...procrasinating, sort of... *sigh* (I hate writing stuff.) UPDATE: Got most of my stuff done. Seems that, if I put in the work, I do great. If not, C's. For perspective, I used to kind of be disappointing in a A-. I managed a 4.0 last semester. Looks like I'll end up with at least one A-, if not 2 or 3. It doesn't really affect my overall GPA much at all though. I slacked off a lot the first time around. The 4.0 really boosted my ego, however, and I could use more of that.

Somewhat off topic, but we seem to be taking a lot of the same classes. I hope you're enjoying yours and learning lots!

Thanks. I hope you are enjoying your classes as well.
I am enjoying my ethics class - a lot. (I guess I'm a liberal arts person by heart--going into business to pay the bills.) My intermediate accounting professor is so funny, and his classes always end early, but he focuses just on the important stuff. It makes it so easy for me, while accounting usually makes me want to take a nap. If he were my teacher for my earlier accounting classes, I would be a CPA right now!

I'm a terrible procrastinator. I manage routine househod tasks by reminding myself that if I get it all out of the way, I get to have a "do nothing" day on one of my off days. Looking forward to having a day where I only have to do what I want to motivates me.
Beyond routine stuff, when I have a lot of things to take care of, I start with the quickest or easiest to get some momentum going. Big tasks, I try to break down into smaller tasks and do a little (or a lot, depending on the time frame) every day until I'm done.
I live by myself though so I can work uninterrupted.

I have started to wonder if I suffer from ADD, I remember just staring out of windows when I was in school, if I wasn't interested in something I would just avoid it. Made schooling very difficult for me.

Made schooling very difficult for me. I didn't have a terrible time in school, but I used to daydream a lot. I guess I still do...maybe it's ADD, I don't know. Nothing like the form of ADHD my brother has though!

So, it's Saturday night, and I'm practicing drunk accounting. Somehow, it's easier to do with a glass of wine...I don't get mad about how ridiculous it seems, but really, IFRS and GAAP? One isn't bad enough?? Got a big fat zero on my finance quiz Thursday. Funny thing is, I knew exactly what I was doing, but was making a mistake somewhere, so couldn't get the answer to match any of the choices. I wasted all my time trying to figure out what the heck I did wrong. Someone shoot me now! That was probably the one thing I best knew how to do in that class... Group project/paper due Tuesday. It's the new trend in college now--lot's of group projects. ) 1 out of 4 others have done their part. My part is a summary of everyone else's, so can't do much until others are done. I will be surprised if this doesn't prove to be a disaster...and I think it's worth 30% of my grade for the semester. Another homework cliff coming Thursday and then the following Tuesday. I'm just glad I'm almost done with this most horrible of semesters. Then, just 2 more classes in the summer and I'll be done (and hopefully, gainfully employed soon thereafter, of not before).

I have been procrasting a long time now and my family is on my case, presuring me. Today my brother and nephew brought me a room sized rug that had been my mom's. I wanted it but didn't come get it. They wanted to sell house so sent it to SIL's sister then she gave it back so it was in his garage. I finally got the floors good enough to put down the rug so told them my house was almost clean enough to have company they could bring it over. So they came brought rug and decided they are going to help me paint, next friday. So now my assignment is to get rid of stuff off mantle and anything small from room. They are coming to patch nail holes and get ready for painting. I was going to choose a color but they are going to get me the paint the same color as my brother's house interior. They will pick up the brushes, rollers, drop cloths and paint. I was busy thinking about painting and thinking about choosing color to match brother's interior it is sand color. They said I need to buy blinds too and get new chandelier, niece will pick it out.
I like procrastinating and they are ruining it, feeling pressured now, they want me to hire landscapers too. I was going to get around to painting and landscaping someday, now someday is sooner. They did appreciate how much empty I got from decluttering and told me to toss more stuff, pressure to sell extra stuff too.
I don't mind spending the money but really need deadlines to get started with these things.

One final hell week, and then finals. Tues: ethics assignment done. Acct. homework about 35% done. Case-- not even started Thursday is going to be hard. 2 presentations, one just a roundtable, so no prep. Powerpoint done for the other, should be short and easy. My nemesis of a class, on the other hand: 3 things due--term paper, case and article summary. Article summary is started, my husband got the research together for me for the paper, case not started. Did I mention that my mom is getting cataract surgery on Wednesday?

