It wouldn't take much time for me to leave. Get the pencil box and go. The angel was here when I took the job. She was in the back of the supply cabinet so I rescued her.

Yeah, I had roller bladed to work on the day I was laid off. Very tough to cart home a mini fridge when you've arrived at work on roller blades. Awkward. LOL. I hope they let you skate home and get a car. I would have made the HR person drive me home with all my crap.

I'm laughing as I type this, but it wasn't really very funny at the time.

Besides a lot of books, a half dozen plants and all the other assorted stuff mentioned above, I have a 30 gallon freshwater fish tank.
I've had it for over 15 years and 4 office moves. I have never asked if it was okay and have never been told it wasn't.
We're kind of a quirky office.

I have one pictures frame, assorted disposible plates/cups/plastic silverwear (they don't provide any of that here), hand sanitizer, coffee maker, pens, highlighters, sticky notes, files on the computer, and some personal papers in my desk. I wouldn't take me very long to pack up. Most important would be the files on my computer where I keep track of my finances. Easier to keep my finances up to date at work on my lunch break then at home.

That is most often the case. At least you can see the humor now. Some people can be bitter for a long time.

I always joke that they won't fire me or lay me off because the company wouldn't want to ship all my things to my home. I have a mini fridge, photos, a plant, decorative items, at least a dozen pair of shoes, makeup, scarves, spare tights, extra clothes, medicine, several mugs, an extra purse, sun therapy lamp...
Luckily we are provided with a lot of storage, so everything is put away neatly and my space is organized.

one baseball bat with an evidence tag on it. Have you personally used that item? Personally, no. It was the evidence in an assault trial I did as an ADA against my now business partner. He tells me during that trial he decided he wanted to hire me. I kept it together and maintained a sense of humor and professionalism while my case that looked good on paper went to hell in a hand basket when the witnesses opened their toothless mouths to testify. I lost the trial but kept the bat.

I have so much crap at work...ugh...but I've also worked there over 13 years. I have a box of junk I haven't even unpacked since they moved a bunch of our offices sometime last year. LOL. I have a coffee maker, toaster oven, dishes, silverware, food, snacks, coffee, etc, pictures, one framed, others on the bulletin board, 2 small lamps (cuz the overhead lights kill me when I have a migraine, which is fairly often), a mirror and picture on the wall, medicine, toiletries, extra shoes, a sweater, a fan, a space heater...probably more I can't think of off the top of my head!

I have worked at this job for 13 years and have moved at least 10 times. So now everything that I have will fit into a Staples 5 ream paper box - nothing personal except for some lotion, advil and clorox wipes. I purge once a year and it will probably take me 5-10 minutes to clear my desk.

At my last job (left due to a new job and relocating due to DH's job promotion), it took almost a day to clear our my office. I had: 1. 2 framed CPA certificates 2. 2 framed diplomas 3. framed old-fashioned world map 4. 2 framed palm tree/map pictures 5. 2 framed pictures of DD 6. framed picture of DH and I 7. 4 binders of my CPE info (if ever audited by the state) 8. 3 cat figurines play instruments 9. Peanuts day-by-day desk calender 10. several CPA related magazines I hadn't reviewed yet 11. few inch stack of various CPA related "cheat sheets", needed info 12. several of my own highlighters 13. several of my own pens 14. several of my own pencils 15. nail clippers 16. lip balm 17. coffee cup 18. hair ties, clips, bobby pins, etc. 19. hair brush 20. tampons/pads 21. TV 22. 2 CPA licenses That's all that I can think of right now. Basically, besides the big stuff (i.e., 1st 4 items and the TV), everything else fit in 3 copy paper boxes and a diaper box. At my current office, I have only the diaper box stuff. I don't have any own office (I did before) so the majority of the big things and decorations won't be coming back for awhile, if at all.

It took me 30 minutes to clean out my area when I quit, but most of that was going through the documentation to get my personal notes out of the systems stuff I was turning over. The only really personal items were a single 3x5 framed picture of my daughters, and a couple pieces of pottery they made for me one Father's Day. I walked out with a single half full standard file box. I'd worked there 6 years in a semi-private office. I'm not a knick knack and decorating kind of guy. I don't collect anything, I don't do souvenirs, and I could look out the window and see the bay so I didn't need pictures.

