Ruby
My general problem w/Walmart is how poorly the cashiers are trained. Sometimes they REFUSE to price match. Frequently they REFUSE to accept a coupon that makes an item FREE or a money maker. They ALWAYS refuse to pay out money from their drawer if I have several money makers.
I cannot tell you the number of times I have INSISTED on calling the store mgr on duty, waited 7-12 minutes for him/her, explained the issue(s) and been told I AM correct.
I end up getting VERY aggravated and vow NOT to shop WalMart. That lasts a while - not been in one in over a year now.

Marvholly, I do a LOT of price matching at Walmart. For instance, last month had I gone into Walmart and got everything on my list without price matching or using coupons, I would have spent $54.10. By price matching, I took it down to $25.62 and after coupons, my total OOP was $14.87.
This week my best cherry picking deals were 2 boxes of Mueller spaghetti for $.25 each after IPQ. At Kroger I got 5 bags shredded cheese, 4 taco seasoning packs, 1 box South Beach bars, 1 box rotini, 4 yogurts and 2 bags of Gorten fish for $5.41 after coupons, catalinas, freebie, and senior discount, saving $26.76.
At Walmart this week I got 1 pineapple ($.99), 1 lb. grapes (.99), 1 candle set ($1.00), 1 Maxwell House ($.99), 1 bread ($.69), 1 doz. eggs ($1.29), 1 bag onions ($.99), 2 boxes Raisin Bran ($2.00 each), 1 gal. milk ($2.69), 5 Philly cheese ($.99 each), 4 bologna ($.99 each), 4 shredded mozzarella ($.99 each), 1 Parmesan cheese ($3.49), 1 paper bowls ($.97) and 10 boxes protein bars for $14.12 after coupons and overage, saving $58.69. I was especially stocking up on the cheese deals this week and there are some good Kraft IPQ's that came out today which helped. Wow!!! That's great!!

Marvholly, I agree that some are poorly trained. I've been doing my price matching for quite awhile now. Most of them know that I price match about everything and they are pretty good about it. One time I knew they would question an item and I told them to look on page 5 of the ad so they knew I wasn't making it up. I try to keep all price matched items together to make it easier, and my shopping list always has the name of the store where the sale is right behind the item. And I try to be friendly and smile.

Ruby I go 1 step further when price matching: I actually circle the item on the competitor’s ad in BLACK marker. I actually did go to Jewel this week. They had 9 oz bags of Fresh Express spinach for $1 each and I had a coupon for $1.50 off 2 bags (=0.25/bag=0.08/serving). Also, I wanted some Chex mix ($1/bag) as my watching the Oscars treat, bought w/a coupon (0.50/2). Chicken Kiev was on sale for $1 = dinner.
My fav fruit/veg market had MUCH more on sale (of the things I like & regularly use) than was listed on the ad. Spent nearly 50% more than planned but who can resist 0.69 strawberries (I will cut & freeze at least 1 lb), 0.79 romaine hearts (whole were o.79 each), asparagus 0.89/lb, brussel sprouts 0.79/lb and leaf lettuce for 0.50 each. Filet of sole was still 0.79/4 oz portion.
REMINDER:
For those that qualify (like me), Tue 3/4 is senior discount day at WAG. Since I want the Maxwell House it can add up. Now I only hope the weather is not the pits but WAG is only ½ mi from me.
Strange but for several months I have been shopping WAAAY more at WAG than at CVS (no Rite Aid here).

Marvholly, did you print out the Maxwell House coupon on couponsdotcom?
I just looked at Aldi's ad and the only thing I will price match is the bananas at $.44 lb. Our other Aldi's ad comes out new on Wednesdays and their prices might be better. I was hoping for a good deal on vegetables this week.
I rarely ever buy zucchini since we grow it in our garden. Is $.99 lb. a reasonable price?
Hopetoberich, that's what I love about price matching too, saving money on produce.

Ruby I did print the Maxwell House coupon. That is part of the reason I am buying it. Also, I have read that there were issues w/the coffee growth/harvest this season.
I have been regularly buying zuchinni for 0.49/lb. Once in a while it gets a bit lower. if it is over that I generally wait a week or 2 and it comes back down. However, i do have 3 fruit/veg stores reasonably nearby. At the big chains I don't remember seeing it much below 0.99/lb.

Yesterday I got asparagus, flour, oil, yeast, 10 cans tuna, and 4 boxes Totino pizza rolls for $11.54. I had IPQ's for the pizza rolls and by price matching I got $1.00 overage on them. I also price matched the tuna, oil and asparagus. I won't be buying too much else this week as I will be using up what we have.
I used my Staples rewards to order 5 three-way lightbulbs. After using a 15% off promotion and my rewards, the total was $.49 and they ship free.
Marvholly, I envy your fruit/veg markets. That is where I work the hardest trying to get the lowest prices. This week Aldi has bananas on sale and that will be the only thing I will buy later on in the week.

