Woot! It may not last long, but at the end of Day 3, at least, our little nation of 34 million is at the top of the medal standings. Go Canada!

I'm watching the Olympic coverage on the Canadian station out of Ottawa. So much better than NBC.

I'm watching the Olympic coverage on the Canadian station out of Ottawa. So much better than NBC. We were over at a friend's place on Sunday to watch the opening ceremonies since we missed them on Friday. She heads off for a while, so I find out how to work her DVR and select "Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies" from the menu, and it comes up with three shivering reporters talking about how controversial the games are, what with Edward Snowden and the huge price tag and Putin's gay rights snub and... My eyes go wide. My wife tells me to just skip ahead. So I do--through 6 minutes of commercials--then through about 10 more minutes of the reporters gabbing to each other. Just as I stop to assess what they're saying, the screen cuts to a two-way chat with Pres. Obama. My friend hears my tortured cry of "Noooooooooooooo! You recorded the wrong station." and she comes running back. She laughs and informs us that she recorded both the NBC and the CBC coverage of the opening ceremonies, so we happily switch over to the latter. And the CBC coverage wasn't mind-blowing or anything, but they were at least talking about the venue, the history, discussing who would be the torchbearer, giving a program description for the ceremonies, etc. Who in their right mind wants to tune into the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and sit through Pres. Obama reciting the party line, I don't know. NBC viewers, I guess. I have nothing against NBC, but I really gave up caring about them when they cancelled Law and Order.

We hosted the '88 Winter Olympics in my city.
We have a tower downtown (much like the CN Tower in Toronto). The tower was coincidentally the same shape as the then Olympic relay torch. A special gas valve was installed on the tower that could light a flame.
The tower "torch" burned for the 10 days of the Games here.
This year, the "torch" gets lit every time Canada wins a Gold. Here's a pic:

I am with Virgil on the NBC telecast. I flipped over to watch and got an interview with Obama. I thought I had switched to the wrong channel (old age and all that lol) After a few more tries to see an actual event I gave up. Just getting results online now.

I have a friend who loathes the NBC reporters during the Olympics sooooo hard. I kind of don't blame her. Wish we got the Canadian station to watch! Actually... DH probably wouldn't allow for it. Winter Olympics are the only time in life when he does not like Canada, sorry guys. He's a huge hockey fan and is waiting for 1980 to happen again in his lifetime. He still isn't emotionally ready for the men's hockey to start, he's going to be a basketcase! in 2010 when Crosby scored that winning goal.. he stomped into the bedroom and cried for a few minutes. Literally. At least the USA ladies are lookin' good so far, hopefully the men will be too!

So you're a Troll??!? I've been called that and worse. A man walks into a bar, orders a drink, and sits down next to Archie. He says to Archie, "You want to hear a good joke about accountants?" Archie replies, "I should warn you, I'm an accountant myself. I'm 6'5", 40 pounds heavier than you, and I was a college boxing champ. And that fellow over there is Tom. He's a colleague from work, also an accountant. He's 6'7", he has 60 pounds on you, and he won the state heavyweight boxing championship last fall. Do you still want to tell that joke?" The man gets a dismayed look on his face, turns away, and replies, "No. No, you're right. I wouldn't want to have to explain the whole thing twice."

Archie and his wife are attending a charity gala. Archie's wife introduces him to an acquaintance.
"Archie, this is Matt. Matt, this is my husband, Archie. He's an accountant."
Matt smiles politely and the two men shake hands. Matt says, "So you're a bean counter, eh?"
Archie quickly realizes that Matt is trying to trick him, trying to make him look foolish. But Archie is too sly for that.
Without missing a beat, he replies, "No, Matt. I can walk and talk and I'm round, so obviously I'm not a counter. And a bean would be much too small for a counter anyway. It has maybe one square inch of surface area? And beans aren't particularly counter-shaped either. Hence nice try, but you've failed to make me look foolish."
Matt looks down and replies sadly, "You're right. I just like poking fun at accountants. But please don't think I'm a troll."

what does coffee have to do with this? Coffee is to accountant jokes as trolling accusations are to Winter Olympics threads. A classic SAT question if ever there was one.

Hey Archie, I think Virgil also implied that you are a blonde accountant. This is a variation of a blonde joke

I think they have been great. I have enjoyed the ice skating...US got a gold in the ice dance pairs. Just been watching guys on skis doing somersaults down a snow covered pipe......US or Canada may have won can't quite remember. Opening ceremony was good on the bbc. Not too much talking...just explained what we were looking at. I liked all the Tchaichovsky..Swan lake and Firebird. and Vlad himself declared the games open.

Canada has just taken another couple of golds in the curling.... It was our best chance of winning but they were just awesome.

Both the Men's and the Women's teams took the Gold in curling. It is considered "Canada's Sport" (after Hockey, that is).
