The patient in Indiana, went home without much fanfare, and the hospital workers who were put out of work to see if they had been infected are all back to work. The hospital did their job professionally and correctly. No public rabble rousing.
Now, tell me how many people in the U.S.A. died from the flu last year, that came from across the globe? I am not trying to minimize this MERS outbreak, but right now it looks like it is treatable. Maybe it will metabolize to something more deadly, I do not know. I do know pneumonia or flu kills a heck of a lot more humans across the globe right now. There are vaccines for seasonal flues, which reduce the death toll. BIG DIFFERENCE!

GREAT POST Aham ... YES IT IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM and I would venture to say that population control is underway! : - ( To a degree I agree with you barb, especially when we are talking about the CPC. They have been trying to control their population for decades. Not to mention that lots of people living in the east are living in similar/worse conditions than 1918 North America. This is where I agree with VB 100%. The medical conditions in North America/Europe are top notch when compared to the East and we are nowhere near where we were in 1918 in this part of the world. Considering that we had barely discovered penicillin in 1918, the chances of that pandemic being some kind of population control are basically zero. Also consider the ACA. If population control was the goal, why make healthcare more accessible? I think it's easy to draw the conclusion that there is this grand scheme against everyone, the internet is full of "theory's". However, the common thing they all seem to ignore is that plagues have ravaged the human race since we were created, why? Nature goes out of balance. They all also seem to ignore how blessed we are living in the developed world. Why? Because they ignore that humans aren't in control of nature, God is. As Virgil put it, God knows who the tribes of Israel are. Off to make luch and get some more yard work done.

Greetings, Aham!
This must be the day for yard work. I just came in ... too hot to stay out there any longer.
Regarding the "issue" ... yes, lots on the net regarding the pros and cons of man-made-plagues; only time will tell. Hope you and VB are 100% correct and I am absolutely wrong. Baxter almost succeeded in 2009 and has gone underground since the discovery.
Speaking of Plagues, Not viral in nature...Appears Camels have been in the mix previously.
'The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt were not accustomed to receiving commands from others, particularly from such "lowly" people as Moses and Aaron. Their message came directly from The God Of Creation, but the Pharaoh was of no mind to listen. But then, the Pharaohs didn't believe in the True God - their "gods" were various idols, and such natural things as bulls and reptiles and the Nile River. They worshiped created things, rather than The Creator - perhaps the primary reason that God targeted a number of Egypt's "gods" directly with The Ten Plagues. Waters Turned To BloodThe First Plague (Exodus 7:14-24)
All of the water in Egypt - right from water already in buckets and jars, to ponds, canals, streams, even the Nile River - turned to blood. Then all of the fish of the river died, causing a terrible stench.
The Second Plague (Exodus 8:1-15) Frogs miraculously multiplied in number, so many that the land was infested with the normally aquatic creatures. Even people's houses had them inside.
The Third Plague (Exodus 8:16-19) Vast swarms of gnats tormented people and animals.
The Fourth Plague (Exodus 8:20-32) Vast swarms of flies through the land, spreading disease.
The Fifth Plague (Exodus 9:1-7) Disease on the livestock - horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, sheep and goats - but those of the Israelites were unharmed.
The Sixth Plague (Exodus 9:8-12) Festering boils on people and animals through the land.
The Seventh Plague (Exodus 9:13-35) Powerful hail storms that destroyed the standing crops. The hail stones were so big that any people or animals caught outside in the storm were killed.
The Eighth Plague (Exodus 10:1-20) Locusts in such great numbers that the ground was covered with them. They devoured everything that survived the hail storm.
The Ninth Plague (Exodus 10:21-29) Darkness over the entire land for three days - but the Israelites had light in Goshen.
The Tenth Plague (Exodus 11:1-10, 12:1-42) Death of the firstborn. The Passover. Pharaoh let the Israelites go. The Wilderness Journey began.
AND THE JOURNEY INTO THE WILDERNESS CONTINUES....

PS...Penicillin/antibiotics do not work against Viruses, but useful in infections that occur due to the impairment of the immune system by viruses.
Question: If population control was the goal, why make healthcare more accessible? AND THE ANSWER IS: To get ELECTED and RE-ELECTED! That said, I believe when the figures are all out/IN, if ever, more people lost their healthcare than was able to obtain it or able to afford it at the increased prices by the insurance companies. There is conversation on the net in both directions. Not to mention the healthcare paid for by the government via taxes, taxes, taxes and more taxes.
I HAD what was called -- at the time The Asia Flu H2N2 AND ALMOST DIED ... 3 of my friends did succumb to it, as in died ... so I guess I remember how bad it was and therefore very suspect and uneasy when new viruses begun to circulate and much of the world does not take the advertised threat seriously.
Later,
b

Sorry I didn't articulate the penicillin point well enough. What I meant is that medical science was basically an infant in 1918, bioengineering, a sci-fi pipe dream... Even since you were younger B, just think about how much more we know about things as simple as infections during hospital stays. The US already spends more on healthcare than any other developed nation. Not that I'm an Obam fan, but the idea was to make it so people couldn't skip out on the bill and leave others to pay. I understand your point about reelection though. Also, I don't think you are 100% wrong, not in the least.. As the bible quotes you posted pointed out, Gods work. The jihad is supposed to take us down, yet here we are golfing and playing baseball and in Lebanon medical costs mean Syria refugees untreatedWe are truly blessed. I wish I would have had time to post my natural selection thread this weekend, oh well, soon here I will get down to it. Bottom line our science is proving what some of us already know.