I immediately went to look at my coffee stash. I stockpiled 26 lbs. of some really awesome gourmet coffee (@ $1.99/lb) and I mix it half and half with "less gourmet" (shall we say) grinds, so I am on the lookout at the GO for cheap coffee to mix it with. I am not completely out of the less gourmet types, but I have far more of the gourmet.

Here's a classic case of "if you don't ask, the answer is already 'no' ".I was in the GO and I noticed that they had Jimmy Dean sausage links (10 oz./12 links per pkg.) for $1.99. I looked at the "use or freeze by" date and it was 3 days away. Hmmm..... I knew they'd be gone before I would be back. Before I went to check out, I noticed a young man stocking in the same area where I saw the sausage. I asked him if they might reduce the price on the sausage since the date was only 3 days away. He said he would ask his manager and wanted to know if I would buy them all. "Of course!!" When he came back, I saw a the electronic tool in his hand that they use to mark stuff down. Yeah!! Victory!! So I was able to stockpile (9) packages of the Jimmy Dean sausage links for $.97/pkg. plus an additional 5% discount for being old. I think the regular price for the same product is $3.99 at Safeway. To even come close to the price I paid at the GO, the sausage would have to reach its last date of sale, be discounted 50%, AND I'd have to have (9) $1/1 manufacturer's coupons.....and we all know that that's not going to happen.

Today is the day that we will award vets scholarships in my dad's memory. It will be a good day.
I will be stopping at my sister's GO on the way home. Sometimes they have different deals than the ones I see at my GO.

I am trying to eat as much of this carp that Mom stocked up on before she decided she wasn't going to be hime half the time. Saving me on groceries, but I strongly disdain canned peas.

What is the Maxwell House deal at WAGS? It is on sale for $6.50 for the 30+ oz can and gives 1000 BR points. There is also an IP on coupons.com for $1.
Guess I cannot be too jealous of the Grocery Outlet prices when I get prices like these at my fruit/veg market. I was REAL happy w/the price of asparagus at my fav fruit/veg market last week (0.89) but I am even happier this week at 0.69. They also have buckwheat (kasha) on sale for 1.39/900 g (2 lb). That hit my need soon list about 10 days ago. As I recall I paid around $2, maybe a bit more as it is several years, for the same amount last time.

I just never know what is going to happen at the register at Safeway. I had gotten a $5/$20, looked at the ad and planned my trip. When the items started scanning I was watching the total and could tell that I was going to undershoot the $20, so I had a second container of coffee scanned so that my $5 would come off. The "switch" was with the Lays chips. I had a J4U price of $2.23/bag AND they are on ad B2G2 this week, but they scanned a lot cheaper than that. Anyway, here's what I got:
$ 13.76 (2) Folgers 33.9 oz. coffee (@ $6.88/can) $ 4.80 (8) Wavy Lays (I was down to my last bag for clam dip) $ 4.83 (8) Campbell's tomato soup ($.69/ea. minus J4U discount) $ 23.39 Subtotal - 5.00 $5/$20 J4U $ 18.39 Total
Without the $5/$20, I would have purchased the Wavy Lays and the soup anyway because of the prices. I was glad to see the coffee on ad to round out my scenario because I wanted to get a little more coffee before the price increase might go into effect.
As I look at my receipt for the chips I can see the following:
$ 34.32 (8) Lays - 17.16 Card Savings (50% off) - 12.36 J4U Personalized $ 4.80
It looks like they gave me a personalized price of $2.75 (which is higher than what I expected), but then they gave me an additional discount of 50% off the regular price on top of that. It's hard to really figure anything like this out after the fact, because as soon as you use some of your J4U discounts they disappear from your account.

If you play the WAGs bonus rewards points game and have the IP, the coffee comes out to about $2.25/lb. which is pretty darn good these days.

Heard that the equity firm that owns Albertson's (Jewel, Acme.....) just bought the still existing Safeway chain (less Canada -sold off, less Chicago-closed down). Guess that leaves west & southwest stores.

I made a couple of quick stops yesterday at Rite Aid and Walmart. I got 2 dozen eggs at Rite Aid for $.18 OOP after using $3.00 UP reward. At Walmart I got over $10.00 in overage buying 8 boxes of protein bars, 4 Equate panty liners, 4 rolls of Bob Evans sausage, 2 lbs. bacon and a bunch of bananas. I price matched bananas @ $.39 lb., sausage @ $3.00 lb. and bacon @ $2.29 lb. My total there was $7.22 OOP.
I will be getting $50.00 in UPs next week at Rite Aid when transferring prescriptions and hope to stock up on paper products and some food items. Their food items are slim pickings, but they do have bottles of olive oil.

