I've had an ipad2 for about a year and a half. Love it. Esp for travel. When they come out with the ipad mini with retina, I will get one.

One other thing that's cool about Ipads (if you have kids) is being able to use them in the cars for long-trips. We bought these straps/case that allow you to put them on the back of the seat and they double as the car DVD player. We had initially spent about $300 on a double DVD player for the car and it was a total waste of money. The DVD players were always konking out.

Personally, I feel that tablets just aren't as robust as laptops if you need to do "work" type tasks. I've posted from YM on my tablet from time to time, and I just can't bang out the same WPM like I can on a keyboard.
Spreadsheets work alright. I can manage my grocery tally on the tablet or phone. If I was trying to do pivot tables or complicated equations, there is no way I would reach for the tablet. I feel like tablets are better for consuming data, not creating data.
I also get a bit frustrated with certain content. "Mobile" versions of sites just don't always work properly. Sure you can request the desktop version, but it still doesn't work properly. I had a HELL of a time trying to log into my American Express account.
Another thing you have to be wary of is your passwords. If you use special characters, and remember them based on where they are on the keyboard, you might have to make the extra trouble to memorize the character. My "muscle memory" for passwords is good, but when I am trying to remember whether the octothorpe is on the 3 or 4, and what is on the 5, its tough. I find myself looking up images of qwerty keyboards to figure it out!
ETA: my tablet's strength is its ability to have long battery life for video watching, and being small. Its a great companion for trips. I can do light web surfing (reading, not posting), and watch movies.
