My parents both worked full time jobs and all of us kids played sports, marching band and were in every club. Most of these activities were over with by 5 and my parents got home from work around 5:30. My step-mother cooked real food and mastered 30 minute meals way before Rachael Ray came along. Dinner was always on the table between 6-6:30 and cleaned up by 7 at the latest. There was rarely a conflict. Often we took a walk around the neighborhood after dinner and then watched t.v. or played games from 8-10.
I think it's nice and I refuse to have t.v. trays in my house. My husband and I sat down at the table before we had kids and it's probably mostly my influence. There is more than enough time to bond with devises and t.v. without it being during dinner. And, like somebody else said, 20 minutes or so is not that long. My daughter is only 2 and my second is on the way, but I hope to continue making it work.
