United States: In Taken by Force J Robert Lilly estimates the number of rapes committed by U.S. servicemen in Germany (at the end of WWII) to be 11,040. In a letter to Time Magazine, an American Army sergeant wrote "Our own Army and the British Army ... have done their share of looting and raping.... It is also common knowledge that American soldiers are persona non grata in the homes of decent girls in many of the liberated countries because of their attitude that any foreign girl is automatically a prostitute.... This offensive attitude among our troops is not at all general, but the percentage is large enough to have given our Army a pretty black name, and we too are considered an army of rapists." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_during_the_occupation_of_Germany#US The letter is a hoax, re-quoted in full and apologized for by time to the individual the letter purportedly came from. Such are the dangers of quoting an encyclopedia written by editors with an agenda. (The WP article quoted the original appearance and ignored the later apology.) Welcome New Poster!!
