OK. I am more than aware that some of you are able to smite now and again. i don't know why or how, but i can see who is doing the smiting, and WHO is being smited. i am tired of getting PMs from people complaining about it and if this doesn't stop i will disable all of it so no one can exalt OR smite.
are we clear? don't let your disagreements ruin it for everyone, please.

My fellow board members, It is unbelievable that moonbeam has to deal with this garbage behavior. Grow up before she tosses us all out onto the street.

I need all the karma I can get.
Moonbeam-is it possible the 'smite' button could be programmed to wipe out the hard drive of offending computers for anyone that pushes it or should I put this request on the wish list.
Thanks!

Well, I don't have a smite button. I occasionally exalt. That's it.

Tenn better yet , I was going for possible impotency but on second thought , as realizing the ones abusing the function might be gender neutral, meaning both genders are guilty, how about killing the sex drive for say 30 days for the first offense..any thing after that..you go to it gal..what ever you want to set up.

Why not just make it a bannable offense? One warning ban, second time for life?

snerdley, please refer to your own question on the karma and exalt thread here: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1021&page=1#107545, and my response to it directly after. to further re-iterate, *some* people claim to occasionally see a smite link. more likely is that people are using a back door - a script- to smite those they don't like. believe it or not, some people must actually view their karma level as some measure of popularity and when people start taking it away from them, i have to hear about it. i don't WANT to hear about it any more.

I think the karma smite thing is rather juvenile.

I think Karmas are fun. Yesterday I had fun exalting people I don't get along with, just for fun. Smites would also be fun. How come some people have that, and some don't?

sigh... because they're probably using a script to do it
snerd, when YOU have to listen to all the whining about 'why is my karma -256?' then YOU can say it would be "fun".. got it?
people abuse both of them .. i see one person with a large amount of karma, and it's certainly not because that person is well liked by a lot of people. it's because ONE person exalted that person every hour on the hour. they do the same with smiting when the link is available. that's why it's gone.

not saying you should was time on it..but if one was abusing the function..possible a warning that they would be outed to the group or if continue a small vacation...I like useing it when some one goes above and beyond in their posts...bringing up a unique thought...something beyond the norm here....and whe you see one or two that are just stupid in the #'s...it loses the clout...though just ignore those as far as noticing , works too.

I think a smite is what happens when you stumble in at 2am smelling of alcohol & there is lipstick on you face. Just about the time you focus on your wife's face.............SMITE!!!!!

dezi was trying to say he exalts people for those unique thoughts... and conversely, would smite those who act like buttheads.

I am not one of the ones smiting people, but I find it a little childish to hear that people are actually complaining about it since it has no real consequence.

like i said. we tried it. it was NOT fun for me, listening to people complain because they ended up with extremely negative karma. and when YOU are the one having to listen to it then YOU may make that decision.

it's like this snerdley. say you have 5 karma points. and then you make a post that is (for whatever reason) VERY unpopular .. and 10 people smite you for it.. you now have -5 karma because just as exalting adds 1 point, smiting takes one away.
now attach the gang mentality to the equation. 1 person disliked by 30 people, who can all smite once an hour and well.. you see how people can end up very far in the hole, very quickly?

I guess I just don't understand people. I simply can't grasp this third-grade mentality of actually caring about something so silly, but it appears some do.

i agree mad dawg... but, as you said, some do...
i will ask people to go to the general board, karma and exalt thread... someone has posted a way for ALL to see both exalt and smite.. and i may be putting up a poll there at some point.

When the grandchildren are visiting and you get worn out by their incessant chatter, giving them about 200 pieces of[glow=red,2,300]sugery sweet bubble gum[/glow]helps silence them. Just sayin'

Honestly, who cares? Crowd popularity is no sign of character or correctness. The most brilliant people usually are despised during their day. Look at Van Gogh, he sold one painting in his lifetime, and his whole family were art dealers! Seriously? If so, he really must have p them off, not even pushing his art for post cards...if can't help out a cousin what good are they.{tsk, tsk, for shame} Nothing to do with the "Smites Wars {phew} but on Vincent, actually Theo, his brother, a art dealer, very suppotive, close , was with him after he shot himself in the chest, he, Vincent, did not die immediatly, walked to a friends and his brothr, Theo, was with him when he passed, and , Theo, died with in six months of Vincents death and was reburied later with him. -------------------------------------------------------------- Theo was a life-long supporter and friend to his brother. The two are buried together at Auvers-sur-Oise.[4]The most comprehensive primary source for the understanding of Van Gogh as an artist is the collection of letters which were passed between him and his younger brother, the art dealer Theo van Gogh.[5] They lay the foundation for most of what is known about the thoughts and beliefs of the artist.[6][7] Theo continually provided his brother with both financial and emotional support. Their lifelong friendship, and most of what is known of Van Gogh's thoughts and theories of art, is recorded in the hundreds of letters they exchanged from August 1872 until 1890. Most were written by Vincent to Theo beginning in the summer of 1872. More than 600 letters from Vincent to Theo and 40 from Theo to Vincent survive today and although many are undated, art historians have been able to largely arrange the correspondences chronologically. Any adult that needs to see a number indicating if he/she is liked should stop and take stock of themselves. The person(s) who are fiddling around with the smite option should also do the same thing.

I've always admired Theo Van Gogh. The friendship between the brothers is one of life's great love-stories. I am glad you mentioned it..in googling read a couple of articles. learned a lot, had no idea of his life, brother just his death and familier with some of his paintings, have seen a few in person , Athenium in Hartford I remember..Monet is ny favorite and saw a hugh collection in New york 60 years ago..never knew he painted HUGH paintings and the crowds were 5 deep. LOL Took my daughter and so crowded after a while we disappeared down stairs they had a collection of first ladies dresses ..can't remember if ignaugeration ball gowns or just every day but she loved that..females LOL
