Yeah, my Christmas cards are still sitting in the box. They are so cute too.
I'm really not upset about DD not having "enough", it is the fact that I bought something and I don't have it. That exact thing happened to me a few months back at Kohl's. I went back to the store and explained what happened....they gave me a gift card for the amount of the item...great customer service. * Insult to another poster removed. - mmhmm, Administrator Kohl's across town from my office and the opposite side of town as my house. Running over at lunch is an ordeal when I went there on lunch yesterday I had a hard time finding a parking space. I have an appointment to get my hair cut tomorrow during lunch. I don't have the receipt today. It is just a deal. I'm just out of time to get work done, get Christmas done, get everything done. I just got screwed out of my lunch today - the place next door I ordered from didn't get my order in the computer. I was waiting 10 minutes when I got there (after waiting the 15 minutes it was suppose to be ready). I walked out crying. I just want something simple to work out the way I had planned. You know like my lunch being ready (or close to ready).

I thought I had started early and would be ready with everything, but yeah...didn't happen. I'm thinking of putting in reminders in my phone for next year. Like 11/1--order Christmas cards. Black Friday--mail christmas cards, etc. I still need to get another gift for ds, and something trinkety for the in-laws (we spent a lot more on family photos than expected which included a 20x24 canvas wrapped full family picture so we don't need to do much for christmas).
We don't have any decorations up and even though ds is old enough to get it, I just can't make myself care. I'm sure dh will care though and get them up this weekend.

Our Christmas tree has been up for over a week with only lights on it. Decorating it just isn't something we can do with JoJo underfoot. Heck, having the tree up is hard enough with JoJo around.

Sending "get it done" energy vibes to everyone who is overwhelmed with the details of their lives at the moment. On a related note, over the years I keep hearing the same story from lots of people in RL about a Christmas that was almost an absolute disaster. IIRC, the couple were traveling. The wife was VERY pregnant and really needed a warm room and comfy bed to get some sleep. But, get, this, her scatterbrained husband failed to make any hotel reservations, so when they finally arrived at their destination (a very popular place in those days), they had to sleep on top of straw on the floor in a freaking barn. And, then, to make matters worse, she went in to labor and had the baby right there in the barn because she went so fast there wasn't time for her DH to get directions to the local hospital. That poor guy has never lived that Christmas down, since. His only job was to make the hotel reservation and he totally screwed that up. And people are still talking about it 2,013 years later!!!!!!!!! Moral of the story: there is always someone far less-organized/efficient/effective/prepared than you. It's all good. If you don't get it all done, just let it go and find a way to enjoy the festivities anyway, because, frankly, there is only one uber-perfect Martha Stewart in the world and none of you (thankfully!!) are her. Merry Christmas!!!

My DH is in day four of a crappy stomach due to a mystery meat burrito he ate Saturday. He' on liquids, probiotics, anti-gas meds and he's just plain crabby about it. Like it's someone else's fault he ate food he shouldn't have (he has diverticulitis, so it's not like he doesn't know not to do these things). I offered to call the doctor for him, but wah-wah-whine, not sure if he feels that bad. Fine, I said. Doc's office opens at 8, I'm going to work and going on with life, make a decision for yourself. I am not your mom. You don't want to eat right or exercise or do what you need to do to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I'm not playing games. Suffer and be miserable and stew in it. I'd noticed my DH was "traveling" more than normal lately. Sounds like he's spending time at your house. You want to go ahead and just keep him?

As for me, I am making myself some roasted shrimp tonight. Just some olive oil, salt and pepper and put them on a baking tray. A few minutes in the oven, and they're done. A bit of rice on the side. DH may want some rice at this point, but I won't force the issue.

It's been NUTS here. I thought this week was going to be the week of relaxation, but it has been anything but. I had to take my car in for an alignment check yesterday, and surprise surprise, it is out of alignment! I am not going to even deal with it right now. It's only $90, but our interwebs bill was double what it usually is. I think it's because Skype logged me online. Stupid Skype.
I still need practical presents for the girls, I need to wrap presents for my folks, I need to finish my brother's scarf and my dad's hat. BS came home last night and told me that we (which really means I) am in charge of bringing a main dish to the unit Christmas party on Thursday. He suggested "that London Broil you made when your folks came for Christmas last time". Ummm, dear, that was a prime rib. Did I mention that this main dish needs to feed 15-20 people? I am NOT buying a prime rib for 15-20 people. And of COURSE it can't be something simple like lasagna...he is the NCO in charge...he needs to take care of everyone. Or something.
Oh, and guess what I'm doing on Saturday? A polar plunge.

