3catslady: 6 NSD, 5 CSD, 2 eating out days, I think. My SIL, cousin and I ate at Texas Stake House today for out monthly meeting. We had a great time. My cousin had to leave early because she had practice for singing in the Bellefonte Victorian Christmas Pageant. My SIL and I talked for another hour. I think I am coming down with something because I had/have a sore throat. That is the only thing I have though, no fever, cough, or body/head aches. Last month one of my co-workers came down with meningitis. Actually she has been back for a month so it was longer than that. I got some Alka-Seltzer Plus cold and flu medicine so I should be okay. I started taking it right away. I also doubled my Vitamin C.

Things have been busy. Have not been doing anything but school and home. Trying to keep on top of things. Hope all are doing well. Will check in when I can.

13/25 NSD reeneejune*Waves Hi* It's been a long time. About a year, if I remember right. Let me give you the cliff notes version... Left my job at the fabric store for what was supposed to be a better paying job. Once training ended, the promised higher pay never materialized and I struggled for months to meet work goals and make ends meet. I had taken on a car loan with horrendous terms, signed a lease on an apartment that was too expensive, and made a blind leap that didn't work out so well. I was finally let go at the beginning of July for failing to meet sales goals. After some serious evaluation I decided to take advantage of a program that helps unemployed people attempt to start a small business. I'm working on doing plus size clothing and selling through Etsy. Oct. 2nd I had my appendix removed, and spent two days in the hospital recovering, followed by 4 days with Mom and Grandma. Then I came home to recover more on my own. I'm finally mostly back to normal. Of course, I don't have health insurance right now since I'm not working. I was treated at a local HMO's hospital, and apparently they have an excellent financial assistance program. I have the paperwork filled out and going out in the mail tomorrow. I'll make payment arrangements for any amount that they don't choose to cover. They may only get $20 a month for a while, but they'll get something. I did make several decisions over the last year that have helped immensely now that I'm unemployed. I had made 4 out of 10 payments on my personal loan, and had gotten unemployment insurance on the loan. They've made 2 full payments so far, and will make the October and November payments as well, leaving just two payments remaining (December and January). We also took on a third roommate (it's a 3 bedroom apartment) which makes the rent and utilities very manageable. And finally, by giving up on the car when I did, I'm able to manage my transportation costs and keep them quite low (currently spending less than $75 for transportation). I'm also thankful that I have a fairly generous weekly unemployment benefit. I have until the end of the year in the small biz development program, so I have a budget in place to get a month ahead. (In this program I continue receiving the weekly unemployment benefit for a set period of time so long as I'm working on the business.) So the plan right now is to have as few unplanned spends as possible. This month has been fairly easy so far, I haven't really been out of the house much. Ok, I'll stop rambling now. It feels good to be back.

Reeneejune, hi back! I've heard great things about etsy including how you don't pay to post only a commission when you sell. Are you creating the clothes based on your own designs? Should be a winner as there's a definite market gap there

I hate it when I become the cautionary tale for my younger friends...

Ombud - There is a tiny listing fee... but it's only $0.20 per listing, so it's not a huge problem if something doesn't sell. Yes, I'm creating my own designs. Technically the home sewing patterns you can buy are not for "commercial" use. While it's extremely unlikely that I would be sued for using an existing pattern, that is a possibility. Also, I'm not a big fan of things that resemble mumus. I make things that have a shape, and a lot of what I'm designing is appropriate for an office setting, one of the most difficult things for plus size women to find.
Rocky Mtn Saver - All I can do is take a deep breath and carry on. *shrugs*

3catslady: 8 NSD, 6 CSD, 2 eating out days. I did come down with a head cold and today was the worst day of it. I have been taking Alka-Seltzer Plus cold and flu for the past couple of days but last night I took the night time pills and really felt lousy. I haven't taken anything all day except my regular pain pills and I am feeling better. I am not taking anything tonight but I will still take the daytime pills. I am going to close my one bank, 2 accounts, and only have one bank to deal with. I feel in control of my money now. I don't have to check to see if I have money in the account before I buy anything with that card. I usually use that account for the mortgage but in case of emergencies and that was only once. It caused me to pay a fee for NSF and I was upset because they usually transfer the money to cover it. When I asked about that, they said they stopped that a while back. Anyway, I am down to one bank and I am happy.

Rocky Mtn Saver: 5 NSD/6 CSD
Today should be another CSD, but tomorrow won't. I was going to spend some money on Saturday, but now I have a friend's bon voyage party to attend instead. It's low-key, so I will probably just bring a dish. So maybe I'll get another NSD!

Reenee - wow that's a rough year! Glad you're back on your feet with plans ahead!
So far so good with the eating out. I did buy us lunch last weekend but other than that we've cooked or "pantry shopped." DH cooked us Chinese last night for our anniversary instead of ordering out, and we'll have leftovers tonight (he made a LOT lol).
This weekend is the first of the twins' first birthday parties, up by my parents. They are pretty much paying for everything, which is a huge help. Grandparents rule. Next weekend we have the bigger party down by us, and we'll be doing it as cheaply as possible: giant subs instead of hot trays of food, a few appetizers, and using our Halloween decorations as it's a Halloween themed party. So hopefully that's not too pricey!

reeneejune: 17/25 NSDI ended the weekend with more money in my pocket than when I started the weekend, so I'm going to call that a win. Only $10, but even that small amount is important. Got a few errands done that I needed a car for; donated a couple of boxes of clothing to Goodwill, took pop cans in for recycling, did some grocery shopping. But I also took the time to do something fun. I drove out to Multnomah Falls and poked around for a while. I packed my own snacks, there was no admission fee, and I already had the car for long enough (the car reservation includes gas and insurance, so I didn't have to worry about extra gas money for the trip).

3cats--my total sympathies! I have been dealing with the same issues for the last ten days. I did go out yesterday to the chiropractor for about 30 minutes. I learned there is a virus flying around town. I have drunk enough water to float several navies. I will have a day where I feel like I will live and I do too much (like wash dishes, clean the litter boxes and make the bed) and I am wiped out. I admire you for continuing to work. I have not been this sick for years.
Ombud--enjoy London. one of my favorite places.

reeneejune: 18/25 NSD
Rocky Mtn Saver - I'm on the Oregon side, west side of Portland, in one of the suburbs. I've been all over the state, but we always avoided the more obvious tourist spots.
I won't make my goal for the month, but I'll get close.

3catslady: 13 NSD, 10 CSD, 3 eating out days. I bought over $100 in groceries to last the rest of the month and into the next. I filled my car up but I still need to get the fluids checked and possibly get them. I will need to get cat food and litter for next week and go do laundry. Other than that I am done spending for the month. I have 505 on me, 6 on the way to 25 in my drawer, and 375 in my book bank, 1800 in the savings bank for bills come the first of the month. I feel rich. I have never had that much cash on me or in my possession for a long time. Now on Wednesday I am going to close my one bank account which has 135 in it and then I am going to make a deposit to my other working bank and get my cash on hand down. I would feel terrible if I lost any of it. Thanks to this thread for all you have taught me.

Just read about the terrible storm that is shutting down Southern England. I hope it won't impact Ombud's trip too much. I know it can't technically be called a hurricane, I think due to lattitude and wind location. It is being named Jude. It is being called the worst storm in five years, hope it does not not cause too much damage.
