I worked at an answering service. The overnight shift. It was all apt maintenance calls & body calls. We got to call the funeral homes to go pick up bodies. It was a trippy job. Me & one other person in a dark little smokey room in an unmarked strip center office in the middle of the night. I worked at an answering service too! Day and evening shifts, though. Doctors, real estate agents, a high-priced hooker named Lonnie (didn't hide what she did for a living), and a few celebrities (this was in LA). Billy Preston was one of our clients, and I still remember once hearing another operator, a Jamaican woman, saying, "Mick Jaggers? Mick Jaggers? Can you spell that please?"

when I went to Brazil I used a Travel agent. he booked me on three tours that I wouldn't have thought of doing as a plan. but maybe when I would have gotten their I would have signed up? also he arranged a taxi or guide to pick me up from the airport and bring me to the hotel and pick once it was time to leave. when I read travel agent - on second thought as an assistant I used to make flight arrangements for management all the time, then have to reschedule flights and make hotel reservations. so does that count me as travel agent? It's definitely a valuable skill for your resume. I consider travel agents to be, like most other service providers, a luxury for people who value more than price. Some people would rather save $70 and color their hair from a box, that doesn't mean hair stylists are obsolete or offer no value. Same with house cleaners, landscapers, photographers, accountants, etc... Some people like knowledge, experience, convenience, and a little extra security if something goes wrong.

As a 2nd job in the evenings I was the gift shop girl at a truck stop selling radar detectors, touch lamps, casette tapes & jewelry. I had to open the locked cabinets & show the merchandise. Think I still have a pair of harley earrings from there lol. Was in there recently & no more gift shop girl.