I came home today to find that someone had stolen 2 UPS boxes that were left at my door. One was Bath and Body Works and one was from Dick's Sporting Goods...a coat for my sister. UPS dropped them off at 1:30 and my husband got home at 4:30. I guess I need to be more careful...stinks that people steal. I called Bath and Body Works and they are resending my order for free. Dick's Sporting Goods is sending me a replacement too. I am curious to see if they charge me for a second coat because the customer service guy did not mention payment...but they did already have my card info. I told my dog he was fired for not scaring away the thief.

I told my dog he was fired for not scaring away the thief. Judging from that look on your dog's face, he's OK with being fired if it means he no longer has to wear his reindeer uniform to work.
PS - the really sucky thing about the package theft is that it's most likely one of your neighbors who did it.

Well of course Dick's Sporting Goods is sold out of the jacket now! Ahh! No clue who stole our stuff. We sort of suspect the groundskeeper here...my husband has interacted with him and he is pretty shady, but we have no evidence. He was up and down the stairs that day dropping salt/ice melt. We have gotten a ton of packages and never had any trouble. I have checked the dumpsters for the boxes, but no luck. The great thing (sarcasm) is that I was just helping out my sister by ordering the coat for her to be from her husband for Christmas. I sure hope I am not out $65 for "helping".

Kcladyjane- that sucks big time . Hopefully it got delivered to the wrong house and a nice neighbor brings it over. DS' laptop was supposed to be delivered yesterday (as per the tracking). DH was outside shoveling the sidewalk when the UPS truck came by and stopped at the house a couple doors down from ours. DH waited, assuming they'd stop at our next and they drove right on by. A couple of hours later the doorbell rings and it's the neighbor with our UPS packages (laptop and a coat for my mom). Hopefully it will all work out for you in the end. (fingers crossed)

Well, I'm now officially on the "Holy sh*tballs, Christmas ack!" train with everyone. Did I mention that I'm standing up in a wedding this saturday and the rehearsal dinner is tomorrow night? I've been on a non-stop errand train for the last two days and am trying to finish up my last day in the office. We have to clean the house and shop and I want to crawl into a hole. STRESS LEVEL AT RED ALERT.

So, it turns out that if you open a toy store you're like insanely busy around Christmas. Who knew, right?
Some of our disasters so far this year include buying a Blue Spruce Christmas tree. We normally get Monterey Pine. It looks pretty good, but as soon as I finished cutting it down we realized how heavy the thing is. It's gotta weigh over 200 pounds. Took four guys to get it on the car. Get home, attach the tree stand thinking we'll stand the tree up then adjust it, because we probably can't lift the tree and set it in the stand like we normally do. Worked great, until the heavy ass tree bent the tree stand when we tried to stand it up. It laid on its side in the middle of our living room floor for days until we could get a heavy duty stand. We just got it upright a few days ago, and it's crooked as hell because the only stand sturdy enough to hold it is the spike type one and I'm not as good at drilling a straight hole in a horizontal tree as I thought I was. Whatever though, it's upright now and we got the lights and ornaments on.
We haven't even started decorating the outside of the house. The wife did most of the shopping for the kids online over the weekend, hopefully it all shows up in time. I haven't even thought about my shopping yet.
Christmas sucks.

The insults to posters not even posting in this thread are to stop. They're to stop now. There's no darned need for that. I'll edit two posts here that have something to offer besides insults (I'll just remove the insult). The post that has nothing to bring to the discussion other than an insult will be removed. For crying out tears, people! If nothing else, this time of the year should have you thinking about how you can be more kind to one another!
mmhmm, disappointed Administrator

It's a 10' tree. Maybe a tad over. The top of the angel is just barely below the ceiling. I haven't measured the bay window in a while, but I think it was around 11' at the peak.

We're skipping presents and decorating this year. My husband will be cooking a huge dinner though. Merry Christmas to me the best gift he could of given me was that. Yay, for not having to cook.
His plant shuts down for two weeks and he has no vacation time. Just didn't make sense to me to go out buy things for everyone when we'll be short two weeks pay. On top of that he just applied for a new job and starts on the 6th. So I am planning in my head that we will actually have no pay for three, three and half weeks. We have savings, but I really want to spend as little as possible out of it. So everyone is invited to pig out on Prime Rib at my house Christmas day. It was my dad's favorite thing to eat on Christmas. My husband wants to cook it in his memory. Hopefully I will get through the day without crying too much. So yea, Christmas is a bust for us this year.
