FYI: Moderators can set any user's "karma" to any value. And I have a feeling that threads set up expressly for the purpose of karma farming could provoke the newly-elected EE mods into -10 karma-per-strike megasmites. Give a hoot. Hug a mod.

Yay the Karma's back!! But I liked smiting on occasion too, esp. as a joke to my friends. But I always gave them back. And they didn't even notice most the time so I couldn't point and laugh at them when they whined like I did. Ha!

Don't understand how a poster can still have a negative Karma rating when there is no smite button to use by the general posters here.

Not at all. I'm simply a fiscal realist.
You see, karma will eventually be transacted as a currency on these boards.
Users will be given an allotment of 20 karma per week by the central bank (the Moderal Reserve) to spend as they see fit.
Characters, emoticons, threads, and special formatting will all be converted to a pay-as-you-go system. For example, 1 karma will buy two emoticons or one "quote" block. The default character limit on any post will be 250 characters, but an additional 250 characters per karma can be purchased at the notmsnmoney store. Starting up a new thread will cost 5 karma.
This way, posters are forced to make prudent decisions about which features they'll spend their hard-earned karma on. And, as with any good capitalist system, goods and serves may be sold in order to raise new karma.
But, as this system hasn't been set up yet, we can't have unrecognized authorities (i.e. improvident ragamuffins) simply bidding up each other's karma tit for tat, now can we? Not only does "karma farming" undermine the authority of the central bank, it spoils public faith in the system.
I hope this explanation has been of some help to you.
Your cooperation and mute acquiescence are appreciated.

May I submit to you, sir, that the changes in fact vastly increased your enjoyment of the Farmville game and that you're simply unable to determine what it is you enjoy.
Which reminds me:
In the spirit of Microsoft's policy of prohibiting links to competing sites, links to Facebook, MySpace, Linkedin, Friendster, Stumbleupon, del.icio.us, digg, reddit, Orkut, Twitter, Classmates.com, Meetup.com, Yahoo! 360°, Xanga, Care2, Ryze, and any domain with a .org or .net suffix will be subject to a 3 karma surcharge under the new system.
Once again, your cooperation is appreciated.

I liked the Karma and the smite functions because they let a poster know what others think of their posting. The hopeful outcome would be trying to raise one's karma by conforming to the social norms of the boards. Said outcome would significantly reduce the need for Mods to work so hard.

Jan, I think it's the level that you are at. I started with yellow stars but got red when I moved to full member. I think the blue starts are the nextg level up.

Malarky, You forgot the [ at the beggining of your BLOCK QUTOE SWITCH. I fixed it for Ya. For Referrence it should look like this -- [*blockquote] [*/blockquote] -- (with out the * in the fields) you can also do [*quote] text you are quoting here [*/quote] (minus the *)

The color of the stars is controlled by a background bot. It constantly analyzes your messages for political undertones and gives you Blue Stars if the messages are Democrat hyperbole or Red Stars if they are Republican hyperbole.

...but you felt compelled to tell me that in public. My av is the villain from a comic illustrated by my wife's friend. The artwork is heavily Japanese influenced, and (in case you hadn't noticed) male characters in Japanese art are highly androgynous. I liked him because he has snake eyes. Given that your name en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rovo is the name of a Japanese band featuring "Bondage Fruit electric violinist Yuji Katsui" and who "define their music as 'man-drive trance,'" you're not necessarily one to talk. However, if anyone reading this thread (particularly the men) concurs with rovo's assessment, kindly PM me.
