No, Tenn-- I do not lie. I recently read Atlas Shrugged for the first time as an adult. It was way over my head as a teen. Now SEX, like in Water for Elephants?? THAT I would have comprehended just fine.
Archie-- not sure if you are being serious about your Dad. If so, I'm really sorry. Yes, being overly liberal has killed lots of people. I survived, and am more conservative now in many ways because of those experiences, yet still more liberal than many conservatives in others.

But he is a liberal in a lot of ways, so in that way he is dead to me.

Horse hockey, krickitt! A child prior to knowledge of sexuality will not understand the passage from Water for Elephants. "She took me in her hands" will compute, for a child of that tender age, as a big hug! For cripe's sake, get a grip! Even if it did bring up questions for the child, are you, as a parent, incapable of handling those questions? Would your children not have brought such questions to you?

I didn't know they were going to make a movie, Tennesseer. While I don't usually care much for movies, that may be one I'll be interested in seeing. mmhmm-here is the movie trailer:

I find it rather sad that a person could disengage from a parent because the parent had a different political viewpoint than they, themselves, held.

Kids in middle school give eachother oral sex in the bathroom.. I don't think they are naive as you are giving them credit for.

Then the kids shouldn't be titillated or driven sexually insane by a small passage in an otherwise big book.

Some kids in middle school may engage in sexual activity. Others don't. Those that do surely won't be damaged by what's in these books. They already know it all, and more! Think what you're saying!

Most of the kids are probably laughing that the adults think that is sexually explicit.

Yes, krickitt, middle school children are of "tender age". They might not think they are, but they are. They don't know half of what they think they know. Those that are participating in sexual activities at school are in far more hot water than those reading in an extra-curricular class, IMO.

That two page passage quoted earlier is probably no worse than some of what was in Valley of the Dolls". And that book is pretty much camp now.

It is Florida-and it comes out this April as a movie. I hope the movie is as good as the book-the movie has a good cast. The Da Vinci Code and The Perfect Storm....Off the top of my head, these were two excellent books that had extremely disappointing movie remakes. I believe I'll try to avoid the movie release of a good book. Come to think of it....I can't recall a single movie based off a Steven King novel that was any good either.

I never read The Perfect Storm so I only have the film to go by. I did read Da Vinci Code and see the movie. Enjoyed the book-movie was so so. Tom Hanks was miscast. I bought the special edition of the Da Vinci Code book which had pictures of all the places mentioned in the book. That helped with the feel of the story.

I thought Misery was the only one that was any good...and it wasn't perfect either. Did you know there's a project in the works to make 3 Dark Tower/Gunslinger movies along with a 3 year tv series to 'fill in the gaps'...with Ron Howard as producer/director. Javier Bardem will be the Gunslinger.

I think krickitt might also be mistaking not wanting religion to be taught as truth in a public setting for not wanting the bible to be taught. I, for one, would welcome an English class that studied the bible as literature (which is what it is), or the Koran, or any other religious text. Maybe in a world history course, that would be cool. I don't believe in banning any books that have merit from public school libraries - especially at the high school level, but I honestly wish there was more content at the middle and elementary school level too. When you have a 10 year old reading at a college level, books about unicorns get a little boring. Regardless, the issue in this case is that ONE family objected to what a VOLUNTARY course was reading. Their child didn't even have to read the book and could have still taken the course. This is an issue of ONE FAMILY imposing their morality on other families. It's bullshit. And the school board should be fired

You're... welcome?
Look, if a school board is willing to have their opinion swayed based solely on the fact that they don't want the fight.. uhh.. yah.. not much of a school board.

Uh... yeah. i also remember you saying you were reading it for the first time... and are you saying there isn't sex in atlas shrugged? Dagny sleeps will all the lead male characters... from the time she is a teenager, whether they are married or if she is inoved with someone else, or not...
Interesting you feel it was over your head as a teen...

UUhhhhh... I did not mention the Bible... just saying.... My apologies - I took this statement: Just like you guys scream for Christians to keep their religion away from you Read more: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=politics&action=display&thread=3563&page=5#ixzz1ELv9CL5s...Out of context. Granted, what you mistake for us screaming at Christians to keep their religion away from us, is actually us screaming at Christians to keep their religion out of our laws and to not teach their religion IN PUBLIC SCHOOL as truth. Huge difference. My apologies

I think she was saying that she read it as a teen and it was over her head (uh.. yah... I read it at 14 and it was pretty easy to understand, just sayin' ) but she recently read it for the first time AS AN ADULT. Just to clear up the confusion
