When we sold the 1998 BMW, we used a standard bill of sale form that we got off the internet. We did make sure that it read exactly like the bill of sale form we signed at the credit union a week before as we purchased the 2007 BMW.
Both clearly stated as-is. I think that is fairly standard with used cars. Of course, Alabama is a "buyer beware" state for all sales transactions including real estate.

It never occurred to you that I am surrounded by 100s of people on a daily basis and people like to talk to me and sometimes I am taking genuine interest about their problems and by asking here I am providing them sometimes with solutions to their problems and it is bad how, grumpma? You can also check my 'nosy' thread Obamacare tier 1,2,3 where I am up to my eyeballs helping a friend. Horrible, huh? When I have time I am always ready to help. Bite me!

That only covers purchases from dealers with a time limit of 30 days, I think. Did he buy it private party or from a dealer? lemon law ONLY covers NEW unit purchases
never on used there are other laws that cover used vehicles Depends on the state. Not only is there a lemon law for used cars in NJ there is also one for motorized wheelchairs. For some reason I can't post a link but it is on the NJ Dept of Law and Public Safety, Division of Consumer affairs, lemon law unit.

No I won't! If someone isn't nice to you then you don't have to be nice to them. Just maybe don't be meaner than they are or you'll get another vacation from here.

BTW just spoke with an owner. $11K cost of repair. And he bought it from person to person, no dealership involvement. Soo he is screwed.
Now what would you say he need to do? Sell it for paid price plus repairs cost or use it?

The guy at Lowes pointed out the language as I was buying my new washer. 2 repairs on the same part in the warranty period? I get a new washer. My guess is he has to inform people?

Is she the type that needs some passies to defend her? 2. Do people generally are happier to be stepped on then spit on? 3. Am I entitled to reply to someone's opinion as the other person who is expressing opinion? Well, work on those 3 while I'll think of something else to keep you busy with

For the record, I would rather have my toes stepped on than be spit on. I mean, given the inevitability of one or the other.

I don't think he'd have much luck getting $41k for the truck. Whoever is going to purchase it is going to expect Blue Book or lower. He can try to post it for that much and see if he gets any bites.
Is this for his job? If so wouldn't he then have to purcahse yet another big rig after selling this one? That'd be more sunk costs and he doesn't seem to have the best judgement when it comes to big rig purchases.
He's not going to come out making a profit. If the Rig is driveable then personally I'd use it, $41k is a lot to try and recoup.

If he spends $41k on a truck still worth $50k, he's still getting a good deal overall, unless there is more wrong with it.

Now what would you say he need to do? Sell it for paid price plus repairs cost or use itI don't think he'd have much luck getting $44k for the truck. It is $30K plus first repair of $5K plus second repair for $3600 plus $11K. It is a reg price for this type of truck. So maybe previous owner knew exactly what was a problem and sold with subtraction for repairs. Odd how these numbers exact match of the regular asking price.

Let's say he sells this truck and gets exactly enough to pay for the repairs he had to make: $49,600. (Which, let's face it, he won't). He now has to go out and spend that $50k on a truck at regular price, plus a new inspection and potentially new things to fix. Is this exchange a particular benefit for him?

It's very rare to get back exactly what you paid and what you put into something. Especially with things like vehicles, people expect you to haggle and give them a deal. The odds of him getting back all his money are pretty silm.
You can price what you sell for anything you desire, doesn't mean you'll get it. If he's really intent on selling he could list it for "full price" and see if he gets any bites. But he should have a "how low do I go" amount. He can't sit around forever waiting for someone to pay what he wants. He also has to factor in how much it's going to cost to get yet another big rig.
I still vote on keeping it b/c if it is worth $50k then he's ahead on the purchase. If he gets his $41k back but turns around and purchases a $50k rig then he's behind by $9k.

I am with both of you - keep the truck! At least he can hope 99% that $11K repair will not going to happen. I would talk to the repair mechanics to see if this vehicle worth dealing with or requires immediate selling. Well, it is me...man do not do logistic things

You know who'd have been a great person to talk to before buying a $30k truck with a million miles on it?
That mechanic.

You know who'd have been a great person to talk to before buying a $30k truck with a million miles on it? That mechanic. I supposed...but it was too far from me to deal with it. So the question now is as follows: if dealer giving you $17K - what does this truck really worth? Is there a book like kbb that tells you: Dealer's offer - $$ Real price - $$$ That would be a great book, right?
