Great thread. So far suggestions have been completely useless to me as we don't celebrate Christmas. Common guys, doesn't anyone have any cool Thanksgiving traditions I could "borrow" ?? My MIL from Detroit always watches the lions.... but I don't really want to wish that on anyone. That's what will be on my Grandma's tv just like every Thanksgiving gathering! My cousins and I play board games and a game called spoons. Once one of my cousins wrestled our grandma to the floor and took the spoon right out of her hand It was hilarious!

love the games stories! when we were still "required" to go to spend the holidays with extended family my sis and I now politely tolerate in small and very sporadic sessions.......the highlight of the night was when we'd break out the games. our favorite was Taboo! and always with the same teams - my mom and me, my cousin of the same age and our Puerto Rican aunt (who both spoke Spanish and always tried to cheat!), the hostess aunt and Nana, those were the set teams. anyone else that thought they had a shot could throw their hat in the ring. whatever the lineup of teams, it always came down to my team and the Spanish-speaking cheaters lol....

We play Balderdash, a game where the word is given(always a weird one) and then everyone makes up a meaning (the reader writes the correct meaning) and everyone guesses what the correct meaning is. It ends up very dirty and downright hilarious!!! A family fav We also enjoy Clever Endevor.

Taboo brings back wonderful memories (not from the holidays but from college). Every Thursday night my roommate and I would get together with some guys who lived in our dorm for game night. We often played Taboo. My roommate and I would always kick their butts, even when we were drunk off our asses

We always open one present the night before. It's always a new pair of pajamas so we don't look like total slobs in the pictures on Christmas day. Open presents as soon as we're all awake Christmas morning. Breakfast is always huevos rancheros and coffee. Then we usually play board games all day.

Oh man, scattergories is my favorite! We used to play that every year until our new daughter-in-law came on the scene a few years ago. She's Japanese so English word games are really hard for her. Maybe we can play it again with teams.

Lena~ A few years ago we gave up the big feast with a zillion people and just the four of us started having chicken and our favorite 'Thanksgiving' sides for lunch and then go to the movies... Does that help? Nope. My husband is in love with turkey. And he LOVES thanksgiving DINNER! Thank you for trying

Great thread. So far suggestions have been completely useless to me as we don't celebrate Christmas. Common guys, doesn't anyone have any cool Thanksgiving traditions I could "borrow" ?? I beat the living daylights out of the nephews, then eat until I can't move. We turn on football and then I tell them how all their favorite players and teams suck. Then they are forced to tell me what they want for Christmas while I tell them their selections are lame. It's pretty special family time! Feel free to borrow as much of that as you like. I would totally borrow that, but neither my DH nor I have any nephews or nieces. I do, however, have 3 small children.....hmmmm.....ideas forming in my head as I am typing this

Well I don't know if this is so cool and I don't think it would work for you Lena with all your little boys (I know you guys, I read pretty much everything you write) but our Thanksgiving tradition is to go all out and use the china and crystal, put on the best tablecloth and wine glasses, candles, flowers or a fun centerpiece. I use the jellied cranberries from a can then slice them, and use a cookie cutter to make them into fun shapes like hearts or stars (people really get a kick out of this). I always make the traditional meal (for us the stuffing has to be wild rice stuffing with sausage) and after dinner, which isn't until about 4:00 or so, we drink more wine and play board games, just simple games so no one feels like a loser.
We only have anywhere from 8 to 12 people though (and all adults), I don't think this would be possible to pull off with a large group.
I like this. I like it a lot. And boys would LOVE the cranberries idea. You are my new favorite poster, whoever you are
