Things seem to be really hitting the fan in Libya and I feel that it looks like a lot of s will be happening this week and beyond so I am starting a thread, Libya alone, as the other had to many links to Egypt that might make it harder to follow for those interested in the latest. Will post happenings here as they arise. ---------------------------- www.debka.com/article/20691/----------------------------------------------------------- "Libyan fighter jets, helicopters land in Malta. Qaddafi's rule may be breaking up DEBKAfile Special Report February 21, 2011, 7:23 PM Feb. 21. Libyan Air force fighter jets and helicopters carrying political elite and business figures out of Tripoli started landing on the Mediterranean island of Malta opposite Libya – so far, two Mirage fighter-bombers and a number of civilian helicopters. Government officials in Valetta said more flights are on their way, but declined to say whether the airmen were defectors or the civilians had asked for political asylum. Monday, crude oil prices shot up 5 percent." ------------------------------------------------------------ "ammar Qaddafi has not been seen since Saturday, Feb. 19. He is thought to have gone to ground deep in the Sahara to muster loyalists to fight for him in the civil or tribal war ahead. He has many billions of dollars stashed away, ready to spend on building a private army from the soldiers who go back to their tribes after the national armed forces disintegrate. There are no signs that Qaddafi means to follow in the footsteps of the Tunisians and Egyptian presidents and obey popular demand and quit." ----------------------------------------------------------------- {click on link to read article}

Interesting to me that the media is not going as crazy over this one as Egypt. Are we not able to get reporters on the ground there? It sounds worse than Egypt so far, with all the open firing on protesters, etc. I'm getting used to all this now. It's so widespread now it is almost easier to ask who is NOT at war with their gov't over there? Yeah, Libya seems to be taking a turn toward real civil war.

I think thats it Krickett..going to turn on the telly, { I so love that word} see if anything on it but it you read the article, looks like a real civil war...whats with that family, Gaddafi's. a 42 year run..go already...some one really should shoot the SOB , and the sons if they keep on, for what he/they is going to cause these people ... 42 years...step down, go , what ever...but LEAVE. They just announced the Libyan fighters and helocopters landing in Malta and travel warnings to Americans. Debka site ahead of the curve here...

Could be it takes a long, long time before people are more angry at living the way they live than they fear facing down a machine gun or fighter jets........

Having grown up in a military family and lived close to military bases my whole life, I can tell you first hand, large military weaponry and war machines are quite daunting. I'm extremely thankful I've never been on the receiving end of their live ordinance.

I bet, Yank. Just driving through the AFB here scares me. That's why I don't support a draft. Some people should not be military. No wimps allowed. www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=TX-PAR-SUS19&show_article=1Libyan airspace closed over Tripoli: Austrian Army Feb 21 04:00 PM US/Eastern The airspace over the Libyan capital Tripoli has been closed until further notice, said a spokesman for the Austrian Army, which sought to evacuate European nationals from Libya on a military plane. That's all. Just one line. So, no one in, no one out. People are stuck there now. I'm so glad I am an American.

Fox just reported Gadafi went on TV for about 4 seconds to say he is not in South America , don't believe the rumors, in Libya and that was it. Think he is losing it.

Latest from Libya..seems Gadafi's is losing control, but lots of violence.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110222/ap_on_re_af/af_libya_protests------------------------------------------------------------- ".Gadhafi's hold on Libya weakens in protest wave . By SARAH EL DEEB and MAGGIE MICHAEL, Associated Press Sarah El Deeb And Maggie Michael, Associated Press – 18 mins ago CAIRO – Deep cracks opened in Moammar Gadhafi's regime Monday, with Libyan government officials at home and abroad resigning, air force pilots defecting and a bloody crackdown on protest in the capital of Tripoli, where cars and buildings were burned. World leaders were outraged at the "vicious forms of repression" used against the demonstrators. The mercurial leader appeared on Libyan state television for less than a minute early Tuesday to dispel rumors that he had fled. Sitting in a car in front of what appeared to be his residence and holding an umbrella out of the passenger side door, he told an interviewer that he had wanted to go to the capital's Green Square to talk to his supporters, but the rain stopped him. "I am here to show that I am in Tripoli and not in Venezuela. Don't believe those misleading dog stations," he said, referring to the media reports that he had left the country." ----------------------------------------------------------- {Click on link to read article}

