A quick break from solving the worlds problems or at least knowing how to do so, just to bad no one listens to us. A friend sent me this today..I didn't know about it, possible others here are the same. ---------------------------------------------------------- People are getting really desperate due to the constantly rising gas prices. A friend just told me about something that happened to one of his coworkers.
She used her credit/debit card to purchase gas at the pump (like most of us do). She received her receipt like normal.
However, when she checked her statement, there were 2 $50.00 charges added in addition to her purchase. Upon investigation, she found out that because she did not press the 'clear' button on the pump, the employee inside the store was able to use her card to purchase his/her own gas!To keep this from happening, after you get your receipt, you must press the 'CLEAR' button or your information will be stored until the next customer inserts their card. Be sure to tell all your friends/family so that this doesn't happen to them. I had never noticed the clear button but I got gas the other day and sure enough it is there. I shall be using it from now on. Lower left corner

Good information, dez. Thanks. I don't think I've seen a "clear" button, but I'm going to look for one the next time I get gas!

Not to fret DEZI: There are two kinds of people in the world-those that have fallen for stuff like that and those that are going to. I know I have.

Dezi, after reading this, I think you should read your Li'l Abner story. You fell for the same thing described in your yarn.

A good lesson about emails (probably forwarded) from friends and family:
If an email starts with A friend just told me about something that happened to one of his (her)...
It is probably best to go to Goggle or some other search engine and copy and paste a sentence from the email into the search line. Make sure you put the sentence in parentheses so the search engine looks for those exact words in that exact order.
See what returns you get and look for anything from Snopes, Fact or Fiction or some other website that states is it a myth, hoax, or whatever.

Oh, lawdy! Thanks, guys! I could just see me poring over the gas thingy, looking vainly for a "clear" button. I kept picturing the thing in my mind and couldn't see a "clear" button anywhere!

palmbeachpaul-it helps being one of the biggest skeptics in the world when I hear anyone mention they received something in email which happened to a 'friend' of a 'friend' of a 'relative' of a 'co-worker's' 'friend'.
My favorite email I received from a friend was about the planet Mars in August of 2007 would be the closest it had ever been to Earth in like a bazillion years and would be as big as a full moon in the sky.
Think friend think about what you are sending-does it make sense to you?

In an unrelated story? I have had duplicate charges on a cc bill from a gas purchase. Luckily it was local and not during travel.
