Wow!! the minimum amount necessary to prevent a single death keeps climbing. See Moneynews.com Feb 17 2011. "Feds Raise the cost of Life" Epa now estimates 9.1 million (up from 6.8 million) The FDA raised a life from 5 million to 7.9 million. For the EPA this is to justify new air pollution controls. For the FDA it iss to justify new cancer warnings on cigarettes.

What are they basing the numbers on is my question? Where does that number start from, middle age, retirement age or from birth? Realisticly those numbers look a bit fishy to me.

appears to be used to justify further regulations by federal agencies. The article cites the old numbers as per the Bush Administration and revised by the new administration departments

This anti smoking campaign is sucking up money that could be used to research lung cancer.90 percent of new lung cancer patients either quit a while ago,or never smoked. Lung cancer kills more than all the other top cancers ,including breast, combined, but yet recieves a fraction of the money . Huge strides have been made in mortality rates and early detection and new treatments in other cancers, but lung is still where it was years ago.
