bsbound, she didn't. we were more focused on addressing the immediate spikes than anything else yesterday. I do plan to ask when I head in on Monday.
you're not the first to ask me that, and I'm curious about that myself. knowing that my anxiety caused the majority of the massive spikes (as evidenced by watching the readings fall almost 20 points in 20 minutes while I was sitting there talking it all out with the dr) I'm comfortable saying that paleo isn't the only cause.
what I am guessing now is that if you look at the things I removed from my diet (rice and pasta fillers for chicken/veggie meals) and dairy (milk's been shown to lower BP, would have to dig up the links for that) and what I replaced them with - way more meats than I would normally eat, either paleo-friendly marinated or dry seasoned with things that were likely a lot saltier than homemade chicken stock-based sauces I would normally use. if my BP was elevated anyway*, paleo might have bumped it up enough that a medical freak out would throw me over the top.
lots to think about though, that's for sure. I think if I continue to focus on clean eating, minimal processed stuff - and yes, that includes last night's "cheese" sauce on my broccoli potato - that I'll still be doing right for my body in the long run.
*which is why we're going to baseline it for a couple weeks to see where I really am.

I'm in for the core challenge, of course! Iggy- I love the idea of having the workout over in the morning... but every morning workout I've had has been complete halfassed. I just can't make it happen. So, evening workout it is!

Also, tell me about the bridges you did. Do you mean you pushed up into full bridge? I don't even know if I can do that anymore...

I'm in on the core challenge!
chiver- Like any diet, Paleo won't work for everyone and even though usually it would provide extra nutrients to help lower blood pressure, It just may not be for you
I am jumping back in full blast with everything tomorrow- using the snow to finish stuff here before all of my classes start full force

I'm in for the core challenge. I can add in pieces here and there to do the challenge on here. Here is my workout plan for tonight (day 8) 90 squats 70 crunches 20 leg raises 32 seconds plank I might try to add in a workout from hasfit.com too. They have different plans that I might look further into after this first challenge is done for me. The last day of this challenge has me doing 240 squats, 180 crunches, 85 leg raises and 95 seconds plank... we shall see how that works out...

Just wanted to say thanks ladies - this thread keeps me motivated! I wasn't feeling a workout at all tonight, but then I didn't want to post that I didn't work out at all when I'd planned to. So I made myself get on the treadmill again tonight - woo hoo!

sarcastic - I was using bicycle crunches and oblique crunches interchangeably. I actually like the bicycles better. And as far as prone cobra, you lay facedown on the floor with your arms down next to you and then lift your torso like a cobra rearing up. At the same time, raise your legs and point your toes. Hold. It's easy. Ish.
Mizbear - I won't forget you again!
My core challenge today: 26 crunches 26 bicycles (on each side) 26 second plank 26 second prone cobra 26 bridges
Then I went and swam 2400 yards. I am super not-hungry, but am drinking a shake anyway because it seems like calorie intake would be important after that.

I had a rough morning while I was out trying to walk my dogs. My big dog was attacked by a dog off leash. They fought for a while though no damage was done (to my dog at least not sure about the other), but I did fall down in the process and my back hurts a little.
Walking the dogs has been my form of exercise lately and it is good for my dogs. We usually go 2-4 miles at a time. Now I am afraid to walk them alone again. I am still upset about it. I had planned to go out for 3 miles today, but we probably only got a mile in.
I think my only choice is to start walking them at 5:30 in the morning again before other people are out.

I'm a little late to the party but, Chiver I'm so glad you're doing better. Thankfully it sounds like it may not be anything too serious and stopping the paleo will straighten you back out. I agree with bsbound, just track your calories and you will make it work. In the meantime, take it easy for a few days. Bsbound, sarcastic, acemom, mizbear - good luck on the core challenge! I think it's a fantastic idea! I'm going to watch this one from the sidelines though.....at least for now. If I keep plugging along I will definitely join you later in the year. bobosensei - -hug-I really have no words for you. Truly I don't. If that had happened to me, I would have been so terrified, and angry, and upset beyond belief. I know you must be a complete nervous wreck, because I would be. Thank goodness your furbaby is ok. I do the same as you and walk my dogs as my form of exercise too. And they love it so much. I am just so d@mn heartbroken for you!!! And angry at stupid people who let their dogs wander around off leash like that The only thing I can think of that may be semi-constructive at this point is, is there a different route you can walk? More for you. In other news, I did walk my boys yesterday. So I am at 2 out of 3 walks for the week. One more to go, and I'm thinking Thursday will be the day for it. I've done really well at decreasing my sodium intake so it looks like I will make my goals for this week. Keep going ladies, you are all doing AWESOME!

