not working out the formula issue). I doubt she would lose custody over that issue alone, but DH sees cases all the time where the baby's grandma is the primary babysitter to the baby and is granted custody if they can prove that mom is rarely around, especially if mom is also doing pot while she's gone.

And I got a text tonight wanting to know if I kept documentation about her kiddo because the CSP lady wants all the info she can get her hands on. Uhhhh, no! She told me she wasn't going to give CPS my info and I really don't want to be dragged into this PSA for all of you, do not, I repeat, do not babysit out of your house for a side job, it's gonna bit ya in the ass! Grrrrrr.... She did say however she should be able to find out who called on her. I am wondering if it's the neighbor or his wife.

Lol, I don't know! Maybe that's why she won't give them my info. I don't think she thinks things were that bad, but I would have to tell what I know. I know she loves her kid, I just don't know she knows how to be a proper parent. I know being a single parent is tough but there are certain things you have to give up for a while to make sure the kid is properly cared for and getting babysitters all the time (weekends, lots of them) so you can do as you please is not the answer.

That's a reason a lot of people won't call CPS now because they rat you out.

Although she did tell me it's not the first time someone has called and that time it was unfounded and there was no proof Ok then. I was surprised she told me that.

I've felt obligated to call DFS/CPS two different times, years apart, on different neighbors. I don't think either neighbor knew I was the one that called. Once, neighbors were drunk and physically fighting over an infant (maybe 3 mo old). One parent in the car with baby, the other outside car. Each had hold of an arm. Then the driver started backing up, and neither one let go. The windshield had already been smashed with a sledge hammer, while baby was in car (front seat). The other time, the single mother living next to us, left her 3 kids alone while she went to work. The oldest was 6 years old. Youngest was about 18 months. I stayed out of this, until the kids started coming over every day looking for food, cuz they were hungry (and filthy). I didn't prepare anything for them, so I know it wasn't cuz they didn't want to make something themselves. I would have preferred to stay out of it, in both cases. But I didn't embellish the story, so even if they found out I had called, I felt like both situations needed intervention. The kids deserved to be helped. If everything checked out, great. Sorry for the bother. You do, what you gotta do.

Holy $&%# toomuch! I would have called too! She isn't that bad, but she does seem to make some poor parenting choices. Maybe I will get a update from her this evening because CPS is supposed to go to the daycare today and observe.
