Also keep in mind, for example, Full Synthetic from WalMart lets say Castrol is different thing that Full Synthetic Castrol from AutoZone. A LOT different. Are you saying that the exact same oil is different whether it's from Walmart or from AutoZone? Can you back that up? Or are you saying that the Castrol Syntec 10W30 from AutoZone is different than the Castrol Syntec 5W40 from Walmart? That would at least make sense, but is kinda obvious ... 5W40 would be formulated different from 10w30 of course. Give you an example. Castrol is recommended by BMW. I could go to WalMart and buy "their" Castrol Full Synthetic 5W40 off the shelf. It's Castrol after all right? Well Castrol also is bottled up for BMW, so I could also go to a dealer and get Castrol "BMW label" 5W40 as well...you would think it's a same thing right? Wrong. Totally two different things. Maybe not necessary WalMart/AutoZone. I am just saying when it comes to Castrol specifically. Many think "Hey, it's Castrol here and Castrol there, gotta be the same thing!" Even Castrol that we get here in USA is different from Castrol they have in Europe. The specifications of oil my car requires (you can see the oil specifications on the back of the oil bottle) are not on a Castrol Full Synthetic 5w40 oil from WalMart. You would think, since my car requires Castrol 5w40 full synthetic, and the bottle says just that, it would meet the speficications right? Wrong. I went through this many times and talked to some very smart people about it. There is a whole debate about it too in car enthusiast circles. It was to the point where people would send their used oil to a lab. I finally had a chat with my indy who wrote many articles for my cars documentation, manuals...basically guy knows his stuff and is know countrywide...and he confirmed..stay away from WalMart Catrol oil.. even though it says "Formulated for.. blah blah blah 5w40" It's not the same thing. Their Castrol does not meet requirements for my car that are listed in my manual. BTW, people should check out Full Synth Amsoil. Very good oil.

I have never seen 5W40 at Walmart. Which specification are you talking about that is not met by the Walmart 5W40? I know that the synthetic oil in Europe is different (better) than the one sold here, but there is a different label, too. The Diesel fuel in Europe is higher grade as well. Look at the VW turbocharged engines. VW has a lawsuit following them here in the U.S. about sludge in the 1.8T engine. Europe? Nobody has ever heard of a sludge problem with that very same motor. It's all oil related. The oil here is cheap, but not necessarily good. The funny (or sad ) part is how then the car manufacturer gets blamed for making a superior engine with much tighter specs which unfortunately does not run that well on crappy oil. :-(