bobosensei - I'm sorry that happened. Maybe some pepper spray would make you feel safer?
Way to go Marion!
Well, I'm really disappointed. Still no change on the scale. Still 9 lbs away from the caribbean. I know I am getting thinner, but I'm not losing any weight. And unfortunately my challenge is weight-based and I'm running out of time. I think I'm actually building too much muscle - it's the only thing that makes sense given the loss in inches and the stubborn scale. Trying to decide between three options to help me lose more: 1) Drop down to circuits/weights 1x a week (until after Feb 28, when I can do what I want). Would replace circuits with a short (20-30 min) cardio session to keep me active on those days. 2) Keep circuit/weight program at current rate of every 3 days, but cut down from a 60 min workout to a 20 min workout. 3) Stop eating. Not a serious option but I'm pretty upset right now and this seems like a semi-valid choice.

bobosensei- How terrifying. I walk my dog daily (though it is currently too cold for him to do much more than a quick trip outside for his business) and can't even imagine! Last summer I did have an off leash pit bull come running at us full steam ahead. It terrified me because my dog HATES other dogs and I knew that if the dog got close enough, my dog would attack him... and if the pit bull fought back, my dog would be toast! I picked my dog up (he's 28 pounds) and luckily the pit bull was friendly and just wanted to play. a passer-by helped me chase the off leash dog away so I could put my dog back down. It rattled me and that fear of the possibility of a dog attack made me tear up! So I can't even imagine how horrible that was for you! I am glad you and doggers are okay!!! is there a different route you can take, or like BSB said, some pepper spray... or something? Can you report the off leash dog? Where I live there are leash laws.
BSB- it sounds like the weight training is the culprit. I know in the past... I have lost more inches while weight training/body weight workouts and the scale stood still. It sucks that the challenge is weight based (I'm facing the same problem with dietbet- and plan to get the weight training rolling on Feb. 1st when the challenge is over) I'm losing consistently with cardio and very little weights (but I don't feel like I'm shrinking much) So for the sake of the numbers- that might be the way to go.
TCU- Way to go! sometimes just knowing that you have to report "I didn't work out" is enough to get your booty to workout! great job!!

So, miraculously... I am down another pound on the scale. 7.6 so far this month with 1.5 left to go by Feb. 1st.
4 years ago, I decided I wanted to be in better shape, my wedding was coming up and what better motivation than being cute in a dress? for 6+ months I worked my butt off, tracked food, took the dog on interval runs dearly daily, did weight training, etc. I lost about 12 pounds total and 1 size. in six freaking months (I am no small girl either). when winter came, I got horrible seasonal effective disorder and gained almost 30 pounds. I also cried- a LOT- for no reason... it was that bad. For the last 3 years, I have been bouncing around withing a 10-15ish pound range. Last year, my Dr. put me on meds for a metabolic disorder and losing weight has been easier... but I guess I've been holding myself back from really putting forth effort with the fear that it wouldn't work and I'd work my butt off only to lose 12 pounds in 6 months. But this year, I've really put forth effort. 22 days in and I've gotten 10000+ steps all but 2 days this month. half of the time i'm between 12000 and 15000, which is no small feat when you can't do much walking outside. I've lost more weight in 1 month that I ever have before. I know my medication is working and I am now down to the lowest weight I've see in 3 years... and 12 pounds away from where I was when I got married. I still have a ways to go after that. Maybe another 25-30 pounds and then I will reevaluate and decide. But it really seems possible to hit my goal this time. And it certainly helps having you ladies there to inspire and push!

Congrats Sarcastic! That's a great story!! I am slowly moving towards exercising - I feel like a slug compared to you guys, but I'm waiting on the treadmill and I live in the midwest also- so going outside has not been easy lately! But I will!
So I'd like to get a pedometer. Nothing too fancy - $25 or less. Any suggestions?

Missk....I use and love the Omron HJ-112. Amazon has it for a little under $28. Throughout the years I've had many, and didn't like them. This one you can throw in your pocket if you want. The others I had would reset themselves if I sat. (I think sitting pushed buttons)
you should really get one. You'll be surprised at first by how little you walk. 10,000 steps isn't so easy to fit in a day!
