He has no qualms about inserting himself into Cambridge or Trayvon Martin or Sandy Hook. So where is he now to bloviate about this liberal paradise?

oh ffs. he was ASKED about Cambridge when he was speaking about something else, and he held a press conference about Sandy Hook similar to was his predecessor did after everything calmed down some from 9/11. the case against George Zimmerman was absolutely NOT cut and dry, and given the expected reconsideration of the Stand Your Ground laws, I don't think any lawmaker's comments about the case are out of line. would you have expected another President to speak about various isolated incidents in a short time span?

There aren't isolated incidents. Chicago has had ongoing violence for quite awhile. But, there is no political hay to be made there i guess.

they are isolated in that each incident is completely unrelated to the other incidents. but go ahead and try to stir the pot, really.

Obama makes comments about isolated incidences such as the Trayvon Martin case but yet multiple murders involving young kids happen in Chicago every night and he doesn't say a word about those.

Barack Obamanly cares when there is a political advantage to be had......He couldn't hide his racist feelings when he tried to inflame the public with his rant about Zimmerman......But shoot some thugs in Chicago......He's quiet, because there is no political gain to be had.

I'm done with this. no need to

I'm done with this. no need to The Chicago shootings testify to the ineffectiveness of a controversial body of laws--gun control--being championed by the present administration. Gun control opponents have endlessly insisted that America's problems are not with its weapons but with its people. You can ban weapons until you're blue in the face, they claim, but Chicago serves as a cautionary example that if you don't address the underlying causes of the violence, bans are meaningless. I believe Shooby's argument is rhetorical, meant to emphasize the irony that nobody expects Pres. Obama to comment on a tragedy of this magnitude. Nobody expects reporters to ask him to comment on it. It's violence Americans tolerate and have come to expect. If we tallied up the national news coverage per victim of the Sandy Hook massacre (a very pro-gun-control event), it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find that it exceeded the national news coverage per victim of this weekend's shootings in Chicago (a very gun-control-is-meaningless event) by a factor of 1,000:1. Thus you can hardly blame gun control opponents like Shooby for seizing the opportunity to make hay. And right or wrong, like it or not, Pres. Obama is viewed as the head of the gun control machine right now. He's going to be man in the crosshairs*.

the Chicago meme is quaint, but Obama is not the President of Chicago. Since Chicago cannot control guns across the state or in surrounding states, it would make a decent argument for gun control on the federal level.

As for the question "Where is Obama?", the press is reporting that he is vacationing with his family on the island of Martha's Vineyard, off the southern coast of Massachussetts. A vacation! "Where is the outrage?", you say? Are the anti-Obamite clowns going to squabble and squawk every time the Prez and his family gets a little R&R?
(Hint: compare the number of days the Obamas have spent vacationing to the number of days GWB spent holed-up on the ranch in Midland, Texas...)

"It's his own backyard."
Huh. Its probably a 20 hour drive or so from Washington DC.
This whole what about Chicago is a deflection technique. He was never mayor of Chicago nor governor of Illinois so not the person who would typically address Chicago violence. There's a lot of murders in D.C. Not a single President has addressed them. Ever.
I find the argument annoying because its pointless. Own up to your anger and what you want done instead of being passive-aggressive about the whole thing. I'm pretty sure people who continually post this whine wouldn't be any happier if murders dropped to zero in Chicago. Because they really don't even care about that. So is it a gun control thing or just resentment because its Obama addressing these situations which would have been foisted on any President in office?

Gun control is one of the reasons behind posting this stuff as if what gang members do should guide policy on what law abiding citizens might or might not do. Why isn't anyone posting about mob hits & violence in NYC? Or Mexican drug cartel violence on our southern borders? To use the logic from above, perhaps we should just give up on legal immigration as well since we have some illegal immigrants. Obviously we aren't successful enough with our current attempts so we should just give it up entirely.

You don't see politicians on the national level discussing inner city gun violence because for the most part it's gangbangers shooting other gangbangers so nobody cares. When they kill a kid in the crossfire or a cop the politicians talk about it. As long as they're shooting each other fuck em.

When they kill a kid in the crossfire or a cop the politicians talk about it. As long as they're shooting each other fuck em. That's 90% of it for sure. I can't think of any Chicago resident I've ever talked to that didn't eventually sigh and say "As long as they're just killing each other." I've had "unusual" experiences both times I've been to Chicago. The first time I took the subway from the airport to downtown. I made the mistake of making eye contact with a homeless fellow who was walking the train looking for money. He literally dropped down on his knees in front of me and put on an incredible performance. I made the second mistake of telling him that I only had Canadian money on me, which I figured wouldn't be of any interest to him, but his eyes just lit up with delight. So I gave him CAD $20.00. The second time I was staying in an apartment just off the "magnificent mile" and I got hungry at about 11:00 PM, so I went out in search of food. I saw a McDonald's and headed for it, noting several groups of towering black teenagers loitering by the door. When I got into the restaurant I realized that it was packed and that I was the only white person in the entire place. And so did everybody else. And although I admit my first thought was "Sweet Ronald McDonald, I've committed suicide for a burger.", my Canadian PC conditioning (which some might call lack of self-preservation) paid off. I thought "must... not... give in... to... racial... stereotypes" and stood in line with everybody else as though nothing was amiss. And within a minute nobody cared that I was there anymore, so I'm glad I didn't chicken out. But if Pres. Obama thinks he's the only one who's ever been followed in a store or eyeballed because of his race, he's sorely mistaken.

I had a really similar experience my first time in DC. I got on the metro at the mall headed towards the end of the blue line I think, to meet my cousin. When I got on the car I was sitting in was mostly tourists and professionals on their way home and very white with a mix of minorities. At each stop more and more tourists got off and more workers and students got on, but each time it was more white folks getting off and more black folks coming in. Out near the end of the line I realized I was the only white guy left in the car. A black lady sat down next to me and her first question was, are you lost? I explained where I was going and she verified I was on the right line then added don't leave the platform until your cousin comes and picks you up. I wasn't really uncomfortable until she said that. It was more of a weird curiosity for me to be such a minority. She repeated her warning for me to stay at the platform until I was picked up like three times, then I started looking at it differently wondering how rough the neighborhood I was heading to really was. By this point I was getting a lot of looks from the other folks in the car. They all looked like you'd expect students and commuters to look, nobody was dressed like a hoodlum or anything, but she was pretty earnest about me not being safe wandering around on my own when I got off the train.
After growing up in the southwest which has a really small black population it was a trip to be the only white guy in a totally black environment.
