It really depends on you, your kid, and the people you are going to be camping with. My best friend has an easy baby (now an easy 1 year old). She is perfectly happy to be put in her backpack when we go hiking (went to the ice caves this weekend, it was very treacherous, but awesome).
We almost camped with BFF's sister and her family/friends once for a baby shower, but changed our minds when we considered the company we would be camping with. Too many people crammed into one campsite with lots of alcohol (not responsible drinkers and BFF's husband is an alcoholic, 5 years sober). They were still drunk the next day at the baby shower and reports were no one got any sleep. Camping on our own with the baby would have been fine.

Don't forget that fresh air is wonderful for sleep! Unfortunately, it could mean her sleeping from noon-4 instead of midnight-4....how understanding would your companions be?