Yesterday my brother and nephew came and painted my living room and are coming next Friday to paint my dining room they are ruining my procrastination, I want to paint someday. My brother picked the color, used paint he had from his house so we match, it is called sand I think and it looked white but darkened when it dried. I don't like it, it is very plain I had a nice bright blue. I have a black and red 8X12 rug with a print so that will help and pictures on the wall will break up the plain.

Okay, procrastination, um I mean, cases, assignments and papers are all done. Woohoo! I can't believe I actually finished it all--actually with a little time to spare because all my professors have been letting class out early this week.
Now, on to studying for finals... One week from today, and things will be much better. Actually, it already is better.

It depends on whether we're talking about work, or about a list of things I need to do around the house.
Work: Unless there's clearly something with a much higher priority or much sooner due date, I'm doing the smallest thing first. I hate the mental state of having an overwhelming NUMBER of things to do, but don't particularly mind if I have a massive AMOUNT of work to do.
Home: I'm probably just doing whatever I would most like to do. I don't stress much about that stuff. It'll get done someday when I feel like doing it. If there's nothing on that particular list, then I'll work on something that has a lot of work to do that I know I can't finish...because knowing I can't finish in the time allotted makes me feel free to work as long as I please and stop when I please. I'm pretty laid back about the non-work stuff. I stress out too much about work to survive doing the same at home.

Work- I tend to work on the larger/pita projects first. When I get stuck, or need a break I set is aside and clear off some of the smaller things. Wash, Rinse, Repeat
Home- What ever is irritating me the most, gets done first.

I hated doing a million little things, but give me one big project and I would tear through it. For home, it seems like tackling the most annoying thing has been the most rewarding.

Halfway through finals now---I can see the finish line. Good luck grading the finals. I realized during my last group project/paper that I could never be an English teacher. My husband and I could barely read some of the other students' writing. Oh my! I hope your students are better writers than that. 2 of the students in my group are Japanese, but still, even the native-born Americans didn't write very well. (And I'm not the best writer, admittedly.)

Wash, Rinse, Repeat Home- What ever is irritating me the most, gets done first. This seems to be what has worked for me as well. My problem was, I was getting stuck right away. Fortunately, my last case turned out to be a breeze, which helped tremendously.

That's great Milizard! You're nearly there! Are you taking classes over the summer too?
Milizard, the vast majority of my students are French. Nuff said LOL. Grading essays is the only part of my job I really dislike.

Okay, 2 more finals to go. It would have been one, but I asked to change the date for the final-from-hell-to-be to Thursday instead of Monday. I have one A- in the bag. This one still kind of irritates me, as it should have been my easiest class. Due to strange point allocation, strange testing choices, and a group project worth no less than 30% of my grade, I needed to get 100% on my final to get an A instead of the A-. What is with this trend towards group projects? It always penalizes the strongest students. Unless you end up doing a much greater share of the work than you should, your grade will end up being lower than it should be for the level of work that you do. Only 1 out of 4 group projects I had on this back-to-school junket was satisfactory. The girl I was teamed with was a great writer, and when she hit a snag, we switched roles and truly split the work 50/50. I got an A in Int. Acctg. I was a bit worried about losing my A when I was done so quickly (I can rush through and make stupid mistakes sometimes--not a good trait for an accountant!), but ended up getting a 95. This wasn't a great personal accomplishment or anything, as I had taken this same class before, but its been probably 15 years... Ethics, I'm pretty certain to get an A, as I had 100% going in. Great class. Adv. Finance--this is the wild card. The professor doesn't like to update your grade on blackboard, so I have no idea what I have going in. Other finance class, I should get an A, maybe? I spend so much energy on the other class, this one kind of gets pushed to the side. Grades aren't everything, but I've been trying hard to bring up my GPA. I went back to my old college, so the cumulative score is based on a lot of up and down grades. I'm currently at a 3.3-something, hoping to bring it up to 3.4-something, as some companies actually look at that sort of thing.

Personally I'd just go with the 2 classes you need, and enjoy the additional downtime, especially over the summer. But I freely admit I have become lazier than I used to be.

So, my semester is finally over--hooray! One week off, and then it will only be one class to worry about, so it should be a piece of cake!
Now, if I can get my mom to wake up and get ready to go to the eye doctor, it will be even better...
If anyone ever gets cataract surgery in the future: be prepared for eye drops 4x a day and weekly follow up exams. Fun stuff!
