Well, got most of my chores for tonight done (last load of laundry in the dryer), so I have a few minutes to send this one out to the EE'ers and ask about it. I received a card from ex-family (brother's first wife), signed by her, her third husband (whom I do not know), her youngest daughter and fiance (who have not lived with or anywhere near her in several years), and her oldest daughter, her husband and their unborn child. Yes, the unborn has a name, and the card is signed with it. I think the creepy part is signing it with the unborn's name. The strange part is that the daughters sent their own cards ages ago, but that's another story. Just wondered...do the moms-and-dads-to-be on the board do that kind of thing normally?

Until my kids were hatched, their names didn't get signed on anything. I think putting an unborn kid's name on something is just inviting bad karma.........

And I agree with Swamp - I'm not really superstitious, but that sounds like it's just inviting bad luck.

That's pretty darn high in my book when you're already sending out Christmas cards with the unborn baby's name on it! Personally I just wouldn't push my luck!

Oh, good...I thought it was just me. And BTW, she got a &^*!load of gifts at her shower. And was actually disappointed with people who dared to give her gift cards instead of the stupidly expensive stuff she registered for.
No doubt there will be an elaborately announced christening...another gift scam. And, oh, another thing...they are mortgage walkaways. Seems their house is worth less that it should be, so they are not happy with that. I think they were planning to move in with her mom, except that mama is planning to declare bankruptcy.
I agree with the bad luck thing. I am of Russian descent, and there is a tradition in some Russian cultures not to discuss the gender or due date or name of an unborn child, because it's considered bad luck.

Not only do I think it is weird to put an unborn baby's name on a card....I find it weird that she is signing her adult children's names too! Once they move out of the house...they are on their own for cards. Parents shouldn't be signing their names.
We had one in our family that did that with the adult children...even after she & her hubby had kids....signed them all.

I don't buy the bad luck because I don't believe there is such as thing as bad luck or inviting it. Maybe she's just really excited over expecting what sounds like their first child, I doubt I'd think much of it.
But then I sign my dog's name to my Christmas cards and if someone doesn't like that, that's their problem, not mine.

My husband and his ex-wife were told they were having a boy....ooops. Their boy ended up being a beautiful baby girl who is 16 now *sniffle sniffle*
As for the card, it is weird, but then again, I am like TD and sign my dog's name to Christmas cards (when I remember to send them....)

I find it odd that the grandmother is signing the unborn baby's name to the card. Actually, I find it strange that the grandmother is signing adult children that don't live with her to the card.
I wouldn't find it odd to get a card signed from the parents to be with the baby's name. Parents to be are a weird breed all around.

Especially if it's their fist time around. It's almost like it's never happened to anyone before. Then comes the greed. Now they register for the gifts they want and expect people to buy for their new addition. And it's always top-shelf mdse., clothes & furniture that they say they 'need'. Whatever happened to baby showers where they gave clothing, bottles, toys, etc. Now back to names: I prefer the traditional names - people are getting more bizarre in the choices they make when naming their kids. I think it all started with Frank Zappa naming his kids Moon Unit and Dweezil . Then there's MJ naming his kid Blanket. the list goes on.............

Hey, I got a Christmas card from the car dealer that we bought out car from. Turns out that not only do they want to wish me a merry Christmas but they are also "giving" new cars away. I may go there tomorrow & see if there is a limit on how many I can have.

LOL. I get those cards saying there is a high demand for the very car I just happen to have and I could get a great trade-in value. Yeah, right.

O I can top your card! We got one from friends who took their little girl to Disney this summer. The card had multiple photos (a collage I guess), mostly from the trip, very cute ones of the little girl and a few with mom and dad. THEN, we see the one photo is of their ultrasound! Yes, they put their unborn baby's picture on their Christmas card! The card was also signed with the names of mom, dad, daughter and baby.

I guess I'm a little strange then. We signed DD's name on cards before she was born. We had her named. Everyone talked about her by name. It felt like she was already part of the family.

But...but...if you insist that's the case, I will have to report you to the working mom/SAHM/daycare thread that was running on YM, and they will beat you with a wet bank statement.

Just wondered...do the moms-and-dads-to-be on the board do that kind of thing normally? We didn't, but then I was only 8 weeks pregnant at the time, didn't even know if it would stick let alone her gender. I find that about as weird as I do people signing thier pets' names to cards. Why are your pets sending me a Christmas card? We got a ton of picture cards this year. One I didn't even know who they were and neither did DH, took him a minute to realize it was his cousin who we have not seen since her wedding 4 years ago. Then we got one from my SIL. I found that kinda of weird because we see them practically every week, why do I want a photo of you guys?

For the same reason a 6 month old does?