Guess that leaves west & southwest stores. Hmmm.....wonder what that will mean in the future as far as shopping at Safeway is concerned. I don't shop there nearly as much as I used to because most of the great deals have quantity limits so there is not much opportunity to stockpile there as there used to be. The only thing that has been getting me in the door is J4U $5/$20s. If they give me one of those, I scour the ads and my J4U deals to see if I can cobble something together to make use of it. A couple of times, I've had to just let it go. I am not going to spend $15 OOP on high priced items just so that I can save $5. I can't remember the last time I bought anything at Nob Hill, which is the other major grocery chain where we live.

Every time the Home Improvement GC deal is offered, I do it on my card, DH's card, and DS's card. That gives me $60 in UPs to spend. It was easy when I was stockpiling non-perishables, but last Christmas I had a heck of a time finding "efficient" ways to spend them. The next time the HI GCs will be offered will be around Father's Day (if RA follows the same MO). I will do the deal, but spending the UPs will be more work than fun.

Hi all! I haven't been doing much hounding but I had some fun this week spend my Staples rewards. I needed some binders for the kids as well as toilet paper. So I saw some really pretty 3 ring binders and poly pocket folders on clearance as well as picked up a 20 pack of scott toilet paper. After rewards it cost me $0.63 cents and they shipped it for free.

Dancin, I agree that the food items at Rite Aid are expensive even with my 20% discount. If no one else has eggs on sale, I can get mine there for $1.59.
Beachbum, I got my lightbulbs shipped the other day from Staples. I should have $18.00 more in rewards at the end of the month.
My latest Walmart trip was getting 4 Equate liners, 4 cans Progresso soup and 1 Wesson Oil 48 oz. and paid $.55 OOP after price matching, coupons and overage.

Kohls is having huge seasonal clearance right now, with an additional 25% off clearance items, plus 15, 20 or 30% with your kohls card. I was there with a couple returns today and wasn't planning to shop, but found some great deals. I got 2 pair of jeans, 1 pair of pants, 1 pair capris, 1 shirt and a bra. I had $9.xx in merchandise credit and after that and discounts, I paid $19.xx for everything!

I think I did decent today on a pair of deals I did at the grocery store-
I had 2 $1 off a purchase of $5 or more for frozen potatoes and another for appetizers. I don't usually treat myself to this stuff because of price. However, the grocery store had 2/$5 sales on both, so I got them 2/$4 after coupons. Original prices varied from 3.69- 5.99

mizbear News stories say there are NO plans to close any stores. However, I believe that about as much as I do in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy & the Easter Bunny. NOTE: I am old enough to collect full soc benefits & am Jewish - kills all 3.
Today & Wed are going to be stay home & process all the GREAT deals I bought on Mon; chicken leg quarters (0.49/lb), strawberries (3lb/$1), asparagus (0.69/lb)……….I also need to run 2-3 loads of laundry and really should organize my freezer. That does NOT count vacuuming or dusting or cleaning the bathrooms. I am already tired just thinking about all of these chores.

YEAH!! I checked DS's J4U account (Safeway) and he FINALLY got a $5/$20. I have been waiting and waiting for him to get one. I decided not to buy anything on his account to see if they would finally break down and give him one and it worked. Now I have to find a great way to use it before 3/25.
I usually wait to buy anything at Safeway until I get one of these. If I hadn't gotten any last week (which I did), I still would have purchased Campbell's Tomato or Chicken Noodle soup for $.69/can and maybe one jar of Ragu for $1.19, but that would have been about it.
I sure hope that they keep giving them to my mom, me, and DS. They are the only thing that really allows me to stockpile much of anything at Safeway.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I needed to buy a baby gift on Monday so I did my Grocery Outlet shopping then instead of today, Wednesday, when I get an additional 5% off. I decided that I might as well as my 5% savings probably would not cover the gas to go back today. I snagged broccoli for $.79/banded cluster of 3 huge stalks. I also snagged an 8 oz. pkg. of mushrooms for $.99, 15 oz. jars of Herdez Black Bean dip for $.77/ea., and 2 lbs. of Kraft singles for $2.99. So this week will be a cheap week for me for groceries - $7.85 spent. I love those weeks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a 30% off at Kohl's for the baby gift. I got 2 really cute outfits (one on clearance) and a book and stuffed animal (a character in the book) for $25 including tax. The normal price would have been $52 (but who would ever pay that!!) We are going over the hill to take DSis out to lunch on Friday and will stop at her larger Kohl's for some shirts for DH that they don't carry at our Kohl's but that are at hers. I have been waiting for a 30% off to buy them. I thought they carried all the same stuff, but apparently they don't. Hopefully they will be on sale or on clearance.
