www.businessinsider.com/9-lies-about-fat-that-destroyed-the-worlds-health-2013-111. A low fat, high carb diet is the optimal human diet. Bottom Line: There is no evidence that low-fat diets have any benefits. They do not cause weight loss in the long-term or reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Some studies show that they may even cause harm. 2. Cholesterol Rich Foods (Like Eggs) Are Bad For You (not 'heart healthy', related to heart disease, etc) Bottom Line: Eggs were demonized because of the high amount of cholesterol, but new studies show that they don't raise cholesterol in the blood or contribute to heart disease. Eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. 3. Your Total and LDL Cholesterol Levels Are Good Indicators of Heart Attack Risk Bottom Line: Total and LDL cholesterol levels are actually quite poor markers of heart disease risk. Many people are being unnecessarily medicated because doctors tend to focus on these numbers. 4. Processed Seed- and Vegetable Oils Are Healthy Bottom Line: Processed seed- and vegetable oils are very unhealthy, loaded with Omega-6 fatty acids and trans fats that can contribute to disease. 5. Saturated Fat Raises Your Bad Cholesterol and Causes Heart Disease Bottom Line: Despite decades of anti-fat propaganda, saturated fat has never been proven to cause heart disease. In fact, saturated fat improves some of the most important risk factors for heart disease. ...and 4 more (to some) stunning revelations about fat

My Dad had GREAT numbers for total cholesterol & LDL. Yet, he needed a triple bypass.
To try & help him, Mom had switched his butter to corn oil margarine years ago. I still wonder if that contributed to his heart blockages.

It had never made sense to me that eggs raised cholesterol, so we've never gone off them, even after DH's bypass. He eats them every day. Our cholesterol levels are fine.

The low fat high carb diet of the 90's was disastrous for me. I gained about 50 pounds, I was hungry all the time, I stopped having my period. My cholesterol was up to 300. Found out I have polycystic ovarian disease and am insulin resistant, so that is the worst diet for me.
I know generally eat lower carb amdmy cholesterol is back to normal.

I switched over to egg beaters and hope my other efforts balance my cholesterol and lower the overall score. After reading the side effects, I will not take statins.
I restarted fish oil and flax seed oil. I do feel more energetic and mentally alert. I switched to I Can't Believe It's Not Butter when I became lactose sensitive. I seldom use it except in mashed potatoes or other recipes calling for butter.
I read the labels for Cholesterol count because this issue is not new for me. Oatmeal always comes up when cholesterol is mentioned. I ate so much of it that I got tired of it.
A nutritionist told me to eat beans to balance the cholesterol. I should have done that the two weeks before my blood test. I'll try it out on the next one.

My dad ate the worst diet you could imagine. His cholesterol was super low for 30 years. Then, he had a heart attack, and his cholesterol tested super high.

I have to agree with you, but I also think that processed foods are very bad for us. My husband I were shopping today our cart consisted of dairy, whole milk, vegetables, some fruit, eggs, and yogurt about $40 worth. There was a cake mix and some chips that were not healthy but we do eat some things like that.
For example dinner was homemade spaghetti sauce and homemade meatballs some items I grew and canned. I used the rest of the bread I baked from unbleached, unadditized flour. We also had a fresh salad.
I can foods from my garden, buy none GMO products as much as possible, just bought half a hog from a grower that has organic meats. Also get beef from them and now fresh eggs. They have lamb but I'm not much into it.
I do use bacon grease at times for flavoring and we like fried potatoes, and cabbage. I know many people don't agree.
My husband and I don't have high blood pressure, LDL and HDL cholesterol is good. Our daughter is flirting with some issues but I believe hers is a lot of other issues plus lack of exercise. We are both slightly overweight but at age 67 I think we are pretty healthy. We both have blood work done often so we are ok.
1. We do try to steer clear of processed foods- though 'processed' is often just that and nothing to be unreasonably feared. If I make salsa at home it's just as 'processed' as the stuff from the jar minus a few preservatives. 2. If people 'disagree' they don't have to eat at your house. I use bacon grease, lard, and coconut oil- I NEVER use vegetable oils. Don't even buy them. Speaking of 'processed' - the things they do to extract oil from things like corn and canola can be pretty gross- it's not, as many presume, a process achieved exclusively by machinery like a press- chemical additives are used as demulsifiers. People that disagree can keep their veggie oil, I'll take the grease.

I posted a list of sugar- by many, many other names. Apparently too many names to re-post, so I'll post an excerpt and you can look it up at the link-- it's roughly 25% of the list... www.cbn.com/cbnnews/healthscience/2012/april/the-sweet-life-costing-americans-body-and-wallet/Here is a list of sweeteners to help you identify sugar in products: • Agave (this is like sugar - a fructose, glucose mix. Often higher on fructose rather than glucose) • Amasake • Aspartame (Equal, Nutrasweet) AS • Ace-K (or Acesulfame potassium) AS • Barley malt • Barley malt syrup • Beet sugar • Cane juice • Cane sugar • Carbitol • Carmel coloring • Carmel sugars • Concentrated fruit juice • Corn sweetener • Corn syrup • Cyclamate AS • Dextrin • Dextrose (very common in meat products> • Diglycerides • Disaccharides • D-tagalose • Erythritol AS (Sugar Alcohol) • Evaporated cane juice (just a fancy name for sugar)
