I've put chili over pasta but have never made it with those 2 ingredients.

Mexican mole sauces do contain chocolate or cocoa. So maybe it's a chili using mole sauce.

Oh, yeah! I went to school there and worked there for 3 years after graduation. I always got the full treatment including the chopped raw onions and the oyster crackers.
You can buy a mix for it on-line; we keep a stash of it and like to serve it to guests, especially our priest and his wife, since she's from Cincinnati.
There's a Gold Star Chili in Cincinnati Airport if you're passing through.

I think it's one of those things you either love or hate. I grew up about 45 minutes from Cincy but have always thought Skyline/Gold Star chili was disgusting! Other people swear it's the best in the world. An acquired taste, I guess.
I do love chili over spaghetti!

I don't live too far from Cincinnati, so they sell it around here.
It's good. It's not what I think of as "chili" but it's good.

Cinnamon and unsweetened chocolate is surprisingly good in dishes flavored with chili or other spicy ingredients.

Both times I had Cincinnati chili, I thought the texture was reminiscent of diarrhea. It was runny and gritty. Once I made the association, I couldn't even tell you if I liked the flavor, because I just couldn't get over the texture. I did like the idea of chili going on top of spaghetti!
These were two different recipes by two different people both from Cincinnati. I would be open to trying a third recipe, but if that is how it is suppose to be, I'm afraid I will never be a fan.

We ate at Skyline Chili in Cincinatti. It's popularity apparantly spawned imitators.
I think I tried the "Three Way".
It was ok, one of those things you try once. I guess if you grow up eating that, you'd crave it.
I'm glad I tried it, but next time I'm in Cincy, I'll try something else.

I love Cincinnati chili, but it's an acquired taste, I think. DH is from Ohio. And Skyline chili is available frozen in a number of major grocery chains. I like it over pasta with the works, plus some antacids on the side. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/wink2.gif)

I made it last year for a potluck we were going to. It was great. I thought the chocolate was strange too, but you can't taste it. It just smooths out the heat. Layers of flavor I guess you'd call it.

We have made it from recipes online, using the cinnamon and chocolate powder. To me it is very similar to making spaghetti with meat sauce, but the sauce has a different flavor. The taste was quite good, and all my kids liked it (hard to find anything in this category), so we put it on our occasional dinner list.

I love tater tots. Tater tots covered in cream of crap soup, eh, not so much.
And for the record, I rarely eat tater tots because they are so bad for you.

You can buy a mix for it on-line; we keep a stash of it and like to serve it to guests, especially our priest and his wife, since she's from Cincinnati. There's a Gold Star Chili in Cincinnati Airport if you're passing through. I found some on Amazon. The product description says not to brown the hamburger first. Strange. "Cincinnati Chili Preparing Directions: This chili has magical powers. It can get you past a bad break up or improve your productivity at work. However, in order to unleash the magic you must use the following recipe. It also makes the best batch of chili you'll ever eat. * 1 package of chili * 6 cups of water * 1 small can of tomato paste * 1.5 lbs of thawed lean ground beef * 1 bag of oyster crackers * 1 bag or brick of Tillamook mild cheddar cheese * 1 white onionThe trick to making great chili is cooking time and temperature coupled with the consistency of the ground beef.In a large pot add 6 cups of water. Add 1 small can of tomato paste and the chili powder. Wash your hands, because you are going to be putting them in the pot.Now add the ground beef into the mixture, but shred it as finely as you can while it's in the water. You want as thin a consistency as possible. This is why it's important that the meat be thawed. Do not brown the meat!Next turn on the heat, beat mixture with a fork, and let boil for 1 minute. Thenreduce to a rolling simmer. Let it simmer like this uncovered for about 45 minutes. Stirring occasionally. Use a wooden spoon for best results. After about 45 minutes turn the heat down to a light simmer for another 20 minutes. You can tell it's ready for the heat reduction when you stir and the chili starts to bubble out of the pot. After the 20 minutes remove the pot from the stove. Let is stand for 10 minutes. You don't want it too hot, because you don't want the cheese to melt into it." I'm intrigued. I'll probably give this a try. That is exactly how every recipe for chili I have ever seen said to do it. I will say I mean chili as in Texas chili not a vegatarian stew with chili spices. Not saying vegatarian recipes are all bad either. I was a vegatarian for 16 years. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

I was watching an episode of the Duggars the other day, and they were eating "Cincinnati chili". It looked interesting (they put the chili over spaghetti and then topped it with cheese) so I went online to find a recipe and saw that 2 of the ingredients in the chili are cinnamon and unsweetened cocoa. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) That seems so weird. Does anyone here eat this? I put cinnamon in my regular chili. I got the idea after tasting a few examples at a chili competition. The flavor goes very well with chili if you don't overdo it. I've been meaning to try adding some cocoa as well. That being said, the term "Cincinnati Chili" sounds like something vile and nasty, like a Cleveland Steamer.
