What is the history on insugencies in the past? What did the Assyrians do about insugencies? For a time they were successful. The Romans successfully ended continuing insugencies by the Jews. How did Alexander subdue the area of afganistan? The Mongols also solved the probem of perpetual insurrection by muslims in their rear. The British were sucessful in puttiing down an insurection in the dutch parts of what would be South Africa but were unsuccessful in Afganistan. The British put down a nasty insurrection after WWII in Maylasia. The US Failed in Vietnam. The Soviet Union failed in Afganistan 1979-1989. Napoleon failed in Spain, Napoleon II failed in Mexico. The Germans failed to put down insurrection in Yugoslavia and in Russia during WWII. What is the answer? ya...this is a tough one

Speaking of that, where is the anti-war movement in this country that was so strong when Bush was president? They seem to have disappeared now that it's Obama's war...when was the last time you saw a mainstream media story about war protestors? I do not recall any significant protest against the invasion of Afghanistan during the Bush years. I personally marched against the invasion of Iraq prior to it taking place. I would like to see a more significant draw-down of troops in Iraq but honestly it is a difficult cause to take to the streets over. I would have liked for President Obama to have not increased the troop numbers in Afghanistan but I felt he did a great job of blunting any serious criticism by limiting the number and time for the additional troops to be there. I think that patience will be wearing thin by this summer if there is not a draw-down and you will start to see some street protests.

If they don't ask us to stay, I thought all troops had to be out of there, except security forces by this summer..possible I am wrong on that..talking about Iraq, we 50,000 troops there now.

According to this, there were big protests virtually every year since 2001, including ones in 2009 and 2010 after Obama took office. I'm not saying the protests aren't there, I'm saying since Obama took over, the media doesn't cover them anymore, as the prime directive for the media in this country since 2009 is to protect Barack Obama... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protests_against_the_War_in_Afghanistan_(2001%E2%80%93present)

The leading media outlet in the country being Fox..you got it, ed , they are really doing a great job protecting the POTUS, surprised the leadership in the House haven't called for hearings in this topic now that they are in control.

Here is a start: World Socialist Web Site wsws.org Published by the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI) No wonder I didn't remember them.