Well, I work from home now, so there's a lot of stuff here. But when I was in the office, I also had a lot.... A full shoe collection (it was NYC, I'm not wearing 3 inch heels to commute) and at least 2 cardigans and a wrap Personal care items - pantyhose, deodorant, tampons, band aids, lotion, OTC meds (aspirin, gas x, etc), nail file, that kind of stuff Personal decorative stuff - a framed pic of DH and me, two plants, some things brought back from international trips either by me or coworkers, wall calendar A few company awards Personal financial records - tax receipts, tax docs, mortgage docs...yeah, yeah, it probably is better for this stuff to be at home. But when you spend most of your waking hours at your office, that's where stuff ends up. Personal company records - performance appraisals and such. Reference materials - programming books, etc Money....I always had change in a drawer and at least $20-50 in my drawer. There was an ATM in the building, but I just felt better having cash if I needed it. I also had spare ferry passes and train tickets. When I left, I think they had to ship 5 big boxes to me. But that also included all of my work files. If I left the company now, I think I would have about a box to send back to them....mainly comprised of my two laptops, docking stations and headset. Ad my company credit card, badge, etc. The rest I would keep or shred. And I bought things like my monitor and my keyboard. I also pay for a lot of my own office supplies (honestly, it's easier than filing an expense report for $2) so those would stay too. I didn't realize how much crap I had until I boxed it up to leave.

I have some pictures hanging on a tack board, a sweater, a box of shoes, a New Kids lunch box for my snacks, a bunch of pens I hoarded (we get some nice pens!), my first 10k finisher medal, a stuffed cat toy from my old boss (his name is MCAT, har har), a water bottle, two coffee mugs, some rally towels, and some reference books. I can put all that in one box and carry it on the train.

I have never been one to keep much personal stuff in my office. I keep snacks in my drawer, hand weights that use during lunch some days, and I have one picture on my wall. That's about it.

I have a couple pairs of shoes, a radio/cd player, bamboo in a vase, framed photos, water bottles, coffee mugs, snacks, toiletries, OTC meds, a candle, a couple of christmas decorations, a cute shoe doorstop. The only things I would bother to take with me if I were unceremoniously let go would be the one small framed photo and the cute doorstop, they'd both fit in my purse. Someone here would have to deal with all my detritus if they canned me! Besides, two of the framed photos are actually pictures of my my ex-SIL's kids that she brought in about 7 or 8 years ago because she thought my office was bare and impersonal. My current sweetie thinks it's odd I have my ex's neice and nephew up on the file cabinet and not his kids, but I am really THAT lazy when it comes to office decor. So I probably shouldn't bring those home and put them on the mantel or anything.

I have some toys, the ones I paid for I am keeping, all other samples can stay. I actually have a little envelope in my desk with the receipts, as store staff have tried to snag things occasionally for a customer, and I have to remind them that it is my personal property. There is a tote bag under my desk filled with paperbacks that I finished on the train ride in and didn't feel like bringing back home. These I will send over to the library, where there is a Take One Leave One cart. I have a few bottles of dressing, and a file box full of tea bags, hot chocolate packets, utensils, spices, and ketchup. I have a locker kit with a hairbrush, mirror, personal items, bandaids, socks, and a sewing kit. There are a bunch of reusable shopping bags from Whole Foods that I have brought lunch in and then forgot to bring home. Five boxes of Girl Scout cookies... I am going to do a purge next month before I go on vacation, as my boss likes to have someone 'file' for me when I am out. If I leave the space clean enough, I can avoid that.

Personal stuff ?? Are you talking about the three dozen enlarged landscape photos that comprise my wallpapaer, or my red ticker, steel ruler and coffee cup?

Susanna, that's a good deal to make with someone. A full shoe collection! That's pretty interesting. That reminded me of when my husband's school burned down about a decade ago. Most teachers keep personal belongings in their classrooms. Their stuff was not covered by the district's insurance.

Most teachers keep personal belongings in their classrooms. Their stuff was not covered by the district's insurance. Yeah, I had about a mile walk to the train station, then a bunch of stairs and walking when I got to NYc, so wearing heels to commute did not make sense. And I didn't want to tote the shoes back and forth every day. I actually think my stuff was safer in my work building than at home. Barring a 9/11 type episode, our building was not likely to burn down. My stuff was locked up. The building was secure (badge and fingerprint required for access). There were 24X7 security guards. And if someone did steal something, there were security cameras that we could use to figure it out.

I do not have an office, just a desk.
Let's see...two framed pictures of the kiddos, a bunch of unframed pics of nieces/nephews/family and a calendar stuck to a cork board, a radio/cd player & some cd's. There's a 1/2 jar of peanut butter, multivitamins that I forget to take, some tea bags and some condiment packets (which I would probably leave here) in a drawer and a coffee mug and a water glass on top...and that's it.
I can probably fit it all in a couple of plastic grocery bags if I need to.

Oh, I do have a pair of sneakers in my locker too. I added these, a flashlight, and a bottle of water after I had to walk to Brooklyn after that blackout a few years ago.