www.skynews.com.au/topstories/article.aspx?id=580641&vId=Influential Muslim cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi has issued a fatwa that any Libyan soldier who can shoot dead embattled leader Muammar Gaddafi should do so 'to rid Libya of him.' 'Whoever in the Libyan army is able to shoot a bullet at Mr Gaddafi should do so,' Qaradawi, an Egyptian-born cleric who is usually based in Qatar, told Al-Jazeera television. He also told Libyan soldiers 'not to obey orders to strike at your own people,' and urged Libyan ambassadors around the world to dissociate themselves from Gaddafi's regime. Famous in the Middle East for his at times controversial fatwas, or religious edicts, the octogenarian Qaradawi has celebrity status in the Arab world thanks to his religious broadcasts on Al-Jazeera. He has in the past defended 'violence carried out by certain Muslims.' The West accuses the cleric of supporting 'terrorism' because he sanctioned Palestinian suicide attacks in Israel. Britain and the United States have refused to grant him entry visas. The cleric, spiritual leader of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and longtime resident of Qatar, heads the International Union for Muslim Scholars.

Here we go, again, with the Muslim Brotherhood... spreading, spreading... www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2011/02/20/2011-02-20_egypts_ayatollah.htmlMuslim Brotherhood godfather Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi is troubling face of Egypt's possible future In January 2009, he told Al Jazeera, "I will shoot Allah's enemies, the Jews, and they will throw a bomb at me, and thus I will seal my life with martyrdom." The same month, he called on God to "kill them, down to the very last one." In July 2007, at a conference held in his honor in Qatar, he said: "I support Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah. I oppose the peace that Israel and America wish to dictate ... I support martyrdom operations." In 2001, Qaradawi issued a fatwa legitimizing suicide bombings; it is posted on Hamas' website. In a 2003 fatwa, he authorized the use of women in suicide attacks. He also justifies killing apostates and gays.... MORE

If Qaddafi goes the way of the Ceauºescus, it could spark off even more uprisings throughout the Middle East.

Latest today, ...Gadafi not out, actually may be regaining the edge to overcome the uprising... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ www.debka.com/article/20694/-------------------------------------------------------------------------- As his regime crumbles, Qaddafi tightens his grip with tribal, army backing DEBKAfile Exclusive Report February 22, 2011, 1:22 PM Libya Qaddafi Tripoli "after two pilots defected to Malta, the 22,000-man strong Libyan Air Force with its 13 bases is Muammar Qaddafi's mainstay for survival against massive popular and international dissent. debkafile's military sources report that 44 air transports and a like number of helicopters swiftly lifted loyal tribal militiamen fully armed from the Sahara and dropped them in the streets of Tripoli Monday, Feb. 21. Qaddafi had mustered them to fill the gaps left by defecting army units and the large tribal militia which went over to the people. One of the ruler's sons, Mutassim Qaddafi, is in command of the Tripoli crackdown. Air Force planes, mostly from the Libyan Air Force's inventory of 226 trainers, and helicopter gunships, bombed and fired heavy machine guns to scatter every attempt to stage a rally in the city's districts. In their wake, Mutassim's "Libyan Popular Army" cleared the streets of protesters. The tactics employed by Qaddafi and his sons was, first, to give the protesters free rein to rampage through the city, torch state TV and government buildings and so generate an impression among them and in the West that the Qaddafis were about to fall. But when the demonstrators fanned out to seize the rest of the capital, they were bombed from the air and targeted by the tribal militias, who had no qualms about shooting directly at civilian crowds" ----------------------------------------------------------- {click on link to go to article}

Scary stuff. Well, he did say a few days ago he would fight until the last bullet, or something like that. I do not believe this guy is leaving peacefully. Hey, Dez, did you know he ran Osama Bin Laden off a while back? I'll see if I can find a link to that.
