Yes, I'll verify I believe paul's prejudice to be bigotry. It's of no consequence to me what others might believe it to be. Each has a right to his/her own opinion and none are subject to my edicts regarding what they SHOULD think. I, however, am responsible to myself. I'm not responsible to you, Virgil, or to paul, or to anyone else; nor, for that matter, is anyone responsible to me. As I've said before: Different strokes for different folks.

Paul's posts often reek of bigotry. He is just better than some others in masking it.
Paul's bigotry is often the real 800 pound gorilla in the room or even in Cleveland.

We are all bigots, in our own way. I don't understand why people would deny that!?!?
Maybe Ms. mmhmm and Mr. Tenn are over compensating and have some sort of guilt feelings (generational thing and both from the south...I see a pattern here) Maybe not...and I love the South. Paul is an attention seeker, I wouldn’t worry about him.
I'm color blind, that helps...I hate organized religion, that helps...I hate people who judge people on ethnic differences...that helps (but I often do it myself...I'm just starting to respect the Bulgarians again). I hate people who have power and trample on those who are minions; mostly, I don't like people who think they are always right and not willing to learn and compromise.
This is not a paid political advertisement...BTW Mr. Tenn, I’ve just noticed, your glass isslightly more that half full…that is a good thing.
Enjoy your weekend folks.

LOL! I'm not from the south, Robert. I'm originally from the west, but I've lived all over the world. I just happen to live in the south now.
I, too, am color blind when it comes to people, but I don't hate anybody. It's not worth my time. If someone comes into my life who represents something that unnerves me, I avoid that person completely. I've better things to do than mess with that sort of thing. No guilt feelings here. Not my problem.

It seems like we have effectively chased Paul out of his own thread.
I haven't given enough thought to where the line between "person who said/did a bigoted thing" and "person who is a bigot" is. The latter is a pretty powerful label. The former is a pretty common occurrence.
But I think part of the distinction probably lies in intent and empathy. I would expect that most people wouldn't want to be considered bigoted. And the response to such an accusation would be along the lines of "you misunderstood my intent, let me try to say it differently" or "that's not something I want people to think about me, help me understand why you would say that" or "I hadn't thought about it that way, I apologize"
Where it gets a little more murky is when people double down on their offensive statements with "I don't care what you think" or "it's not my fault those people are like that" or "and you're being intolerant towards me, now who's the bigot?"

If you care about illegal immigrant issues in this country and want to discuss the topic you can't do that in any meaningful way unless you talk about Hispanics. Some who dont want meaningful conversation on the topic of illegal immigration shout 'bigot' to stop the conversation. They might say they are open to conversation, but when it disagrees with what they believe they resort to name calling or personal insults. You can look at some of the comments in this thread for examples. except that you can't have a meaningful conversation about illegal immigration without also talking about all the other groups that come in illegally. oh, and acknowledging that the majority of Hispanic people in this country are either citizens or here legally. call that FACT whatever you like. that's what so many of us have said in this thread.

Are you suggesting that most of the people who complain about illegal Hispanic immigrants are okay with other illegal immigrants? If you are talkiing about people who come here illegally, then it makes a bit of sense to not mention those that come here legally. They're not what is being discussed. If we are discussing up, would you complain that no one is mentioning down? My opinion on immigration, for the record, is that I think it drives down wages in construction, (so kind of bad for me personally) but overall is a good thing. If it were up to me, the country would have pretty close to open borders. People who wanted to come here to work or be with their family here would be welcome. I'm suggesting that it certainly appears that way. as far as up vs down, when someone rails on and on about illegal Hispanics and doesn't ever acknowledge that not all Hispanics are illegals, then yes. it is absolutely appropriate to discuss.

I am sure Paul has read all of this and is enjoying the attention. After all, "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."