Well on one hand the man in Illinois ended up not contracting MERS from another person, thank God. However, at the same time, Saudi Arabia revises MERS numbers, 688 infections and 282 deaths confirmed , 6th MERS death recorded in Jordan, First MERS infections detected in Algeria, and Health Officials Confirm 4 MERS Infection Cases in Iran. Not to mention that just a week after the UAE said that their hospitals where free of MERS... In other words, it IS jumping from person to person a lot easier than the Saudis were first claiming. I've said it once, and I'll say it again. All this anti American, anti Zionism talk is coming around to bite the propaganda spreaders in the a$$.

MERS virus detected in air samples from Saudi camel barn
LONDON Tue Jul 22, 2014 12:05am EDT
The Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus is seen in an undated transmission electron micrograph from the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/22/us-health-mers-study-idUSKBN0FR08H20140722REUTERS/National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases/Handout via Reuters The Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus is seen in an undated transmission electron micrograph from the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). (Reuters) - Saudi scientists have found gene fragments of the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus in air from a barn housing an infected camel and say this suggests the disease may be transmitted through the air.MERS, a serious respiratory illness caused by a virus known as a coronavirus (CoV), has infected at least 850 people since it first emerged two years ago and killed at least 327 of them, according to latest figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The vast majority of human cases have been in Saudi Arabia, but isolated MERS cases have been reported across Europe and in Asia and the United States in people linked who have recently traveled in the Middle East. Scientists are not sure of the origin of the virus, but several studies have linked it to camels and some experts think it is being passed to humans through close physical contact or through the consumption of camel meat or camel milk. However, in this latest study, published in the online journal of the American Society for Microbiology mBio, scientists said the detection of the virus in air samples was concerning and needed to be followed up. "The clear message here is that detection of airborne MERS-CoV molecules, which were 100 percent identical with the viral genomic sequence detected from a camel actively shedding the virus in the same barn on the same day, warrants further investigations and measures to prevent possible airborne transmission of this deadly virus," said Esam Azhar, an associate professor of medical virology at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah who led the study.Viruses that spread through air - such as flu viruses for example - are far more likely to spread swiftly and widely in human populations than those that can only move from an animal to a person, or from person to person, via direct contact. For their research, Azhar's team collected three air samples on three consecutive days from a camel barn near Jeddah owned by a 43-year-old male MERS patient who later died from the disease. Four of the man's nine camels had shown signs of nasal discharge the week before the patient became ill, and he had applied a topical medicine in the nose of one of the sick camels a week before experiencing symptoms. Using a laboratory technique called reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect levels of particular genes, the scientists found that the first air sample, collected on Nov. 7, 2013, contained genetic fragments of the MERS virus. This was the same day that one of the patient's camels tested positive for the disease, they explained in a report of their work. The other samples did not test positive for the MERS virus - suggesting short or intermittent shedding of the virus into the air surrounding the camels, Azhar said. Further tests of the first air sample confirmed the presence of MERS genetic sequences and showed that the fragments were identical to fragments detected in the camel and its sick owner. "This study also underscores the importance of obtaining a detailed clinical history with particular emphasis on any animal exposure for any MERS case, especially because recent reports suggest higher risk of (MERS) infections among people working with camels," Azhar said. The World Health Organisation and the Saudi Health Ministry have advised camel farm and slaughterhouse workers to take precautions against MERS by ensuring good hygiene, including frequent hand washing after touching animals, facial protection where feasible, and wearing of protective clothing.

Not to worry Aham! I haven't worked since May 23 and have so much to do to get back on track -- just about the time I return to semi-normal I will have to go back in to have the metal holding the bone/my arm together .... REMOVED! I haven't been reading the news so don't know what is in GERM WARFARE TO REPORT!

Barb, Glad to see you back into action. Hope everything works out OK. our prayers are always with you, barb. The germ front? MERS is apparently airborne which has lead Hong Kong to be on the look out. Ebola- like we were talking about months ago- has become the worst outbreak in its recorded history. In other words, sucks to live on that big price of land that is the eastern part of the world.

Barb, Glad to see you back into action. Hope everything works out OK. THANKS TY ... it's going to be another couple months before LIFE is back to normal.
I fell down the stairs and broke my left Humerus, actually it was shuttered and in pieces where it broke and had to have it "repaired" with lots of pins and wires ... It's been the most painful broken bone of my lifetime -- and I have had a few. I also sustained a concussion that makes it difficult to FUNCTION at a hundred percent!
Stay well!
