3catslady: 9 NSD, 4 CSD, 1 eating out day. Tomorrow will be a controlled spend day because I took my car to the garage and that is a planned spend. I will also be getting some groceries which is another controlled spend day.

Rocky Mtn. Saver: 8 CSD/4 NSD
I was going to say that I only spent $3.76 yesterday, so it was a CSD. But if you count the refund check I received in the mail, I made $219.74. Can I count that as an NSD?

3catslady: 12 NSD, 5 CSD, 2 eating out days. And I lost my bold button and all the others. And the type is all messed up. I hope this isn't the way my day is going to be.

This month is a wash. If one more thing goes wrong or one more expense comes up I will scream...
I will explain when I can do it without whining or bawling.

17/22 NSD
This has been a busy month. Since the living room renovation in May I been sorting through many boxes of stuff--much of it books and papers, which always take me a LONG time. Some headway has been made. I also have managed to keep my mini container garden on the deck alive and the tomatoes are really starting to set on this past week. My mouth is salivating for a good BLT!
It is really hard to get myself motivated to do much these hot summer days, but I keep plugging along. I am ready for some cooler days of Fall. There is so much yard work waiting for cooler days.
I think some weekend soon I am going have some friends come for a weekend of marathon Scrabble games. We only stop when total exhaustion crosses our eyes or when the pizza is delivered, then we start over again. We do this a couple of times a year and each time we declare that next time we will stop and get a nap every so often. It hasn't happened yet.
Back to my boxes!

3catslady: 14 NSD, 5 CSD, 3 eating out days. I must have screwed up my computer because I don't have any of the bold buttons, no smiley faces, no clock at the top and my time is GMT and not am or pm. When I am typing here it is wrong but when I post it is right except for the bold. I don't know what I did wrong but life goes on.

Okay- let me start with the beginning of the budget kerfluffle...
There has been a change in policy with financial aid where I couldn't use tuition waiver and financial aid. So I had to take out student loans. I was ok with that though, because I will be able to make payments while in school since I keep a tight financial profile. I have to pay for my alterations for my uniforms OOP but that was expected.
Then Saturday, all hell broke loose. My father died suddenly. He was making my car payment and paying my car insurance. I was using that money to pay my mother who paid for my several thousand dollars in dental work. He had the car. He has ruined the interior. Well, my brother was driving my father's car, which is totally unsafe to drive. My father only has 1 bill, and the total costs for his cremation are less than $7500. SOOOO, my brother is buying the car.
But it is going to make my budget very uncomfortable for the next several months while processing everything. My mom has said she will help me as much as she can, but I have a whole new resolve to not help family money-wise from now on. My budget is always ok until I start helping others. I had a perfectly good, paid for vehicle until I got bullied into buying a new one so I could haul my nieces around...
I know there is a very bright light at the end of this tunnel that is NOT an oncoming train, but I am just totally exhausted.
Rant over...

Rocky Mtn. Saver: 11 CSD/5 NSDMizbear, I'm a little confused. Is the car not something you need? If so, then it sounds like your brother buying it will surely help? Either way, virtual hugs to you right now!

Mom is no longer permitted to drive until further notice due to her stroke- so I am driving her car.
I only bought that car and got rid of my truck because I had my nieces all the time and was having to transport them everywhere because their parents were not taking responsibility for them.

Rocky- I guess I am just frustrated. I just wiped out my savings to help Mom when she got an unexpected bill due to an insurance change and had a stroke, so I was ill prepared. I have taken over Mom's bills, so that will help her.

Yeah, I had to get involved in my mom's finances a couple of years ago too. Mostly she just needed someone money-minded to make a game plan and offer better suggestions.

Update: 11 NSD and 4 CSD
Had a few spend days since my last update. Was out of town for about a week but limited spending was involved there. Today was a major spend as I that visited Sam's for my annual stock-up of paper and plastic supplies. Also got quite a few items I use for lunches since school will be starting again next week for me and I will be taking my lunch from home again.
Mizbear -- sorry to read of your recent loss. Glad your school will begin soon.
Glad to see all are progressing toward nsd goals even though it is tough to stay focused at times. I know that I still have several items to get within the next few weeks. I try to postpone some things and then reach the point where I have to get a lot at one time. That is what happened at Sam's today. I knew that I would have to get some of the items but keep postponing the trip until the needed items multiplied tenfold. At least I now have enough of those items to last several months and a few of them for the entire year. I am glad that I got that chore finished so that I can focus on the last few projects that I want to complete before I return to school.
Good night all!

Rocky Mtn. Saver: 15 CSD/6 NSD
The weekend was fairly quiet, spending-wise. I had a consultation on Friday for some semi-major dental work I need to have done, so that put out of my mind all thoughts of spending.

We had a pretty cheap vacation last week. My parents paid for the beach house (they just wanted us all to come as payment. amazing what grandkids can "buy"). We took the kids to the aquarium and lunch (total: $100) one day. And another day we spent $100 on food and wine for the night we cooked dinner for everyone. And... that was about it. Fantastic!
Mizbear -sorry about everything you are going through.

24/31 NSD
I was hoping this month would end better than it started, but it didn't. Saturday Leo, my four footed son, who walked in last February and decided to stay got very sick with a bladder infection. Luckily, my vet sold me some antibiotics without an exam when she remembered his behavior the last time he was there. Poor little guy he hasn't exactly had a charmed life--losing part of his ear to frostbite when he was a kitten then being trapped by a forest fire last summer before he was even a year old escaping with burned paws and singed fur and this summer a UTI! I found the perfect way to get his meds in him. I crush the pill to powder and stir it into a spoonful of turkey gravy which he devours before i can even get the turkey cat food into his bowl. He is much better after several days of turkey gravy (and antibiotics). All the rain we have had the last couple of weeks has cleared the dust and pollen from the air so his allergies have even subsided a bit.
I am ready for a new and uneventful month!

Things financially are looking better, but I still don't like how tight things got on paper. SO, I have talked to my Mom and we have decided that we are going to pay off her car early and just get one car in both names. She doesn't drive anyway. That way under the law here, we are both protected if something happens.
Of course, I am also trying to look at the bright side- I will be able to go back to work as long as school works out. I don't see why it won't.

An absolutely controlled spending August?
Abstaining from spending August?
No spend for me today. Still broke from July LOL

Started August with a visit from the electrician $$$$$$$$$$! Now to get a new microwave. This is not so bad, i have been wanting to get a convection/microwave oven so I would not have to heat up the big oven. I guess now is the time. What a way to start the month.
I did deep clean and inventory the pantry and freezer yesterday. A few minor additions and I am ready for the next six months--except for fresh stuff. Winter, bring it on!
How about Austere August ?!?! I know mine will be very austere now.
