onward and upward for me. I really want to have the $10,000 saved at least by the end of my birth month. My main goal is to not put anything else on any of my CCs. I have been VERY bad about that I will not make any excuses. I'm just going to go forward.

Nalto- I love your 'Seahawk' picture! I take it you are a Seahawk fan? I became a fan when I met my husband. I think we are among the very few fans in Ohio. GO HAWKS!!!!!

Hi all! Can I join in on the fun?? So I just put together some preliminary savings goals. I'm comfortable with using them for the year. I've got overarching goals they play into, some of which I've already put away some money for over the last year or so (house!). I'm also racing down some pretty significant debt (hello student loans!), so this may be a little on the ambitious side. I'd like to think that once I set goals for myself, I'm pretty good about sticking with them though. As far as my savings strategy goes, I'm mostly going to rely on automatic transfers. Some I've set up from my checking accounts to my savings accounts, my 401k gets taken directly from my paycheck, and I'm planning on using some of my tax refund to reach my goals (specifically the house goal). Anything extra after my bills are paid/savings transferred will also be going toward that particular goal. I think that should even give me some breathing room (maybe). Once my debts are paid down I can be more aggressive with my savings goals, but I don't foresee that happening until 2015 unfortunately. idlechatter: 01/22/2014 $685.00 (01/01/2014 $0.00 / Goal $11,500, WIRS3) Account | Goal | Starting Balance | Contributions | Current Balance | Percentage Saved | Car | $1,400.00 | $0.00 | $10.00 | $10.00 | 0.71% | House | $5,000.00 | $0.00 | $200.00 | $200.00 | 4.00% | 401K | $4,500.00 | $0.00 | $375.00 | $375.00 | 8.33% | Christmas | $600.00 | $0.00 | $100.00 | $100.00 | 16.67% | Totals | $11,500.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $685.00 | 5.96% |

My saver's race is going to slow down even before I really started. I just found out this morning that both of my sons need braces very soon- to the tune of about $7000. Needless to say, I don't have that kind of money so we will have to make monthly payments the the Orthodontist, probably about $250-$300/month!!! I have not idea where we are coming up with this money. It's always something. If I didn't have bad luck, I would have no luck at all.

Nalto- I hope you don't mind that I copied your idea of using a Seahawk logo for my profile image. I thought it was such a great idea. My previous image was a view of the ocean from First Beach which DH & I had visited a number of years ago. It's close to Forks, WA if you are familiar with that area- I don't know where you are from. GO SEAHAWKS!!

Serious this time, 1/31/2014, $6,302 (1/1/2014, $0, goal $51,258) Hi Savers. I'm pretty sick of all the snow and cold temperatures we're getting. So far it doesn't seem to be affecting my utility bills more than the usual amount for this time of year. Wish I could say the same for my friends in the Northeast. I heard one of them filled up his oil tank three weeks ago for $900, and now it needs to be filled up again. That's crazy! One benefit of all the cold and snow is that I don't want to venture outside unless I have to. That's saving a bit of cash right there.

nalto 2/4/14 $2,711.06 (1/14/14 $1,961.06 / Goal $20,000)
Just added to my Roth, so that should do it for February, unless my tax return comes in. It's a quiet month, as I only got paid for about 10 days in January because we switched to a bi-weekly pay schedule. (I use YNAB, so everything I earn in one month gets budgeted in the next month, ie, Feb isn't much.) I'll be working a few evenings and weekends this month, so hopefully that'll boost what I can save in March!
Go Seahawks and happy saving everyone!
